  • @fx4ranger2002 I have a 1996 s10 with 245,000 miles. Only issue has been the fuel pump went out at 210,000.

  • S-10's rock stop hating and go watch a ford video if y'all don't like S-10's why ya watching a video of one lol

  • I don't care who says what, and i aint gonna defend myself from an idiotic opinionated Ford fan. I like Chevys. I learned to drive in an 86 Silverado with over 300k miles on it. only ever had to replace the clutch. I drive an S10 that's been to hell and back... a couple times... Never had a problem with it. So good for you Fx4Ranger2002. I'm glad your truck is the shit, now go hate somewhere else where someone cares.

  • Hey where'd you get the spotlight that's mounted there with your mirror? I've been looking to get one for my ZR2 but haven't had any luck finding them anywhere.

  • @dsasquatch16 its just a Unity spotlight off a police car. They are on eBay.

  • I live in the south and its full of die hard chevy fans who have zr2s and their always fixing them; but yet they still love their trucks and think their the baddest. My 02 Ranger Fx4 4.0L has never given me any trouble. Its got a wider, bulkier cab than the zr2 and sits up just as high. Its got offroad shocks and stock skidplates. My buddys got a zr2 and im always pulling him out of the mud when we go wheeling. Rangers/Explorers have way more quality than blazer/s10

  • @Fx4Ranger2002 naw he just dosent know how to drive

  • @Fx4Ranger2002 but a ZR2 pickup/blazer will always look better then a ranger/explorer

  • @Fx4Ranger2002 Is that why they call explorers, exploders?

  • @rambosambo95 My post had nothing to do with a Ford Explorer dumbass and neither does the term "Exploders." That terms refers to the firestone destinations that came stock on the Explorers back in the late 90s and early 00s and the treads on the tires were seperating from the belts and causing blowouts which resulted in the firestone recall on Ford SUVS and trucks. Look on the road next time your out, you will see about 20 Rangers and explorers for every 1 s10 and blazer

  • @rambosambo95 This is because the Rangers and Explorers from 1990+ have outlasted the majority of s10s and blazers. My cousins 97 blazer he bought two years ago had 115k miles on it as well as starting and idling issues. Now it was 119k and it doesnt shift right, the trucks falling apart inside and out due to poor build quality, the transmission leaks, it overheats, the 4x4 doesnt work...problem after problem. My Ranger has 175k no problems and it runs and looks new and it beat it to shit

  • @Fx4Ranger2002 problem is its a ford

  • Hmm... typical chevy

  • @Sk8boy297 Lets see you get traction on sheets of ice dumbass

  • dude was your front diff broke in this video yo?

  • Do you think it would be possible to set up the s10 2002 2.2l LS? with the zr2 kit?

  • @erikblazer13 No sir... you bought what you bought, these are straight outta the GM plant ZR2s!

  • @RocafellaAF1 i dont know about that, they all have the same setup but the ZR2 and ZR4's all have extra parts compared to a LS, my front roters even have the gears for the front drive, i have the room for it.... so i believe its a Yes sir

  • @erikblazer13 No, its not. Zr2s have a different frame, you'd have to buy a Zr2 frame from god knows where (probably nowhere) or just get a Zr2

  • @playaninja1 Ohhh ok, that makes more since, the way every thing looks under the hood looks almost the same.

  • hey i bet the waters cold

  • soooo you were in 2wd because of the differentials? that makes me feel like my zr2 woulda done well. nice truck tho! like the bumper/ winch... thats next on my list

  • is your truck a standerd?

  • nice truck!!!

im trying to find a cheep 4x4 anything. preferbally a truck( looked at jeeps too) but prices have gone up. I never really looked at s10's till now and they are in my price range. I like full size trucks better but i had a ranger and that worked for me so this would be nice!!

  • what do you think of the ford ranger fx4

  • Nice looking truck, what you got done to it? Tires? What Size?

  • well if the ice wasnt there you could have hit it at about 60 and prolly made it most the way across

  • Where in wharton was this?

  • @mcappeta1 I don't know exactly where since I was following a Jeep club but we met at the Atsion ranger station, so somewhere around there

  • @atkinc088 did you find out the problem why the diffs wouldnt lock in? it might have been a vacume line popped off or something

  • Is this all stock?

  • @swaggerg5 yes

  • nice

  • I HATE electric shift 4X4

  • @elitecssplayer why, manual is hillbilly and iv never had any probs with any of my chev trucks neither have my friends. push a button and ur ready

  • @MrFubs really, no problems?

