  • What does he say from 1:37 to 1:41? I've noticed this on all his performances of this song. He doesn't say "tells your new friends." He says something else I can't understand.

  • @jackknifedjuggernaut He says "tells me where to stand."

  • @jackknifedjuggernaut It's "tells me where to stand"! :)

  • Check out the version of this song by Rich O'Toole. It is the best version I have heard.

  • The emotion in 2:00 is perfect. Goes so well with the lyrics. I wish Turner would record his version with that kind of emotion and release it somewhere.

  • 1:56 is the best part

  • That was fantastic. Frank shall never stop singing. At least if I would have anything to say.

  • Oh my fucking god. His voice is so epic.

  • goddamnit frank, you're absolutely perfect

  • So much better than the Postal Service.

  • Interesting: I just found this by chance, and realised it was 4 years ago to the day.

  • great cover but the best bit of this video is the threat to cut off people's legs if they don't listen to ben marwood.

  • i took his advice... listen to that man, kids!

  • does anyone know the chords he plays in this?

    i'd love to learn it.

  • @ITSJODYCRADDOCK

    VERSE: C F Am

    at the "where I am" it's F C G twice.

then back to verse, then at the "Only Thing" it's one FCG,then "Keeping me dry" is F C Am

From here on the rest of the song ("It seems so out of context") is F C G. :)

I just did this cover the other day, check out my video for it and lemm eknow what you think! :)

  • You sound like you should be doing Mumford and Sons covers, not Postal Service. Your voice just doesn't fit. Good or bad, up to you.

  • @rahelswolf

    Not sure if serious........

Frank Turner isn't just some pub singer you know!

  • @PositiveTension505 Trolling reference FTW.

  • At first I was like "...Well, this doesn't live up to the original." Then he started screaming and I was like "HOLY GOD he redeemed himself!"

  • @CosmoniteMedia Shut your mouth. SHUT YOUR DAMN WHORE MOUTH.

  • this song is done much better by ben !

  • @fulham987 BLASPHEMY. KILL YOURSELF SOON.

  • @fulham987 you know a ben did the original song too right...?

  • @stiles05s yea :)

  • explosion of awesome at 2:06

  • I <3 Ben Marwood!

  • 2:04 onwards is pure fucking passion.

  • anyone know what chords he's using here?

  • @StreetlightEagle yes, look on ultimate guitar, they have the tab for this version

  • @StreetlightEagle

not the chords of the actual song.

I can tell you that much.

  • OH MY GOD LUV ME.

  • In many ways more than one Ben inspired him to play this...

  • i dont understand why this vid has received so much negative feedback. wtf is wrong with you people. i really enjoyed this cover, he sang it beautifully and the guitar went perfectly with it. the only parts i didnt like too much was when he shouted a bit but it still didnt bother me that much. a great cover in my opinion, piss off hating mother fuckers.

  • fake!

  • @akkisAtze Fake? Its a cover, he even says its a cover.. In what way is it fake???

    Get a grip, he's awesome!!

  • love love love. possibly even better than the original. and i love the original.

  • amazing

  • I've lost count of how many times I've listened to this.... Pure bliss...

  • if you dont like this, you can suck a butt

  • if you dont like this, you can suck a butt

  • Love this song, bought the album not to long ago after listening to love ire &song nonstop for weeks :L, admitedly this is the first version i found then looked up the original, i prefer this one , but im not really into the techno thing.

The arguments here on it though are grade A funny :L, i doubt any of you actually speak like that and are just usuing that to show off your vocab? Cause that males you snart somehow? :L you probably had to spell check it to not look like a fool first :L

  • Ironic how the first time I watch this video, and it was posted three years ago.

  • @Eat1tal1an So covering songs is unoriginal, but quoting Jim Morrison isnt?

  • I love how at 3:11 he's just like, "Okay.... I guess I'm done."

  • I feel like I have been vocally raped.

  • 2:02 I got shiverss.

  • holy shit.

  • sweet cover, but has anybody else noticed that he totally screws up the line 'that tells your new friends'... he just spews some garbled jibberish

  • @schefjackson117 thats happened to me when i play live all the time ahaha

  • Dude I came to troll, but this is fucking awesome!

