hey guys i have a 99 passat 2.8 had same problem 2 things for the shaded boxes change coil pack for tach and abs change brake light switch hope this helps
I have similar problems on my 99 Cabrio; check engine and oil lights comes on, tach drops to zero, gear indicator not indicating, and the car goes into limp-mode. Only fault showing is P1613 which I understand means the check engine light came on, which is no help. I have had the TCU and ECU swapped - all very expensive and now the mechanic wants to change the wiring harness. Car isnow sitting in the garage worthless to me because the check engine light prevents it from passing smog.
I have the exact same problem on my passat, same year and engine. Did you find out what was wrong? Someone told me I need to replace the Catalytic converter, but I really don't want to spend a fortune if the guy is not sure.
I got worse problems nd have no idea what to do

It's ur abs module harness.... Or low brake oil.. I'm fixing mine right now

oh and also underhood the umbrulla cover for ecm make sure its not getting water or moisture inside use black silicone to fix that problem
