nice vid, my only question is would you also try a backwards redondo if you missed your first "defang the snake" strike? or is it your preference to always pull back and follow up with that downward strike after the hand has passed?
Wow awsome video and concept. I had some questions about further aplications for different weapon styles. For example could you use the same concept with some of the chinese weapons like swords?
Pretty awesome, thanks for the post... I prefer handguns personally, but as a BJJ practitioner of 10 years I have to give the credit where it's due- NICE VIDEO, bro. Thanks for the post!
IMOA if you aim for the lower portion of the long weapons on a diagnal forehand strike with an opposing forehand diagnal strike your target becomes larger than aiming for just the hand and you acomplish 2 things you reduse the oncoming momentum and the chance of striking the hand is better because if you dont imideatly strike the hand, your weapon will ride down his blade and right onto his hand.
Excellent discussion of things to keep in mind while trying to defang the snake. Too often the concept is only shown using what some of us call "demo Kali." That's fine to start with, but practical application of this concept requires some modifications, as you've point out. I have found that any countermove in Kali works better if you have first slowed down his attack with an initial block/deflection, then attack the second strike coming in. Excellent job, guys!
Very good video. I would add though that another myth circulating is one that smaller knives do less damage than bigger ones upon contact. That is not always the case. Defanging the snake with a smaller blade requires a good sense of zoning and footwork and (as you stated) is not usually meant to be a "fight ender." It usually leads into a finishing thrust, closing of distance, etc. Keep up the good work. I noticed the Atienza trainers, are you a training group?
Hey BladeNstick, I noticed the Atienza trainers as well as the way he transfer the trainer to another individual.
As a Sayoc kali player, I can only conclude that, he in some way has contacts with both the Sayoc's and Atienza's. For instance the waving guard that is a Atienza concept found in evolution one. Where I train, we are an official Sayoc and Atienza kali school. Nontheless, he is doing truly an excellent job.
Really appreciated the clarity of the demonstration and explanation, thankyou.

good video explaining valid points. Defanging is only the beginning you need to have other things in your tool box as well.
