  • Labrie kills on this one. Terrific singing.

  • un pezzo allucinante.....troppo bello

  • there have always been extremists, but when the strongest country in the world got attacked then people suddenly woke up.

knights of the holy cross terrorised, nazis terrorised, chinese use terror to rule their people. USA got CIA, FBI and media to keep people in line.

Osama ain´t dead, but he can´t make more tapes, he got no cash left.

and the pictures of him dead can only be leaked by the men who took them, and why would soldiers do that?

    and he actually died before.

    terror=propaganda

  • where is part 2?

  • this is about alot of people been murdered

  • its a sad song but i like it

  • The song is about the Branch Davidians who died in the massacre at Wako, Texas.

  • I believe this song is about mormonism, and this is why:

"Tools of the devil inside, written in holy disguise" - mormons look like they worship God, but they believe Lucifer is God's brother, so they worship him also

"Killing in the name of God" - there was a war in 1838 against mormonism

"Forty sons and daughters, un-consenting plural wives" - Mormons believe (or used to) you should have as many children as possible, and some are polygamists

  • @Imowedthecarpetonce nah. this song is just about religious extremism in general. not one specific belief

  • @chaveznieves With some specific references to the Waco cult i think...

  • @chaveznieves

I think you're right, there seem to be references to the crusades as well.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, considering the whole "plural wives" thing, and the eastern-sounding main riff, I'm pretty sure this is about the Islam.

  • @gogerychwyrndrobwll no. its just referencing examples from specific religions. and islam isnt the only religion that practices polygamy

  • @chaveznieves No but I'm pretty sure it's the only one associated with arab themes.

  • @gogerychwyrndrobwll the SLIGHTLY arab sounding riff has nothing to do with that. trust me. its not just about islam

  • @chaveznieves It definitely sounds Arab. I just think DT didn't want to be TOO overt about it.... this was recorded in 2003 so the whole 9/11 thing was fairly recent by then.

  • @gogerychwyrndrobwll Based on your opinion, I could call every composition containing harmonic minor scales arab.

  • @WhynotMiha Bullshit and you know it.

  • @gogerychwyrndrobwll Not completely. Listen to Rachmaninoff's op. 23 no. 5 prelude. In there is a transition consisting of notes from harmonic g minor scale. The scale itself can sound arab, I admit, but I wouldn't say that a composition/song is affected by that alone.

  • @WhynotMiha I think we have a misunderstanding, mate. I don't think I ever mentioned the harmonic minor scale, only the subjective eastern/arab/egyptian feel of the main riff. You are entirely correct in saying that the scale itself does not possess that quality, but it's not what I said.

  • @chaveznieves I believe, considering this is 2 years after 9/11, that it is about extremist in Islam. Petrucci grew up on long island, so I think he wrote these lyrics considering that. He did write all of the lyrics.

  • @patrickdelehanty nah bro. its really just about general religious extremism. it pulls examples from several religions (islam included) but its about more than just islam

  • @Imowedthecarpetonce

Your examples do not point specifically towards Mormonism.

"Tools of the devil inside, written in holy disguise" - Can be interpreted as a comment on religion justifying wrong acts as godly acts

"Killing in the name of God" - Every religion has had a war against it at some point

"Forty sons and daughters, un-consenting plural wives" - I believe that even though polygomy does involve multiple wives, it also involves consent.

  • @MoviesAndMusic69 ok, thanks for clearing that up. at least you backed it up with proof, unlike a lot of people do

  • @Imowedthecarpetonce You are so fucking retarded. It's hilarious

  • @Imowedthecarpetonce I believe it's about all religions and gods. About christianity aswell.

  • AWESOME

  • wow, after 20+ yrs of listening to these guys they still amaze me...wow.And to mangini;dont worry bout filling those shoes,i'll never truly accept that mike is gone, but i wish you the best in all sincerity :)

  • DAT BASS

  • Find the truth, learn, understand, think and u will know. Enjoy the song.

