  • What is he playing ?Would love to hear it in better quality.

  • shit..!!! i dnt like Mr Rudess...

    i jst Love him ♥♥♥

  • nice, but it would be nicer see his hands playing

  • amazing,beautiful music.

  • The Gates of Delirium <3333333

  • Sooooooon!

    Ohh sooooonn!

  • soon, supper's ready, entangled,i talk to the wind, and you and i.... I Think

  • @volandinho555 that sounds right, although it was hard to decipher if it was entangled in the middle

  • A flurry of notes doesn't make something emotional. Even Bach would tell him to slow down more. JR is one of the most proficient players out there and he is capable of emotion to the core level. He just likes to add a flurry of notes to just about everything he plays and after a while that gets a bit boring to listen to.

  • @chrisklecker I don't think it's just the "flurry of notes," but the way he uses them. It's effective most of the time, I feel. It's his actual "Keyboard Solos" that are just nothing but masturbation; which are the ones I find boring.

  • Supper's ready!!!

  • And the first excerpt he played was again by the band "Yes", the album is "Relayer" and the track is the first on the album "The Gates of Delirium", he played a theme from the last movement "Soon".

"Soon, O soon the light. Pass within and soothe this endless night".

  • Now hear the full thing: The band is "Yes", the album is "Close to the Edge" and the track is "And You and I".

  • Stunning. Simply beautiful.

  • For those who feel Jordan plays with no emotion I'd ask you to consider the composition of pieces he's created himself, as well as the beauty of improvisation he's able to muster.

The only way to create such diverse, emotional pieces of music is to exude and express emotion, otherwise the creativity could not flow as it does from this master's heart, soul and fingers.

I ask you to consider this video as an example of his genius and if you still can't find emotion then you are simply lacking it.

  • y yo le di la mano a este genio!

  • Prefer Rick but very impressive

  • @Walletofmoths Rick strikes a greater depth alright. When he plays moody pieces like this it's evident he's feeling every note.

  • Soon (Yes), Supper's ready, Entangled (Genesis), I talk to the wind (King Crimson), And you and I (Yes)

  • Have you guys realized that he started off and ended with two glorious finales by Yes ? I think he tried to show the importance of the greatest Progressive Rock band ever during such a meaningful evening for Prog Rock.

  • @Delgift - You said it perfectly.

  • @CecilWard Thanks! Nice to know someone understood the meaning of my message. = )

  • ``Coming quickly to terms of all expression made´´.

  • ``Soon, oh soon the light...´´

  • sin palabras... solo Mi idolo!!!

  • it's Soon (from Yes Relayer Album), then Supper's Ready, (From Genesis Foxtrot Album), then I talk to the Wind (from King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King) and And You And I (from Yes Close to The edge). It's similar to the medley presented in his album of that year The Road Home.

  • there's also Entangled (from Genesis) between Supper's Ready and King Crimson

  • I know the first song is Soon by Yes from the album Relayer. Beginning at 6:16, Rudess is playing an excerpt from And You and I from Yes' Close to the Edge album.

  • i want to live next door to jordan rudess

  • One of the greatest keyboardists of all time paying respect to his Gods. His fingers struggle to slow down but, he is just that damn good that he can play music at 25 notes a second....

  • I believe he can go even faster than that. He can get the whole chromatic scale in five seconds; so 88 keys / 5 seconds = 17.6 keys per second. So yes, he damn owns every keyboardist's ass out there.

  • BUT THAT'S SLOWER LOL.

  • I was talking abut his average speed lol.

  • WHAT ARE YOU TALKIN' ABOUT LOL?

  • I'm talking about Rudess's speed. He averages at 20 something notes per second, and he gets 17.6 notes per second when running down the chromatic scale.

    LOL.

WHY ARE ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS WRITTEN IN CAPS LOL?

  • Calm down dude, no need to get mad at the guy.

  • I'm not mad at all. I'm very calm.

    Woosah.

  • Comment removed

  • Then how does he get the whole chromatic scale in 5 seconds? Search YouTube for 'jordan rudess tearing it up'

  • he uses 3 fingers that why

    not one

  • cant seem to find such a video,

    plz post the link ....

a chromatic scale by 3 fingers will be interesting, in 5 seconds eh?

    7 octaves

  • watch?v=AX5f9k1cvec

  • thanks a lot ...

    seems amazing vry much!!!

    rudess the godman

  • @brio0909 is that even possable

  • check in my favourites ....

    or search

    rudess tearing it up...

