  • I SEE ME :D

  • Hi--

Couple of questions...why is a 'merkin flag hanging in the background?

and the opening tune--I learned it as "The Black Tower" on the pipes, but I'm really not sure that is the correct title. I don't play it all polka-like on the pipes though.

Nice little clip. Our family is from Inchegeelagh. Now we're stuck in California, but we're going to move back to the Cork/Macroom area in a year or so.

    Bye bye bye.

  • @splortz The Philidelphia Mummers, a citizen band the perform all over the world, have been the guests of honour for the past ten odd years and a huge contingent come and stay in Macroom for Paddy's Day hence the American flag. There is also the fact that over 70 million diaspora can trace back to Irish roots. I have to plead ignorance on the name of the tune, can anyone assist? Lucky man being 'stuck' in California. Better than being 'stuck' here in a recession.

  • @schmeeling ... For your information .. We're not suppose to cross our legs actually, because its a polka .

  • @MrsOneDirection4ever hahah :P

  • we are awesome... i 4got 2 go in whoops.. lol.. xxx

  • @mollyisagooddog just saying it doesn't look like irish set dancing to me, it's how my friends do it when they think they are irish dancing

  • @schmeeling I owe you an unreserved apology. You are right they are not crossing their legs. The reason is because it's a traditional polka. In times past Irish dance had many variations. You could tell what province a person came from by their style of dance. In the 1930's the catholic church took charge of our cultural heritage and forced a form of dance on the people where no bodily contact was made. Hence hands down by the side. Priests would attend gatherings to ensure this rule applied.

  • @mollyisagooddog ok well thank you for explaining, I never knew irish dancers used to dance like this is some places but did know how the hands by the side came about. Sounds like tudor dancing tbh, they weren't allowed physical contact either! Well I suppose that was true for most styles of dancing until the 1930's/40's

  • if they are irish dancers why aren't their feet crossed???????
