@cap.vandorian I fear that the young lady is one of the very few artistic liberties that the film takes with the truth (alongside giving back weapons of the dead , sheltering in each others trench and omitting the one hour time difference between the German and allied lines). Yet for the dramatic effect of the film her presence is justified. And the famous (male) opera singer was there. He was applauded by the other side (as were germans all over the front) Also the songs are exactly accurate.

I love this film and try to watch it every year. Although it is not in itself a true story (and does not claim to be) nearly all details actually happened at different parts of the front, right down to the hello to the English and the response by the scots.