  • @brio0909 damn man.... wizardry

  • indeed ridiculous, but have u checked out the forementioned video?

  • Jordan Rudess not just every living being on Earth. Do you realise that? =)

  • Jordan Rudess

    a gift from Gods balls!!!!

  • This guy has single-handedly made me love piano.

Literally brings tears to my eyes to hear this.

  • Absolutely breathtaking...

  • Emotion revealed...

  • Jordan Rudess is a god. With him, it isn't just the fact that he can play fast, but that he puts his heart and soul into his work, and solos.

    Long live Dream Theater

  • Awesome catch Winkler! Jordan's actually my neighbor, I'm going to ask him if we missed anything!

  • whaaaaaattt you lucky fucking bastard!!!!!

  • He's my neighbor also.

  • and mine... :P

  • I hear "Soon" from Gates of Delirium, "Lover's Leap" from Supper's Ready, "For Absent Friends" and "Entangled" also by Genesis in there. I don't know what piece is between Entangled and And You and I.

  • I Talk to the Wind, from King Crimson's first album In the Court of the Crimson King.

    Rudess rules!!!!

  • soon by YES

  • He also play the song - for absent friends from genesis

    ^^

  • in response to songs played:

I hear Supper's Ready- Genesis, as he starts out. He might be weaving others I don't recognize throughout, but he keeps coming back to it in the 1st 6 mins. After that he plays And You And I- Yes to the end. Like I said there might be others, but I couldn't pick em out.

  • can anyone please make a list of all the songs he's playing?

    thanks

  • does Rudess have a perfect listening pitch?

  • satrnemt you are so fuckin right man J.R. is THE man!! he plays such sensoul things i saw him live on his first DT tour back in ´99 it was just the best show i´ve ever been to.. he is such a god like every musician from DREAM TEHATER!

  • Listen to liquid tension experiment ;)

  • Jordan Rudess is an amazing musician, and anyone who feels that he is technical only or does not play with emotion.....you are truly missing the boat. He has achieved musically what most of us in this world could only ever hope to achieve. I challenge anyone who criticizes him to play anything as well as he. Play with the dynamics, the feeling, the speed, the raw emotion in his playing......knocks me off my feet. He makes me want to practice and quit... all in the same instant.

  • THIS isn't the most impressive i've heard.

Some of the stuff i've heard from him.. is GODLY. Check out other stuff!

  • i cant tell if hes playing a rd 700gx or 700sx...lol, anyone?

  • rd700 sx

  • I think this guy is wonderful. He has an astounding mind to be able to improv like that. It's a rare, rare gift & he's a great artist. Thanks for sharing this video! :)

  • I have a lot of respect for Rudess, but I can't help but notice the melodies (especially in the Yes parts) get lost in all the trills and arpeggios and whatnot.

  • Surely lots of ornaments...but it is not his point to be strict on notes here. The fact is we all know these themes so well. And he knows we know. So he invites our memory just to play with these tunes once again...

  • I am willing to bet 90% the people bashing this man for being too "technical", have only heard his work with Dream Theater. Try listening to some of his solo work, like: "Resonance" or "4NYC", then come back here and say there is no emotion in his music.

  • This is amazing! It makes me cry, this man is impossible. I wished I could do it like him...

  • Who cares, mate?

Ppl play by following their heart.

Of course that Kevin is a great keyboardist. So is Jordan, so, listen to the music and settle down.

  • Kevin Moore had a really nice sense of good melody lines.

Jordan Rudess is probably one of the technically best players ever; However lately I felt it's been all to much about speed and hitting as many keys per second as possible, I liked his kurzweil era alot more.

  • Kevin Moore was more musical... jordan is more technical, and Derek straight forward a rock maniac

Besides, Jordan's entrance to DT was followed by a change in their style, more heavy...

If you pay attention to Liquid tension albums you'll see all of Jordan's musicallity

  • I don't think anyones giving jordan enough credit, he is so far off anyones knowledge of music, you can't even tell where the melody is. Its definitely there but its so quick. He is like the john coltrane of our time, just listen to giant steps, its far more than anything anyone could grasp. It is kind of what jordan does. Kevin moore left the band so that was his fault for being a fag plus ok he was good but definitely not as musical as jordan. I also agree with the liquid tension comment.

  • you cant say that of kevin moore, 2 of the best-musical and top rated albums (images and words and awake) were with him on keyboards. yes, we all know that jordan can play 10 times faster, even using a weighted keyboard. but you cant say kevin moore is a bad keyboardist. you just cant.

