@someonex011 Sorry to tell ya but even if you under 18 you pay tax. Depends on your earnings. @ Ray131262The £400 per month is if it's your only source of income.
Fool... I'm 14 and as a DJ I'm required to pay taxes because my income is over $500 a month. Have you ever had a job? The US taxes everyone working, not just the adult citizens.
When you become "self employed" you can still earn your main living off of doing an ordinary "9-5" job. H.M.R.C don't deduct taxes from your income or net profit until you EARN in profit over £5000 per year. If you do a job full-time (exc. weekends) and make more than £5000 per yer, which is obviously going to be the case!... You HAVE TO then pay tax on every penny you take from your dj'ing income, whether or not you aren't making more than £5000 profit per year on dj'ing alone.
hey i am dj henri i have 16 years and i am dj i have mi own bootlegs or remixes how you want read in search dj henri i ayer electro remix and another dj henri right round electro remix please look at them and then saz me if they are good please its important
are you an up and coming dj think you have what it takes to become the best then go to my profile and click on the idjondemand link the site is full of tutorial videos and other great information.
This is a really good idea. Even if you never get a gig, considering the price of the equipment if you state you're self employed you can deduct all your equipment purchases as expenses from your taxes.
Nice comment. Makes me consider doing it to get some decent kit. I would like to know a bit more first, however, because it seems too easy to be true ;).
Its true. Same goes for grphic designers who want to buy anew computer. State you will be self employed, drop $5,000 on anew PC and deduct it as a business expense. I'd do it if I was any good but seems a little crazy dropping $5K on gear just to see if you'd be any good at it.
It does really. I bet the people that do it have a right good time buying decent stuff for fuck all. I'd do it too, but for similar reasons, might not till I actually wanna be self employed.
i haven been slowly been trying to get back into spinning mobile shows, but so much has changed since i last gave it a go back some 15 years ago. from equipment to music source to lights, its almost like starting over.
your vids are inspiring me and serve as a very key resource.
I don't think you need to do anything like that if you are in the usa. When you have to file your income taxes there is a place on the forms where you can put other income. Of course if you are being paid in cash, by a club, it's going to be untaxed at that point. So you might owe the IRS some of that money later on. But the amount you owe is reduced when you take into account your expenses, etc.
Also i'm a bit of a pussy because ive been djing for a while ,feel ready to hit the clubs but im shittin my pants ,not just because theres loads of people"AHHHH! will i be any good?!!!,will i clang??!!!" but also theres so many stabbings goin on in these sort of places when ur walkin out the club at fuckin x time in the mornin skinny 17 year old wiv my pride an joy in a box not likin the idea of it being swiped get back to me on your thoughts. cheers
hey man ive dj a parties clubs and a few concerts and had a bad expriance with what ur talkin about it was like a saturday night and i had been djing for a while the other guy who normally helps me unpack and stuff couldn't make it that night. well then three guys jumped me when i was leaving and then they got off with about 10 to
13k worth of gear from then on i got my two older brother and a few of there mates to come along and be security and clubs really like it cause they don't need to worry about it and plus u push ur price up more. but yeah security is a must when going on to clubs ( someone who will be with u all night not just when ur playin) and even at house parties its a good idea to have someone with u and pay em $50 or something.
Whats the advantages of becoming self employed??? Do you have to pay tax an shit??? Probz not but WHATS THE POINT!!!???why not jus go to a club "hey can i dj" "sure" "cheers" an bobs ur uncle(wish it was this easy) ???? cheers get bak to me ;-)
One thing is to make sure that when you deal with your client(s), make sure you make your deals by written agreements or contracts. What you need to declare in related to taxes is when you invest in brand new equipment is to make sure you keep your bills and declare them in the yearly tax, so you can get money in return.
u do look like bruce willis man hah but on a real note; im only like 13 so i dont know if im leagally allowed 2 do this kinda stuff. so untill i find out can you check out my mixes and tell me if i have talent and a chance at this kind of stuff?
cant u just "lose" some contract receipts and claim that ur dj' buiseness is slow, and at the same time write off ur equipement expenses so the government dont fist people in tax dollars?
National Insurance Number? Does that mean you get "Free" health insurance? Because that must be nice, If its something solid,? And your taxes aren't crazy because of it,? For me on the other hand...well you'd have to see Micheal Moores movie "Sicko" to get an idea,? ;-)
People in States need to register a Bussiness name with thier local county and open a checking account. All other taxes and tax write off duties can be handled once you start making the government pay for your equip, records.
lol yeah i remmeber 2 bailifts calling on me for a stupid amount for business rates or something soft was some made up tax anyway lol and gave me 2 hours to find it else they was taking all my stuff luckly i managed to scrounge it up off people but yeah read it up and understand it properly else you will get bitten and nobody will care.

"The BOOK" is one reason why many DJ's prefer to stay underground and work 'under the table' and because of it, they sometimes don't even get payed.

You can do both. You can keep workign and just create a second filing as being self employed/second job.
You dont have to quit what youre doing now.