  • In the past, people used 2 believe in many gods. But now none believe - atheist agnotic. Who appreciate more of the creater?

  • This song represents all of my rage at Christian elitists who give Christianity a bad name. One of my favorite DT songs \m/

  • @perrottafamily1 The elitists are coming down...only a matter of time. If your going to stand at a pulpit you better be ready to scrub the toilets as well. And maybe then we'll all realize that we are ALL responsible for this world.

  • @WoWtredalt21 if you don't like it, don't mention it.

  • this song makes me remember bad things about my personal life... but I still love it

  • One of the DT songs I go like - "yyyyik"

  • I would've payed good money to see Dio singing this.

  • @borikualoco Man, you've almost made me cry now... Dio on this one would have been... I mean... WHAT THA FUCK?!?!?!?!? :-)

  • I bet this is what the pope listens to.

  • fuking love the sound of Portnoy's snare here :o

  • Psalms 119: 33 He,'44 Vau,73 Jod. (((Yod`he`vau`he` יהוה))) And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love where with thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

  • thumbs up if you shat your pants the first time you heard the riff at 1:06

  • @username5964 i've heard this song thousands of times and I still do =)

  • @username5964 Thumbs up if you orgasmed at 2:16 - 3:05 !!!!!!!!

  • @username5964 IMO the riff at 0:30 is waaay better, it's a fucking killer riff AND song !

  • @ChihuahuaFTW it reminds me of metallica

  • @HellBits971 Yes it is Metallica, but on steroids

  • @username5964 I fucked them up !!

  • @username5964 i shit my pants every time i hear a new DT riff

  • i've got an idea... i think that dream theater is triyng totell us about false prophets taht are about to come. If we think at the other prophets how can we be sure about joshua or eliah??? just sayn'...

sorry for my bad spelling btw

  • Comment removed

  • I see the meaning as more as False Prophets and how they lie, ridicual believers and non believers of whatever religion to get what they (disgustingly) want."Listen....when the prophet speaks to you Killing in the name of God, twisting the faith" But thats my mind.

  • Such a moving song. I know there are many sounds out there, but I've been missing out.

  • I'm Agnostic...

  • 4:03 to 5:34 is so freaking majestic, it's freaking unreal, freaking god-like

  • I never noticed how sick that album cover actually is....

  • Athism is just like Religion... a big lie!!! Religions have some truth but have been changed and distorted throughout time. The truth is we are all part of 'god', everything is connected to everything else through the energy loosely described as 'love', all is one and one is all! But the term god has been exaggerated and personified by religion... god only means 'all that is'. We all contain the divine spark that is shared with everything.

Oh yeah, and i also love this song!!! <3

  • @DjHyphie If love connects us all then why does it kill me so? No.... no religion is a lie. All religions are correct as the "truth" cannot truly be comprehended. They are simply our futile attempts to bring order to spirituality.

  • @firelegendmushroom If you think 'love' kills you then you simply do not know what love actully is... FACT.

  • @DjHyphie Indeed!

  • @DjHyphie but you didn't explain why atheism is a big lie

  • amazing

  • Comment removed

  • i can solve all the religion here. GOD IS FAKE. but great song.

  • @nonamesleftsigh just because you and i may believe that, doesn't make it true. atheism is not the one thing in this world that is right.

  • @passion4drums its only my opinoin, it may be wrong, but it also might be 100% correct. we will never find out if god is fake or real though; people will always make excuses that he is real ( no offense)

  • @nonamesleftsigh well stating your opinion is not wrong, but in that way.... that's just nasty. and i don't even believe in god!!!

  • 1:06

  • Just this part on its own would make a terrific radio edit, but as we all know, things get ridiculously powerful in the second half.

  • so fucking good... dream theater it's my religion!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this song makes me think of DANTE'S INFERNO......eh? Anybody else?

  • Can someone help me out here, I've never herd of this band before, but then I got a whole bunch of their songs, and some of these songs, like this song, sound nothing like the songs I have... so is it a different version, it's not the part 1 thing 'cuz no parts sound like the stuff i have... :P I lost the CD I had, and now I can't find the songs online... wtf?

