"And forever I'm dreaming of home I feel so alone, I'm dreaming of home." ---- I love this movie! It moves me to tears in so many places! I love the cat Nestor/Felix, I love when the tenor ---filled with pride and hope---brings the tree to the center of No Man's Land, and so much more. I am Jewish and this is my favorite Christmas movie.
I think that I'm going to buy this. although it is a war film, we can see here that we are still humans. Thank you, Christian Carion, for directing this masterpiece
Just watched this last night and wow..good film. George Washington, instead of celebrating xmas, attacked the enemy on xmas night or the day after if I recall correctly lol
No matter what country you're from; where or how you grew up; there are some things in life that transcend all differences; the joy of Christmastime is a wonderful feeling, and this movie - this scene - captures it perfectly.
Merry Christmas, Frohe Weihnachten, and so forth to all.
A wonderful film, this shows that this one day can bring people together, even if they're enemies in war. could cry because of this film, it's to beautiful~
i really believe that during any war time, especially this one, no 2 soldiers ever wanted to kill one another...they were just following orders from corrupt politicians, insane dictators, power hungry presidents, and egotistical world bankers, who actually funded the war effort..this is a prime example of what humanity is capable of. we've much advanced in science, technology, and medicine, yet we still kill and fight, steal, and rob to stay alive or for the pleasure of it..
We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We all want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another.
excerpt from Speech from Charlie Chaplin's 'The Great Dictator'
If you watch this film and are not moved by it then there really is no hope for you! I get a lump in my throat every time - Merry Cristmas whereever you are and waht ever language you may speak!!
@cap.vandorian I fear that the young lady is one of the very few artistic liberties that the film takes with the truth (alongside giving back weapons of the dead , sheltering in each others trench and omitting the one hour time difference between the German and allied lines). Yet for the dramatic effect of the film her presence is justified. And the famous (male) opera singer was there. He was applauded by the other side (as were germans all over the front) Also the songs are exactly accurate.
I love this film and try to watch it every year. Although it is not in itself a true story (and does not claim to be) nearly all details actually happened at different parts of the front, right down to the hello to the English and the response by the scots. It is my favorite Christmas movie. There are two good books about it. Silent night is already mentioned here. It captures the atmosphere well. For a more scientific approach, try Christmas truce from the pan grand strategy series, better sti
Absolutely my favorite Christmas film now. It has become a Christmas Eve staple since I discovered it. always moves me to tears. And how could anyone dislike this film!
Impossible to watch this movie without tears. Many letters from soldiers to their families describe this truce. Several are included in Oh Holy Night: The Peace of 1914...on amazon...a reflection on the truce and the events leading up to it.
This situation is amazing in the fact of this was the last war in which honor and fairness were actually used. One side would fire their artillery, then the other would wait until the opposite side finished their bombardment. This movie opens the eyes of some ignorant people and shows how much people cared. Today, such love and peace is not possible, as our worldly opponents do not share these Christian Beliefs with our people. Comment continued

@UFOTVGERMANY if you watch the movie they didn't fight again, they fired warning shots to get off no man's land and even sheltered each other in their bunkers when the artillery barrages came, only one person was shot after that night and it was fired by an angry depressed scot
To me, this was one of the most moving moments of the 20th century. Within the horrors of trench warfare, a truce was called on Christmas 1914. Many don't realize that it happened, but it did. Exchanging chocolate, cigarettes, food, drink, and even friendly soccer games was just incredible. Generals were horrified back in warm headquarters but in the trenches humanity reigned for a few hours. Stunning.
Touching scene. The sad fact however is that there will NEVER be peace on earth. Its just not part of human nature. So long as greed exists at least, and once again sadly, greedy is part of human nature as well.
This scene here when he sings Silent Night and Adeste Fidelis and the scene when the Germans leave the english trenches while the Scots playing Auld Lang Syne for a farewell later in the movie are the only moments till today I cried in the cinema. And till today I'm getting tears in my eyes when I see this movie.
@sam9116 well I could say you're a top comment chaser trying to get people attention to your channel, but for the most part, I am hoping the person that disliked this video is a robot who doesn't understand human emotions and has no sympathy or understanding of what is comparable to human loss or death and that they quickly realize that death is not something to toy with and that for these men on that cold night was one of the greatest sacrifices humankind has ever made for itself. -_-

I'd like to say that it's not the scene in this movie which is wonderfull (actualy,it is!!) This is more this part of history which is beautiful! During a war, the worst one, they just keep humanity in their heart!
Music used to unite people...now Americans use loudspeakers with heavy metal to drive the Taliban insane...our modern world has lost all class and humanity
@Lumotaku I have to admit thats true and im not trying to diss heavy metal or americans...but u have to take in consideration that the talibans werent used to that sort of music.
It would be awesome if this happened in afghanistan! However, there is one problem. The insurgents don't want to, they want to kill us. Gosh some of these fucking world peace people are retarded...
Yes, that's a different thing altogether, being a commanding officer, you could perhaps arrange something...however I doubt that Johnny Atkins could bring his sweetheart with him to, say, Passendale....;)
It is near impossible that this will ever happen again. At least, not on Christmas. Why? Well, you can't even say "Merry Christmas" here in the states without "risking" offending someone. So, imagine saying it in a war with people who don't even believe in Christmas. That's why this is impossible with the top comment about Christians, Sikhs, and Muslims. They all have different faiths. Gosh darn, all three countries have a church service in this movie. Good luck with that nowadays.
Lol, fckers play Battlefield, COD and think that gunning down a fellow human being is fun. WWII is different, as it was clearly against an ideology that swears death & destruction to many; WWI is just a war of confusion. In the end, wtf was the war about? Nobody can tell you th exact answer.
And that's why today we have ... professional armies instead of drafted soldiers. Such incidents have shown the ruling bastards that normal people, when forced to kill each other, are "unreliable". So, they decided that its better to have a volunteer-based, paid army, so that, either you fight to keep your familly well fed, or you fight because you're a mindless psycho that gets his fix out of killing. Social extorsion and mindless drones guarantee that a army will keep on fighting, no mater
War is the most evilest, vile, corrupting, and miserable thing we humans have ever created. Seeing how the good spirit of Christmas can still bring out the purest essence of the human spirit right in the middle of war; shows you that we humans still have hope.
@drumtap2792 Filled with pride, hope, and the human spirit the tenor sets across the field with a Christmas Tree and sings. This scene fills me with hope and brings me to tears....every time. I'm a 33-year old man.

Lol, fckers play Battlefield, COD and think that gunning down a fellow human being is fun. WWII is different, as it was clearly against an ideology that swears death & destruction to many; WWI is just a war of confusion. In the end, wtf was the war about? Nobody can tell you th exact answer.
Noobfromafar 7 months ago
@Noobfromafar I can.Today's wars are for a bunch of people to make some more billions. That's all there is to it.

One needs to be grateful that landmines were a standard practice only later in the war.

And (maybe) because of this miracle during the war, peoples are celebrating now christmas all over the world with christmas trees.

Even complete enemies can get together on such a magical night like Christmas.
KOREAlchemist 7 months ago 7
War is the most evilest, vile, corrupting, and miserable thing we humans have ever created. Seeing how the good spirit of Christmas can still bring out the purest essence of the human spirit right in the middle of war; shows you that we humans still have hope.
TomGuan69 8 months ago 20
@TomGuan69 its really too bad that something as truly miraculous as this cannot be seen in our current time between enemies on the battlefield.
Sidewinder5O4 3 months ago
@TomGuan69 humans didn't create war.Its a common trait in many primate species including ours.