  • Anyway he's not saying that Moore is a bad keyboardist.

I actually prefer the DT rudess era more than the moore era. It's more a matter of taste. Some like Moore, some like rudess. In my case, I really prefer Rudess

  • thats cuz rudess is simply more talented

  • that a tear to my eye! just fantastic!

  • it brought a tear to my eye too. i agree, he is insane

  • The best part in this vid, is in the end. When you see Jordan's smile :) Music shares feelings :)

  • Funny how people purposely ignore the beauty of Jordan's playing just to hold on to a fantasy that their "hero" Rick Wakeman is above anyone else. It's music people, listen to it, enjoy it, cry to it, laugh to it, smile to it, think to it, sleep to it.

    DON'T FIGHT OVER IT

  • He is great, but hes very influenced by Wakeman, all the fast downwards arpeggios etc...

  • Amazing...

  • he is a wizard.

  • Roland RD-700SX - Great gear :)

  • somebody kill that guy yelling

  • Damn, he makes "And You and I" sound so much more beautiful! If only he could record the whole song instead of being in a medley...I'd die happy!

  • I love this man.

  • BEST keyboard player on the world!!!

  • at 2:23 it looks like sasquatch came to watch the show

  • no, no, you are definetly wrong. it was chewbacca. came to see c3-po playing keyboard. lol

  • Rudess is a genius not only can he play keyboards reall well but also the entire piano he is a Julliard's graduate!!!and he is so original and just simply a genius I play guitars and you know I never get bored when I hear jordan so many of his things i can relate to when even soling on guitar or trying to make something nice!!He is great!

  • ok that dude that said leung was better no your a fucking liar i play keyboards i look at alot of keyboard pieces jordan rudess composes his own shit he doesnt play video game music Rudess is Thee best piano player on earth anyone that says other wise does not know Mr.Rudess and that isnt an opinion Rudess can play anything

  • Well, Martin is a full time college student let alone be on a world tour with vgl, so I don't think he really has time to sit down and compose music. Oh yes, and you don't have to be so nasty. I do look up to both Jordan and Martin. So it's all good.

  • Everyone has the time to sit down and compose music. EVERYONE, except soldiers in a war zone

  • rudess is a soilder havent you seen the beard

  • rudess is married with a daughter and his beard is awesome so get lost

  • An incredibly talented man, he played some great songs and i love what he does with them. hes playing excerpts from supper's ready (genesis), the gates of delirium (yes), i think there's something by rick wakeman solo as well, and then there's and you and i (yes). This is one of the most beautiful piano performances I have seen. He's great at picking up a tune, and do what he wants with it. *applauds*

  • Not his best work, but in fact, in my Opinion he's the best Keyboarder ever.. I've seen him one time live at a Dream Theater Concert, and It was just great, exspecialy, because he used his Zen Riffer

  • I don't think he is gay. In fact, I think he is married

  • maybe Rudess really didn't show off pretty much in this live..,but.,i've seen other Rudess' lives.,,and i could tell.,.HE'S THE BEST KEYBOARDIST EVER TO LIVE ON EARTH!!!

  • You muss see the Real best one Keyboardist in the Rock´s Histotry, RICK WAKEMAN.

  • yeah,. i know that guy, freakin' Jordan..

he said himself Rick was better than him.

    but i could tell,.Rudess a better today..

    just listen to time crunch.

  • That Guy? is RICK WAKEMAN man! n´ Rudess ist not better than Wakeman, yesterday, today or tomorrow. Jordan hat no felling, just technik n´speed.

    Sorry

  • Markcello...

    fucking fag...

  • Yeah, a Fan for Stratomalmsteen!... jajajaja

    No Coment.

  • Apparently you are not listening to the fucking music he is playing dumb ass. Saying he has no feeling is like saying Yao Ming isn't tall.

  • Idem

  • Ahahaha this was great

  • Both Martin Leung and Yanni have perfect pitch too.

  • yanni isn't classy like jordan. perfect pitch, shmerfict pitch--that's not the impressive part.

  • First off, Yanni is an amazing musician. Second, Martin Leung is a better pianist than Jordan. I do have great respect for Jordan though.

  • JORDAN IS THE F'N MAN!

