That legato is incredible... all through the coloratura passages, into the high range and back again, not a single gap between notes regardless of consonants or vowel changes. Impeccably good technique.
@amayzak I agree- she is in total control of the whole aria. The phrasing is beautiful and well judged. She has a great coloratura technique too. A great voice of the latter half of the 20th century.
Such an amazing, powerful voice. The vibratto is hypnotic and she has wonderful control. Apart from the fioratura at the 5:07 mark, which is sounds a tiny bit confused, her interpretation is glorious.
I didn't know she had done more than one Viloetta, as I knew she had problems @ the Met in '83...but man! that glorious voice seems made for this. she beautifies just about everything, whether vocally fitting or otherwise. I saw her in concert singing the "O quante volte"...she was flawless, rapturous!
As far as I am aware she has only sung in La Traviata on a few occassions. Sydney 78 (probably her best), London (1980) and NY (1983). Plus her 1990 recording with Kraus. This is Kiri at her absolute best!!. Clean line of attack, glorious tone and no scooping or mannerisms unlike some of the major divas these days!!! Could I request more from this particular concert!! Do you have details? Thanks again.
more clips for you, my dear. Sorry for having no details.........I think it was a concert at the same period of time during Dame Kiri and Sir John were recording the "Verdi&Puccini Arias" album together for CBS.
