Something surprising to me was that you were vertically jigging in as little as 5 feet of water. You would think that fish would be spooked by the boat directly over them.
Hey, i live in Oregon, and love to fish down out my bout house, but i'm not sure how to bass fish so thanks for such a great video. My water tempature is around 45-50 degrees is that too cold to fish for bass??
2:26 false hit lol and he trys to play it off. thats why the camera cut to him actually catching the fish. nice way to hide it though, but i can here his pole dragging in the water. what fisherman drags his pole in the water when he catches a fish? lmao
I use a 71/2 foot custom Bass Pro Shops ultra-lite with a Shimano Sahara 750fb reel, and 4 lb test for this style of fishing. I get more feel, better casts, and the drag on the Shimano is silky-smooth for the larger fish. Small mouth in the Ky river and it's tributaries are very spooky. That bait casting rig is not sensitive enough , and the line is too heavy for the best presentation with a small jig in clear, cold water conditions.
i dont like jig fishing but you open my eyes about it now i when last night and i had fun the guy's i was with told me i was wasting my time with that jig but i cough 7 and 6 of them was 12inc or more so i show them thanks a again....keep them comming
I don't get it. I went to Canada a couple weeks ago and whenever I used a jig, I snagged. I bounced it along the bottom, but I got snagged everytime. Our boat was anchored so I do not know if that had anything to do with my problem. Any suggestions?
if youre getting snagged use weedless jigs or a weighted texas rig. i get snagged on the river alot fishing with a 3/4 oz jighead but sometimes getting snagged for a couple minutes isnt so bad. ive ripped my jigs out of snags and got big bass off reaction bites
i have a peanutbutter and jelly jig and it works very well in the summer in indiana (where i live) and ive even caught muskie on it you should try one if you havent alredy.
haha love this video.. remember watching it a few months ago n got hiped up to start jig fishin. Ive caught some lunkers and have learned it takes patience and persistence. Thanks for the cool vid.
I'm up in Aurora Ill. I kill bass in small retention ponds, or subdivision lakes, spring-Fall.. I never fish live bait, Get Good results on Black/blue for jigs, (electric blue w/ black body) Or power bait trick worm, Saber Tails my biggest was may 5th, saw a pair of spawning male/female on the bed, Got the male first, was about 1 1/2 lb, Threw back to the bed, Got the 7lb female FULL Of eggs!, took 2 pictures, Released here and she swam right back to that bed! Put more videos up when u get em.
GREAT VID.. PLEASE KEEP THEM COMMIN. theres a cold front right now in florida and friday theres anotherone commin. satrdays my tourney on conway. gotta get jiggin down pact.
I just started fishing jigs this summer. Never had confidence in them. One think I can tell you is dont rush it and give up! I started out small with a 5/16 ounce black and blue booyah baby boo and I went from there. Now even on the coldest days I know I can catch fish consistently on jigs! Get your own feel for how you like to work the jig and you will be suprised how versitile they are. Good Luck!
6 1/2 or 7 footer med-heavy in winter or colder season. Heavy rods just seem to lose some feeling on real cold days. Heavy works well 3 seasons of the year but in winter the action ond vibration through the line to the rod just isnt there.
Good video for the people. I thought you got stung on that first fish lol,, The last bass might have went 4 1/2 good tourny fish I got me a 8lb female on the beds this morning on an over sized crank bait, man you gotta love the spring! Best of fishing the Informative Fisherman
Ive heard vertical jigging for largemouth but never tried it.I live down in South Carolina and we only have about three really cold water months.Ill for sure give that a try.
thanks for the solid down to earth information- and keeping it simple and fun

you were probably jigging it in weeds or around structure that you were getting snagged on. try jigging around on rock piles like he is doing.

are you droping your casting
fighterslay 3 years ago
yes, most of the time, occassionally Ill flip it out to keep the line twist out.

ever thought of using a heavyer jig and fan casting you will cover more water instead of an up and down retreive