  • @SoulerGTD Dream Theater always sound like this :)...... maybe you had some other music, different artist

  • @SoulerGTD You probably downloaded the tracks from the Stream of Conciousness contest. At the time someone renamed those tracks with the names from DT's TOT. This track is the actual one from DT.

  • @SoulerGTD you must have downloaded misnamed files or something.

  • @chaveznieves I had the same problem. All of the copy of Train of Thought that I had was accurate besides this song. So, I listened to the song that I had that was incorrectly labeled "In the Name of God," and typed the lyrics into Google. The song I had was "Amok" by "Superior."

/watch?v=hcFOfnldCWI <---- There's a link to it. It even says "This song is often mislabeled as 'In The Name of God' by Dream Theater." in the description. Hope this helps solve some confusion.

  • @SoulerGTD you might be thinking of slayer

  • @SoulerGTD

  • @nexxogen auuu, pa jeste... :D jeste taj album hvala :)

  • @SoulerGTD same thing happened to me. i found out the songs i downloaded from limewire had the wrong names for the songs. for example i downloaded 'octavarium', but it was really "drained" off of james labries(dream theaters lead singer) solo album. to find if you have the correct tittles of the songs just search the lyrics of the songs.

  • @GangstaPoliceman heh, actually good advice... thanx :)

  • @SoulerGTD DT has al LOT of music, maybe you should check out their discography on their site.

  • @SoulerGTD hmm not sure...just use dvdsoft and you can download directly off youtube....and its free

  • @SoulerGTD This is the studio version. Perhaps you have a live version with the applause cut off. These guys, dream theater, are really good musicians and take it to heart to play perfectly in their live presentations, so you might not notice it. Alternatively, maybe you have covers of their songs.

  • @SoulerGTD Dream Theater is known for having very diverse songs, they've been one of my favorite bands for many years and still are too

  • @SoulerGTD as weird as it may be i went through the same thing.I had this very same CD and lost it.I swear to god man.

  • @SoulerGTD i think its because DT has diffrent periods in wich they made different songs. youve got the old stuff, the pre epic stuff and the really epic stuff:D and youve probbably got the not so epic stuff;) i would reccomend you to get their full biography

  • @SoulerGTD either theyre just some of their older stuff or u downloaded the vocalists solo band

  • @SoulerGTD

I had that same problem years ago, only to find that a lot of James LaBrie's solo album songs were labeled as Dream Theater songs. This includes the James LaBrie song ''Sacrifice'' being labeled as ''These Walls'' by DT and etc.. hope this helps.

  • @SoulerGTD there's a lot of misnamed DT files out there, I think they held a dream theater-sound alike band contest and purposely leaked them as dream theater songs possibly jus previously before an album release

  • @SoulerGTD dream theater changes their style all of the time but still manages to sound the same so that guy is probably right

  • @SoulerGTD im not sure seeing how this is the song?

  • @SoulerGTD Go to a cd store...

  • do people just dislike good stuff, just to piss me off?

  • sounds good;) Krótko mówiąc - zajebiste!!!!:)Fajne podziały, o brzmieniu nie dyskutował, bo....po prostu perfekcja!!!:-)

  • i know everyone is talking about religious extremism, but i wanna take the conversation in a different direction by saying listen to the timing of this song....its so insane...starting at 1:42 thru 1:58...i have no idea how they came up with a timing like that. such an amazingly talented band, from a theoretical standpoint as well as musically.

  • @JOELAB1020 Ummm... that's all 4/4. What makes it so interesting is the percussionist emphasizes a different part of the beat for a bar right as the melody changes its emphasis. They do this alot, in various songs.

  • @mrbeeb014 I totally agree, like the catholic church, they have wars in the name of god

  • to me its about how people use the name of god to do selfish acts and also how most religion is bull shit ....its just a way to control the masses...there has been more killing in the name of god than any other!

  • @mrbeeb014 You are spot on with that one.

