Like the krav maga demos that teach how to defend against stiff armed frankestein monster chokes this seems geared solely to defending against a guy who gives creepy man hugs as a form of attack. "Watch out! I'm gon' hug you!"
It's a bit better than the static push hands. But the attackers are attacking like they want a big brotherly hug. Like the krav maga demonstrations that show me how to defend against a stiff armed frankensteins monster trying to choke me, this exercise seems limited to defending against a really pissed off tai chi teacher or a guy who gives creepy man hugs as a form of attack.
could someone explain to me how this works? i dont feel like joining tai chi ATM but i dont like the feeling when someones holding me down while being punched by another guy either...
Sam Masich freestyle demonstration reminds me of John Perkins' free-form adaptive art of Guided Chaos--it's based on the same principle of feeling your opponents energy. Sam is the man!
That guy is Sam Masich. He is about as realistic in his tai chi as it gets. I just received a video I ordered from him--GREAT STUFF! The only other similar to his applications is Ki Chuan Do out of New York--with their "contact flow" push hands. This is VERY similar to the Ki Chuan Do School.

Arctic, if it's a ground fight, your better off using jujitsu. Taichi is ancient chinese secret dating back to the late 300's BCE

That is some powerful movement. Not sure about any technique but there is something at the core of that guy that's super solid.

It's a principle you learn for these situations, not a movement. So, yes there gotta be something super solid.