  • its avery pretty version of some great songs I especially like all the Yes and old Genesis stuff. I think Yanni sucks and

I think Rick wakeman is the fucking Greatest keyboard player on the planet but Jordan is very good and versatile too.I could see where DT fans might find this a little slow compared to what jordan does with them but its still a nice tribute to some great songs.

  • I went to a concert that one of Yanni's keyboardists put on just the other day, and believe me... Rudess OWNS them!!!

  • This guy is amazing.

  • I went to this show. He is an amazing Pianist. And why compare Yanni to Jordan?

  • You said Jordan is gay but you like Yanni... What would be more gay?

  • wtf....This is James Hetfield!!

    Hihihihi ;)

  • You are all idiots, this is all King Crimson Greg Lake balladas(pl.: talk to the wind)4.00min not yanni not new age, this is real progressive balladas.

  • Great stuff, but I was hoping he'd get into more of his DT style, too.

  • Yanni is to new age as Kenny G is to jazz

  • His gay is fast? What?

  • you suck balls!! he IS the best keyboard synthesizer player ever....

  • How does he manage to make "And You And I" sound like Ferrante & Teicher ?!?!?!:P Nice set list, tho. I especially liked "I Talk to the Wind". No matter what instrument(s) we play, we ALL owe a debt of gtatitude to Crimson. Peaxe :)

  • Great Jordan!

(HEre he remembers me James Hetfield of MEtallica ehehe)

  • listen to the stuff he does in his work with dream theater, like the song vacant. it's really beautiful and not complex at all. i think its on the 'train of thought album'.

  • yanni dont play piano?hahhahahahahahahah

  • What kind of a defense is that?

  • yanni!!! that guy don't play piano. dude if you don't know anything about music shut up.

  • Great stuff :)

  • 1:26 wow !! it's like liquid tension !!!

  • yeah i thought the same when i was listening :D

  • mortel... merci!

  • Lolol

  • if you're going to reply, don't be a dumb-shit loser and annoy people with stupid things like double comma's. do you have some kind of mental disorder which makes you press it twice every time? secondly, i will use facts to put your stupid ass in its place. Jordan Rudess was in Juilliard School of music at the age of NINE! and Yanni is self taught. they arent even in the same league. so go crawl back under the rock that you came out of and learn some correct grammar

  • agreed yanni dont even know bout that prog-metal

  • That was a pathetic attempt at an insult, especially coming from someone your age. Even if you don't like rock, Yanni is the Green Day of new age music -- and that is a very, very bad thing.

  • did you just say that "Yanni is better" than Jordan Rudess!?! ...You're an idiot.

  • SOON (TGOD); SUPPER'S READY; ENTANGLED; ____?; AND YOU AND I.

I couldn't recognize the 4th one - was it that "empty sorrow in open boats" or w/e from TLLDOB?

  • I Talk to the Wind - first KC album

  • Ripples from genesis

  • open mouth insert foot- I talk to the wind from crimson- dah sorry

  • also Entangled

  • 4:03 i talk to the wind...very nice

  • There is also a little bit of Entangled by Genesis... great medley!

  • that was really good. i normally don't like his musical style, but that was really good.

  • see? this is what rudess does to people.

    he's a genius.

he can make you love something you never thought you would like.

i dont like this kind of music also, i like progressive metal and not this kind of prog.

  • Well, you have to hear the originals. He is just doing a sort of romantic style piano rendition of these.

  • Yes' "And you and I" very lovely...

Geniuses of music know all these masterpieces... Genesis and yes I love you...

    Rudess really thanks...

  • He's a master,

In these notes I hear Genesis' more fool me and supper's ready..

    Lovely playin'...

  • I love how Jordan plays, very virtuous..

  • dude you must be blind to not see the talent of this guy. if you don't have the brain power to look past the fact that he plays a music style that you find "geeky" then I TRULY pity you.

  • you sir or maam, have no idea what you are talking about

  • Why are there so many people shouting "Whoo!" and "Yeah!" all the time? Shut the fuck up, stupid morons! Afraid nobody notices you or something??

  • QUE CHIMBA! Jordan es el mejor, ojala venga a COLOMBIA con o sin Dream Theater. Que pena con Dream Theater preferiblemente =P.

  • the guy is just perfection, i loved all his solo stuff as well as the DT stuff (obvously) soo im soo getting the covers album :]

  • so relaxing...

  • This is on his new album... check it out... amazing

  • emotion revealed as the ocean maid

  • the first one sounds like "Soon" from YES :D

  • Does this song have a name or is it just an impromptu performance?