  • You see how powerful music is. I mean there are alot of things to say in this page but wow.

  • I WANT THAT FONT YOU USED FOR THE NAME OF THE SONG! WHERE CAN I FIND IT?

  • i played this in the talent show.. i was bass nd the Jizzful guitar solo was only on keyboard cause my bro couldnt do shit haha

  • James LaBrie is so epic! Just listen to his voice, it's fabulous!

  • Brividi.... Spettacolare...

  • A Mind Beside Itself + Blind Faith + In the Name of God =D

  • this is very deep song

  • This is the song that convinced me to become a musician.

  • @Yetuset I think it just did the same for me.

  • who else here likes dream theater iron maiden and megadeth all equally like me

  • dos putos que no les guta lo bueno de la musica, jajajajajajjaa.

  • 2 people had suck a hard orgasm that they'r mouse flipped over to dislike button

  • It is satan calling you an idiot for not listening to the prophets, and following your posessed leaders instead. He is even telling you to listen to your Holy Book instead of using it as an excuse for killing, and telling you that the path to Heaven is the straight and narrow. If you read the Bible you would know that this is satan mocking you as you drift further asleep. Satan likes to brag about his work, and he loves to tell you God's plan in a way that makes you think that he is God.

  • @monkeyGOODcipherBAD

isnt it funny when osama started his messages to America he would say "in the name of god." look at the muslim history and read the koran and see the similiarity

  • @nobama08100 I think you miss the point. It doesn't matter what religion you follow, all of their histories are bloody for the same reason. All of the monotheistic Holy Books are from God. You need to understand them all. And you need to know that Christ has the keys to both heaven and hell.

  • @monkeyGOODcipherBAD we probably miss interpreted eachother but the point im trying to make is that the lyrics resemble the muslim religion. If you read them and really think of it then you might agree.

  • @nobama08100 actually I think specifically it's about judaism. It's simply about people not listening to the men of God, and listening to false leaders, who have no business leading people, leading them to death.

  • @monkeyGOODcipherBAD but in the lyrics "straight is the path leading to your salvation, slaying the weak, ethninc elimination... ...any day we'll all be swept away, you'll be saved as long as you obey." just like in africa when the muslims invaded and killed all of the Catholics because they wouldnt convert. "Justifying violence

Citing from the Holy Book Teaching hatred In the name of God" sounds a lot like the koran. but its all how we interpret it.

  • @nobama08100 'Straight is the path leading to your salvation' can also easily be referring to Christianity's often narrow-minded view on right and wrong. As is the case in most religion. 'Slaying the weak, ethnic elimination' sounds kinda like the crusades, no? 'Any day we'll all be swept away' second coming of Christ? Armageddon? That also makes perfect sense with the following line 'you'll be saved as long as you obey' this song can really relate to any organized religion in existence.

  • @blavaburnulots i more or less think this has partly to do with the terrorists bombing 9/11 and them saying God told them to do it which is complete bullshit. fuck osama bin ladin

  • @6393dude I like to think its message is about the corruption in the Catholic church which in turn can apply to any religion and how mankind consistently takes a good thing like religion and turns it into something ugly. Terrorist extremists ae a perfect example of that.

  • @blavaburnulots I'd have to argue religion is something ugly without the fundamentalists. they are just the icing on the cake.

  • @roadkill1001 I said they were a perfect example, not the only example.

  • @6393dude

I'm thinking more in the lines of all the war and fighting that has been going on ever since people made up Gods. "My god is stronger then yours".

You have the Crusades, the Inquisition, the christening of the norse (vikings), slavelabour in old Egypt, terrorist attacks in recent history and basicly any kind of violence based upon a belief.

  • So perhaps I am being presumptious here, but I felt like the song was definitely speaking about Islamic extremism. Anyone else think the same, or if no, could they correct me?

  • @TheMothmanb11Show its about religious extremism in general i believe.

