  • I swear I account for about half of the views. I absolutely love this song.

  • My Band covers this song and a couple others at shows...But We listened to neutral and others Back in the day...before digital transfer...

Anyone here around when cassettes were the norm?

  • Bastard in a basket! Bastard in a basket!

  • I'm trying to click your link to the aquarium drunkard page and it sends me back to youtube. :(

  • Sounds kinda like Gravity Car by Olivia Tremor Control.

  • I have the version with the singing saw.

  • @TurkeyJones91 it sounds so much better with the saw

  • i sometimes think that jeff is some sort of musical alien. i cant think of anyone who makes music like his, its otherworldly but deeply human. i dont fucking understand, but then again, im not sure im supposed to.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. Thank you.

  • I absolutely loved the video you put with this.

  • so this is what mu sucks dicks for?

  • like this comment if you like neutral milk hotel please seriously i need some moral support guys!!!!

  • @LetMyInspirationFlow If you need moral support from youtube "likes" then you need to seriously sort out your priorities in life.

  • @seansuperman I think LetMyInspirationFlow was kidding....

  • Excellent video! Beautiful song. Love NMH

  • this video is so adorable. i smiled so hard at the end.

  • This might be the best pearl jam cover i have ever heard!

  • Jeff Mangum cures depression. Fuck medication.

  • I'm going out on a limb, but don't mind the fall...NMH (Jeff) might be the greatest lyricist along with B. Dylan that ever graced a mic.

  • I really want to download this set but I cant figure out how to. Can anyone figure out how to get the mp3's from the link in the video description.

shoot me a message if so

  • @iHeartCoolStuff figured it out... right click the sound and save link as.

  • i couldn't imagine a NMH video that didn't have footage from like at least 60 years ago. there's something timeless about it!

  • The couple lives in Oakland? Doesn't look like it.

  • NMH=GOD

  • @carlasnudel >>An live

    go 'an hero'

  • fuck yeah, just. fuck. yeah.

  • Herp derp. The info told me.

  • Where is this version from? I know it from Beauty and Jittery Joe's, but I've never heard this one.

  • lil wayne has so much more talent

  • @MrKannibis Dude. That's just messed up

  • 2 people have no soul

  • I absolutely adore 20's films. The women's fashion I think is my favorite of the 20th century.

  • Jeff magnum in this song. witch is by far my favorite song by them!

but it reminds me of a more melancholy bob dylan.

easily number one on the playlist that im makeing for my funeral;)

  • what album is one from the one i downloaded has another sound to it..

    is it the live version?

  • Listening to NMH is like being reborn.

    Amazing,

Like you figure things out about yourself from one song, that most people can't in a life time,

I think listening NMH is Love.

  • There is no other band in the world that can create a sound as rich and pure and honest as the music they create. This, in it's most unadulterated form, clean and fresh, is what gives music its true name.

  • absolutely love this song and this video creation.

  • I love this song, too bad it was never released on their studio albums, so many lost gems I never discovered until recently because I had stuck only to their 2 studio albums and didnt explore any of their EPs, Demos, or live stuff which featured songs not on Aeroplane or Avery Island.

  • i met him in the metro station some days ago····

  • @overban888 U MET JEFF? TELL ME ABOUT HIM, WHAT WAS HE LIKE? TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME TELL ME

  • What album is this off of?! I keep finding these NMH songs on youtube I've never heard and want to buy them!

  • incredibly soothing

  • what album is this on?

  • THANK YOU.

  • Good sir, you have just paired two of my favorite things: Neutral Milk Hotel and silent films. I salute you! (By the way, the clip fits perfectly with the song! Good job!)

  • Excellent work!

  • so happy :)

  • POOP.

  • Well, if you've ever been depressed, you know that there are pockets where you manage to make yourself feel content, but it's all a facade until the true issue is resolved.

