Jim Carroll would have been McCartney and Lennon's poet of choice. He is a torched scalpel that tears through soul and sinew with precision. He is a razor to your psyche and your conscious...he grabs your balls and begs you pay extreme attention. He is THE most under-rated American literary genius. His writings are beyond all comprehension- they are sublime.
Got this on vinyl when i was 14 and met Jim when i was 16 he drew me a picture of a guy with an arrowhead on a paper plate and told me it was a flashback he had @ Patty Smith,i hung it on my wall for years .Jim encouraged me in many ways one when i kicked heroin i thought of his time in Rikers i was in another jail 3 thousand miles away but i knew if any of my idols could do it then i was in good company,GREAT SONG.
I had this album when in high school. It didn't come with a lyric sheet and I can remember spending an entire afternoon writing out the lyrics to every song. I miss you Jim!
@metallicatt316 You and me, both, and I have every album he did. I saw Jim Carroll live at the Whiskey in Hollywood, in 1980; I was transformed. He put his poetry to music to make it more accessable. If you haven't heard him do a reading, you are missing out. I tell everyone: even if you have seen the film,'Basketball Diaries' read his book. It's Jim writing about Jim. Only after will you get who he was. We lost him way to early. I will mourn him til I die.
Awesome!! I bought Dry Dreams first on cassette and wore it out!! Then Catholic Boy!! I'm now trying to get everything on CD or mp3. Forced Entries is my fave book, I read it at least twice a year. But I love Living at the Movies and Void of Course. I don't have Book of Nods as of yet, but hope to add it to my J.M. collection soon. Basketball Diaries is incredible as well. Thanx for the upload!! It is much appreciated!! God bless ya Jim, May the angels carress you and God seat you by his side.
I stumbled onto catholic boy when it was released due to jim's links with lou reed.....catholic boy is still a fave album of mine, basketball diaries is still one of my fave reads...thanks for those jim...rip
Saw TJCB perform at the old Country Club in Reseda, CA in 82. Band was hanging out before the show in the parking lot, so I introduced myself (helped that I just move out from the upper westside of Manhattan) and was invited to hang out and and kill time. Shared stories about growing up in the city. Jim couldn't have been kinder or cooler. RIP
great to see and hear all these great songs by JC band.A day at the races next

Thanks! I know it's trite, but I'll say it: this is an "underrated" song. Carroll's inflection & attitude are outstanding.
