"GUNSMOKE" [Saturdays, 10-10:30pm(et)] was about to premiere on the network (this is apparently from late August or early September 1955, as the show debuted on September 10th), and Arness appeared to "plug" it. "Marshall Matt Dillon" lasted on CBS for 20 years. Johnny would have to wait until October 1962 for "THE TONIGHT SHOW"- on NBC- to carve out his own legacy {30 years}...