  • @crappybassist96 It sort of reminds me of the last chapter of The Cathcer in the Rye when the main character, who's been depressed the entire book, is overwhelmed by this unexplained melancholy happiness and starts to cry. That's how I feel about his song. I think you're emotions are more vulnerable when you're depressed so a feeling of joy is so sublime and euphoric that nothing can compare to it.

  • Chord progression is indeed G, A, C. Sounds best with the barre chords IMO

  • amazing band completely unique

  • Jeff says this is a happy song, but it always depresses me. Mmmm.

  • ???? this song is so happy

  • On "Live at Jittery Joe's" he goes on a rant about how it was written in the midst of depression because his life was "in the shitter".

That's what it sounds like to me - a thin veil of contentment over depression.

  • yeah but he said he wrote it while he was feeling good.

  • Great video :)

  • ya you can use G A C G or bar chords or power chords either way its a simple but great song

  • SO wonderful

  • alot of their songs are about anne frank..

  • @SpidersUnderSkin not really something to "get". just listen to the music :)

  • one of the most under rated voices, i like how he re-uses alot of phrases in songs like " milking".. neutral milk is a big influence for my own music creation, when one of my best friends died i listened to alot of them and it mimiced my sadness

  • @shadyreefer69

If your own lyrics are inspired by Neutral Milk Hotel, then you must be whiting some damn good songs sir.

  • while this song reminds me of where I came from, I come to terms that where i grew up, molded me to become who I have becomem for the rest of my life.

  • awesome video.

  • Does anyone know what chrds Jeff is ising? It sounds like there's only three.

  • yah, it's G A C G

but he plays it the bar chord way rather than the formal way

  • G, A, C

    Barred.

  • Chords are G A C, and back to G, I believe.

  • @kidcopernicus he played it live G# A# C#, but yeah, sooo good.

  • I'm sure this is a long shot, but does anyone know what type of guitar Jeff has from the sound?

  • I can't tell by the sound, but Jeff has been known for playing his Gibson ES-125 most often, as you can see in many of Neutral Milk Hotel's live performances. I assume that is the guitar he is using here.

  • He's played it on a couple of different guitars in live performances, so I dunno lol.

  • @stickman106 hes got himself a martins acoustic mate

  • @stickman106 Just use any acoustic guitar with dulled strings

  • i dont get why people are fighting on this

    Go fight about something else

  • Is this envy?? or just the illusion of your superiority??; why don't you criticise war, or rape or abortion?? Not interesting enough?

  • Hello, everybody!

bankspappas, I had no intention of plagiarizing someone else's material. It seems that you did not press "more info" to see my full description of this video. I quote from the description: "The movie is a 1924 silent film part of the Tribune-American Dream Picture serial. It is part of the Prelinger Archives so it is licensed under the Creative Commons No Rights Reserved."

  • @Ukanflyy it's all good brother. you dun good. realgood.

  • Yes but he had the thought to do it.

  • The clips were very fitting. I quite enjoyed it.:]

  • where can i get this song -cant find it on ther albums... I love the song

  • a lot of Jeff's best songs never came out on an official album.

  • Oh man, thats to bad! Sombody have to release this song on a EP! Or something else. Thanks for the answer :)

  • yeahh. it was the B-side to Holland, 1945, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't released on a CD or anything. you can download it...paying for it or not.. :D

  • it's live on the jittery joes album, which is just jeff mangum alone, and the version I prefer, but it's also on the album everything is, which is their earliest release. Both are on itunes.

  • It's not on Everything Is, it's on the Holland, 1945 single.

    Everything Is playlist:

    1. Everything Is

    2. Snow Song, Part 1

    3. Aunt Eggma Blowtorch

    4. Tuesday Moon

I agree that the Live at Jittery Joes version is the best

  • I enjoy Jittery Joe version of many songs.. your video is cool though.. very simple.

  • You can also find it on the awesome Oh, Merge! compilation.

  • Wow, this is really bizarrely fitting. Good job!

  • I like how they keep the baby in an actual basket. That's classy right there.

The ending gave me chills, I don't know why.
