When u show the example how not to stop. There's nothing wrong with stopping like that. That's how began to stop. But then ofcourse I can stop with both feet easy
Thanks Chris. You helped me out. Now i am trying to learn crossover pretty well. now Symos003, make sure you start out going slow, and get very comfortable. then go faster, n u will understand. Other than what Chris said, you need to practice it alot, its not something that you get over night. Keep practicing and let me know what problems you have, cuz most likely i faced them too
Awesome tip!, i know how to hockey stop on my right foot(right foot is outside), but i cant stop with left, when i try, it doesn't scrap, it just turns me.
Hi Chris, Your video is fantastic. Great way of teaching! But to be honest... I stop the "wrong" way. And i love it. I'm a goalie and the way you teach doesn't work with pads.
@xPUR3xSKiiLLzZ Thank you for the great comment and support, Your pads make things a little different so I understand. It would be great to have some goalie tutorials out there. Don't forget to subscribe and join us on the website forum page :)
Good stuff, man. Who'd've thought I'd learn to stop from a brother from across the pond. Hockey stops are fun! You know what else is fun? Destroying stereotypes.
Hii Chris. I am a skater of course. I can hockey stop pretty well. I just got my skates sharpened. I worked them in too. When i hockey stop, I i spray some ice. It usually goes straight unstead of going pretty high and alot. Can you help me out here? I just really want some tips or help on how to spray the ice higher. Like what i have to do. Thanks Chris. Haha i realyl really wanna spray the ice higher. Oh btw your vids are amazing thaank you plz help
@TheSideHQ There are a lot of facts to make sure your doing to get that right, we can go over them in more detail on the forum page as i don't check Youtube daily. follow the link in the video description and to the site join our forum and post your message there, you'll not only get my input but also lots of other experienced hockey players and skaters.
Angle, knee bend, weight distribution and speed are the main things to a high spray...
@pincheatworld Evander Kane and Wayne Simmonds are some of the leagues' best young stars for the Jets and Flyers. Dustin Byfuglien is a solid defenseman, and Jarome Iginla is one of the best players of this generation. There are many others. I hope there will be more, it will be good for the game and hopefully draw more fans to it
hey we talked a couple of months ago about. i just got back on my skates. i tryed what you showed in the video. my skate can shave the ice only when im stoped. but when i try to do it skating the blade dose not grip at all and they are brand new skates. soon as i try my right leg just wont do anything
hey, what is wrong with the "wrong stop" part of the video? it's less agressive than the both feet stop, but it's a nice effective stop also... i cant see anything wrong in it, i use it a lot along with the main 2 feet stop... correct me if i'm wrong
Hey, i was wondering if there is a particular way you get your blades sharpened? I have just got mine and crossovers are slippery and so is skating normally. Do i just have to wear them in? Thanks in advance! :D (Love your vids and please reply! ily)
@XXICE43XX If you've just got a new pair they don't normally come ready to use (unless stated otherwise) there is a wide variety of different depths you can sharpen your skates to. Search for this on google or youtube, first link is my video which will explain more "skate sharpening guide" otherwise join the Facebook page for more info and a fast response. Thank you for your support, don't forget to subscribe and like if you found my video helpful.
Hey, when i do the two footed hockey stop, my back foot (outer-edge) tends to do all the work and i dont know how to even it out, is there any way to help me?
@yummydj Your feet need to be shoulder width apart with your knees bent over the toe caps of your skates. This will even your weight and stopping technique out (remember to lean back slightly when stopping)
i dont play hockey, but i have been skating since i was about 5, but when i try this, i feel like my skates are going to dig into the ice, and i will fall. i feel like im going to stop immediately, and not glide and stop slower.
@EskayGFX You control this by the amount you lean back and also where on the skates blade your weight is directed towards. If you don't lean back enough, your edges will 'catch' the ice and dig into much. Ice conditions and blunt or sharp skates will also affect this. Control how much you lean back (to control your skate blades angle to the ice) and your knee bend and you'll get there with some practice.
I need a tip to getting used to the inside edge of my left foot. I can't seem to do a hockey stop with both of my feet, the only edge that will actually touch the ice when I stop is the outside edge of my right foot. I think this is because I am only a one-sided-person ( I am really dominant on one side (right) but I really suck on the other (left) ), I can only do a tight turn clockwise and I can only do a crossover with my right foot going over my left. So please give me some tips, thanks!
@DatGlekkie if you are stopping to your right, tilt your left ankle counter clockwise and tilt your right ankle clockwise. Your knees should also be bent, butt down, and back straight. if you are still having trouble, that means your brain is still adjusting how to skate. learn to walk before you run!
@GraffitiArtRomania Please do not, take them to an ice rink or ice skate store and have them sharpened properly, most hockey boots do not come sharpened when ordered unless the store says otherwise.
i just went iceskating today with a okay sharpened skates and i was trying this and the blade kept on catching the ice. my blade would not slide. whats the problem?
I have one question...i have been public skating for 2 years but havent played hockey so ive shy'd away from the uncomfurtable techniques (such as crossing over on my weak foot and stopping on my weak side) but my question is when i stop (as of right now i ALWAYS stop on my left foot) on both feet i always tend to put my right skate directly in front of my left...is this bad? should i practice pushing my right foot back and to the right a little to let my left foot come forward? Great videos btw
@JaySooz508 having your skates in the proper position helps with balance and offers control (if your stopping very quickly or get hit while stopping etc) so it’s important to get the positioning correct. If you join us on hockeytutorial[dot]com (link in description) and post your question on the forum page, I can reply with videos and also images to give you a better idea and offer more tips and support. Thank you so much for your support.
@anakin1337 This is normally due to not bending your legs, having most of your weight on one leg, and also not leaning back when stopping (meaning the angle of the blade is wrong) Come onto the forum at hockeytutorial (link is in the video description) I'll be able to explain everything better with pictures and videos
Hey when i try to hockey stop i get my right foot "I stop to my right" perfect but i just cant seem to get my left leg and foot around to scrape with the outside edge to be able to stop with both feet,Should i lift my left foot up completly or just slide it around to stop?
@inlinefreak07 (1) The trick is to turn both feet/skates at the same time, they don’t need to come off the ice at all, just learn back and try the hop’ing method I spoke on in the video, this gives you the leverage needed to reduce weight from the blades giving you time to turn them to the correct stopping position.. it’s all about trusting your edges while learning how to angle them correctly.
@inlinefreak07 (2) You need to start at a slow pace, try the exercise I recommended along the sides of the barriers, this allows you to learn the feeling of having the edges shave the as (as they will while stopping) it’s all about practice, practice, practice, you have to try and get your body use to turning both skates at the same time, practice slowly, then build up speed as confidence increases.... join our online forum to continue on this subject, links in the video description.
@lakhs12 Hey Lakhs, that means you need to put more of an angle on your blades by leaning back while stopping, so next time you try it, lean back more and bent your knees more, the momentum of stopping will bring your body back to the upright position after the stop, so you won’t fall back if you do it right..
@iragotten I agreee :) since watching these videos i have been able to do the hockey stop and i can spray heeeaaaps high for me (like up to the top of the barrier) keep it up Juvenilee6videos!! ;)
