Being that Mother's Day is tomorrow, the piece was obviously done as to highlight the relationship between McCain and his mother. Being that you refer to Katie Couric as "the reporter", I'd take it that you don't watch the news all that often. If you did, you'd A). know who she is, and B). know that she is known for her personable yet persistent interviewing style.
