Not bad. Next time try adding subtle effects that build up to the actually explosion, like tectonic plates glowing or something. This will make for a much smoother visual experience.

for as far as I know, if you get closer to the planet, nothing of the background will be moving, because it is too far away. :p, thank you for using different colours then the VC tutorial shows.