  • @POEEPOPE Little trolls also have feelings ;(

  • Can I get the chords for that? I absolutely love it and I'm just playing the standard chords for it on piano and I like your version better.

  • go to ultimate guitar, they have it just about dead on

  • Frank Turner - the best thing to happen to British music since... well to be honest, he is just the best. Check him out

  • Not enough people have heard this version of this song!

  • amazing

  • i love this man.

  • jesus it looks like hes going to take a bite out of the mic

  • he's so bloody amazing <3

  • I thought this song was originally done by Ben Gibbard, or was that also a cover?

  • @VicKyCusTard it was done by the postal service, of which Ben Gibbard is/was the singer.

  • @zachwulderk yes, but was that the original ?

  • @VicKyCusTard I believe so, yes (5 months later)

  • so much passion! SO AMAZING!! never seen a cover better then this

  • He has an okay voice, but it's pretty weird.

  • Awesome!

  • So much fucking PASSION

  • who the FUCK is this guy! I FUcking LOVE this song! both this, and the original are so amazing and so passionate in different ways...

  • Personnaly, best song made by Postal Service. Never heard a cover of it, but this is just perfect dude, we can feel what your singing! Keep it up !

  • is there an mp3 of this floating around anywhere? fucking amazing omg

  • @ifonlyicouldsleep It's on "The First Three Years" album in studio form.

  • When Frank sang this in Norwich it was fucking amazing! Keep it up FRANK!!!

  • i like this version more then the original

  • vocals=epic

  • PS Thank you so much iamlars for uploading this. Massively appreciated.

  • I'm genuinely not exaggerating when I say this is my favourite cover of all time.

  • God amongst men.

  • That last minute honestly had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up!

  • gave me goosebumps, i haven't commented on a video in a long time, but i felt that i had to for this. Brilliant

  • yeah me too, i read the comments and i loved the original song but this one version made my whole body prickle!

  • it's live, perhaps that's why. he sings his fuckin' heart out, perhaps that's why it's not note perfect. long live the frank!

  • spot on!

  • I thought it sucked and as I was clicking back you got me at the end, it was wonderful, good job

  • If Frank Turner sees this..please record this. in fact PLEASE record a cover album I'd buy 10 of them haha

  • @xjoeynumbasx He has recorded it. It's on a kind of rarities album called 'The First 3 Years'. You can get it bundled with Love, Ire and Song for the price of one cd now too.

  • He has, if you'd like some help tracking it down, message me and I'll provide some "details"

  • @xjoeynumbasx He already has mate

  • It's on the love ire & sing + the first 3 years album. You can find it on spotify if you want a listen.

  • check out the first three years album (a love ire and song extra), it has this song :-)

  • OMG swoon. he is so amazing

  • Frank Turner... How can anyone be so perfectlly wonderful?

Also, i always threaten to cut off peoples legs too!! YAY :D LOL. <33

  • i dunno, beginnings a bit iffy, but after the shouting starts he makes it beautiful.

    fair comment peeps.

  • can see where you're coming from, but if he was shouting at the begninning it wouldnt really make sense cause its meant to be mellow and build up to the finish

  • die

  • "ill cut off your legs"

  • Check it out or I'll cut of your legs...

    Awesome.

  • Well, the original is a really sad song. So I think that FT did a good job on this cover. Very emotional one.

  • also die

  • this is beautiful. he played this song on my 17th birthday. how precious. his voice re-creates the feeling of falling in love... (:

  • Im a huge postal service fan and a huge FT fan, but I have to say (even though its a great version) the original still wins it for me. I'd love to hear him and a female vocalist do a duet of Nothing Better, that song is unbelieveable

  • better than the original, i like it.

  • You could not be more ignorant could you? He has many albums of original material, covering songs is for the entertainment of a crowd, out of respect and just for fun. You know nothing about my taste in music and to mention how opinions are allowed then get that childish? At least you vindicated my first reply. Goodbye and good luck.

  • You're the one with the problem, you're intolerant of anything other than the music you're used to. Don't come on youtube simply to bitch at the people who don't suffer from your saddening affliction.

  • hehe, this is 10 times better than the orgininal piece.

  • omg.. that wuz fuking amazing

  • I love the passion he sings this with!

  • @aledinsalisbury i love how angry he gets!