  • @chaveznieves - completely agree with you....Islamic is not the only religion have an extremist..in history, all religion does!! I am muslim & peace be upon us all...Dream Theater rocks!!! ^_^

  • @chaveznieves i think that its mainly about the crusades

  • @chaveznieves yeah, that and religious intollorance

  • @chaveznieves specifically the waco incident

  • @chaveznieves actually i'd say its specifically against the middle east. Judaism and Islam. As a parallel of what Stalin said years ago, as long as the two exist, there will be war.

  • @TheMothmanb11Show The song's about an extremist christian cult that brainwashed people to kill non believers. There are lots of similarities with the cult described in the song and muslim extremist groups; all religious extremists use the same ideas, just modified slightly for their particular religion.

  • @Spermwhales93 true enough

  • @TheMothmanb11Show

YES! i sad the same thing on another video of this. If you look at the song Sarcrificed Sons it makes sense that DT would make one like this.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheMothmanb11Show -Actually its about a religious cult down South in an older America in which there was a self-proclaimed cult leader that was killing people for his religion- 'in the name of god' if you will.

  • @TheMothmanb11Show I think it refers to all religious extremism for example it reminded me the crusades

  • @TheMothmanb11Show well id say the general idea of extremsm, but "Sacrificed Sons" of Octavarium deals more with islamic extremist ideals using lyrics like "Is gods True love an act of hate?" and more

  • @TheMothmanb11Show

    nope

    actualy a bit yes

it talks about all religious extremism

and it includes the islamic extremism as well as the cristian and jew

  • @TheMothmanb11Show

Else they would have called this song "In the name of Allah" i think ;)

  • @TheMothmanb11Show --yeah it's about all religious extremism. From Islamic to Christian( Al-qaeda-->KKK)

  • @TheMothmanb11Show And if nobody's mentioned this yet, religious extremism across history too, like the Crusades.

  • dream theaters heaviest album by far.

  • @Drkingzzz and Black Clouds and Silver Linings

  • @Drkingzzz Usually some people think their first album is the heaviest.

  • @mctworm TOT is definately their heaviest album to date, BC & SL is nowhere near as heavy.

  • the begin kinda sounds like nothing else matters.. but it still rock much better!!!

  • I like that their songs are so long that they need to be in 2 parts. :)

  • Lady GaGa in the Related Videos is Offensive.

  • @perrottafamily and where the fuck is lady gaga, what are you talking about

  • @perrottafamily umm different music? cannot be compared! she is a great artist in her own type of music...dream theater is amazing in their own style and type of music soo...

  • @perrottafamily hahaha havent noticed

  • Comment removed

  • Train of thought is my favourite album

  • @rock0god You think it is.. But try comparing it with Metropolis pt. 2! That album blew my mind O:

I mean, train of thoughts is awesome. But Metropolis is just beautiful XD

  • @rueben112

what gives you the right to tell him that his opinion is wrong

  • @chaveznieves go get aids and fuck your family and then die all together plz

  • @rueben112

LOL your so angry! its rather cute :)

  • @chaveznieves well i did say plz

  • @rueben112 ohhh i see since you "politely" asked me to contract an uncurable killing disease with which i would use to infect my family by means of incestual coitus; the end result being my entire family dies from the same disease...that makes it ok. :)

  • @chavenieves what an epic reply. you win the internet!

  • @Equipe3v

yay i needed one of those!

  • @rueben112 fuck man settle down its all opinionated no one is right or wrong here just listen to the song.

  • @rueben112 just fuck off,

  • @AlexMcshred6505plus go wash your mouth!

btw, do you look justin bieber's father? Because you sound like douchebag.

We're all obviously enjoying this great music and people like you just ruin it.

  • @rueben112 i simly object to any-one impliying the idea of aids as tool for the destruction of life. and if the most creative insult you can think of using your some-how vast knolage of my self is to compare me to the the father of some semminly irelivent and random child (atmitidly talletless, spoiled, falsely riched twat) but that's the ill-educated, narrow-minded retard that you are,

i don't what to start a childish youtube comment debate, i'm just going to say the truth, your a stupid cunt.