  • Comment removed

  • wow

  • I love this song, and frank is so awesome

  • does anyone have the tabs for this song?

  • From what i can see, its...

    Capo 3rd Fret

    Verse - C, F, Am

    Chorus - F, C, G

  • he is amazing. this song is amazing.

  • he's not playing it like metal you fool.

some people just dont have a clue!

this is a cover - meaning its not going to be entirely like the original - he's given his take on the song, which is fucking brilliant - its not metal - its just brilliant ok? : )

  • Comment removed

  • his guitar part is amazing

  • agreed !

  • this is good stuff

  • this is REALLY a cover!!!! when his play it loud i get like; what happend?.... thats the magic of a cover, something original... GREAT WORK

  • I kinda like his version.... It's different. Thumbs up!

  • agreed. it's funny because I'm only 15 haahahahh.

  • i did not often read a discussion like this on youtube, thank you both! but why the hell this is marked as spam?

  • yeah true true. his voice isn't perfect but the awesome part about music is the fact that everyone can make it their own. I respect your view on it. I'm not going to be the psycho angry youtuber who screams at you for having a different taste.

  • everyone has a right to an opinion. i like his rendition of the song he has the right feel even if it doesn't sound like the original.

  • This is what i hear, when i hear the original, all the raw emotion of Frank pouring out into the song. so good!

  • 'tells me where to stand'?

It was definitely good, but he sounds very angry xD

  • Oh now that's just lovely.

  • This song is beautiful and so is he!

  • This is waay better than the original. Frank has improved the song beyond recognition

  • I like Frank Turner and Million Dead, but I think he murdered the song with this cover. Works better in the electronic context without the shouty vocals, in my opinion.

  • this is really good.

  • This beautiful!

I love Frank Turner, in Million Dead and his solo stuff.

This is my favorite postal service song too.

  • he makes it his own

not saying it's better than the original, just different

    studio version is mint

  • @ the schmugest

You're obviously a narrow minded cunt.

Would you like some tea / coffee / common sense with your horseshit American pop punk.

    Bye bye. -_-

  • American has great music.Britain's got the best bands ever (The Beatles and Led Zeppelin), but America has Bob Dylan, Nirvana, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and of course The Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie. Not to mention an unbelievably amazing list of Punk artists like The Ramones and many others.

Idk if you were really saying shit about American music but I just wanted to set the record straight because I have British friends who give no respect to American music at all.

  • death cab for cutie???? hahaha yeah right good music.. fair enough if u think there good but no way should they be listed in america's great bands nooob

  • Tannerislegend...

get ready for some thumbs down...."brit doucher", suck my lefty.

My favourite band is American, but i like British, French, Belgian, American, Brazilian, Canadian...fucking eveything....

let it gooo and just love the awesomeness that is FT :D

  • @ theschmugest

Fuck you ok! Quit dumping on someone way way way more talented than you. Otherwise he too would be sitting there on his own looking for stuff to dump on!

    Jackass!

  • your gay

  • he got a few of the lyrics i think;

    "In THIS Gaudy appartment complex"

    &

"Tell your new friends" not tell you where to stand

    i could be wrong though.

i liked it when he "beefed" it up at the end though, good cover 5 stars ;]

  • please someone send me a tab of this

or at least a chord sequence

    would be forever greatful :D

  • have a look for the postal service version on the internet. i think frank may play it in a different key, but other than that, it's the same. just whack the capo on a different fret. hope that helps.

  • With no capo I play the verse as Eb Abminor Cminor, with the chorus as Ab (major) Eb Bb.

    I hope this helps.

  • Completely off topic but i love your name!

  • Sit away from the mic man!

Other than that it was great!

  • oh my god, i am a massive PS fan and happened upon this as i'm seeing Frank turner support the gaslight anthem in Feb.

absolutely amazing cover, props mate,if you play this at the bristol gaslight show i'll forever be in your debt!! :)

  • he played this at the portsmouth show!

  • absolutely quality!

  • fuck this is good

  • i like it.

    hes taken a song,

    turned it on its head.

    and made it his own.

this is what makes a cover good,

putting you own stamp on a song,

    and it sounded barry!

    :P

  • i like this

  • damn straight

frank turner is a legend in his own time

watch this space cos hes about to hit the top 40

    please keep making music frank