  • @MrFubs nop not at all, althoi heard fords have probs with theirs

  • i have a 2003 gmc sanoma. can u turn a stock two wheel drive into a four wheel drive will the parts match up

  • I wouldn't blame you for having to be pulled out there. Especially if the differentials didn't lock.

  • i know what ya mean my dam thing only works when it wants to

  • i have the same truck and ive never had a problem with gettin my differentals to lock in...thats weird

  • nice video guys

  • wait do s10's have diff lockers

  • that guy shouldnt stand so close to the tow line, if it were to snap you'd be finding his legs 100 feet down the trail..

  • 4 hi and get on the gas Nancy.

  • I was always taught to let the Winch do all the work and NOT to gas it. Something with the tension, then you get stuck and the winch continues pulling, then tightens again and could cause damage to the winch, or break the cable.

  • that ice was thick

  • looks like u dont have 4x4 even on

  • Ha.. the G80 failed on you too huh? damn gov bomb...

  • I got a zr2 just like that man and I can go through some tough shit but I ain't never been through fuckin ice

  • how come all 4 dont lock up?

  • dude ,please learn how to drive offroad, lmao

  • @NStone79 have you ever driven through water with 5 to 6 inch thick ice blocks? yeah not the easiest stuff to gain traction on. I certainly didn't have any in the front on the sheet of ice and I wasn't going to dig myself into a rut into the rear which ended up happening anyway. monday morning quarterback all you want but you weren't there

  • @atkinc088 I agree man. ive been in your situation. besides, i personally like drivin slow so i can watch the wheels climb over shit xD

  • @atkinc088 he obviously lives in california

  • @NStone79 you my friend need to suck a dick

  • @NStone79 no dude in a tj no one would even attempt to drive because it will break when you pull up in front this road

chevy s10 any and every day...

  • @NStone79 Are you stupid? do you see the big ice blocks in the water..?

  • @NStone79 tj's are for fags get a yj

  • Even though it didnt make it out under its own power, still a very beautiful and beastly truck.

  • Comment removed

  • get real get a ford!!!!

  • what do you mean by diff. what do you think about manual hub locks?

  • When done in these conditions, make sure you inspect CV boots. Ice is sharp and can tear these up.

I sorta did that in rain soaked snow pack at sub temps.

I made it through 2 foot crap, but then it never occurred to me at the moment how brutal knife edged the frozen layers are.

So, next mod is 1/2" thick rubber belting I have now for snow blower paddles and make guards for these babies.

    Cheers

Hopefully your G80 is repaired now.

  • Yeah everything is okay after that run. The G80 works when it wants to. The only thing that I broke going through that was the Flowmaster catback kit came apart at the outlet to the tailpipe because the hangers and clamps finally rusted through. It didn't help either that the kit was for a regular S10 and not a ZR2 and apparently that caused issues in the placement of the hangers. You can hear it come apart right around 0:50

  • What a huge difference the Flowmaster proved to be. I wirefed in my own after 2 Napa crap kept blowing baffles. I got tired of people walking up "Hey, is that a rod about to blow?" That's how loud the baffles would hit inside when they broke loose.

    Cheers

  • Brave test, now to get it inside before stuff freezes up if temp drops.

    I have basically the same.

The GMC Sonoma. You can view it at Flickr.

But this crawl on ice is almost impossible for any rig w/o snow chains locked or not.

We've had snowmobiles & 4 wheelers get stuck in this stuff on Minnesota lakes trying to get off.

    Ice is a serious challenge.

See Iceland 4x4's. They do this for a living on ice.

  • One Iceland member mobriha is a must see.

    Cheers

  • @Philscbx

you're exactly right man. Ice is something i will never try to go through again with my truck. You cannot under estimate ice I try to tell my buddys that just stick to mud, ice is something you dont want to mess with luckly this guy had someone to pull him out with a winch.

  • Nice truck, yeah no front limited slip. I assume you are a zr2usa member and already know about the possible replacements for the stock G80 limited slip.

My G80 locks pretty well (so far), so it always has 3 wheels spinning at least. lol

  • good video, and what light do you have on your driver side view mirror, and where did you get it at

  • I have one of these trucks. It sucks. My 1978 F-150 with 400,000 miles on it is cheaper to operate than the Chevy.

  • Yeah, I had no idea what a bad machine I was buying when I got my '99 ZR2. It was a regular cab, 5-speed. I did nothing to it at all except for a set of Mickey Thompson MTZ's, and that frigging thing will go damn near anywhere! By far the most impressive stock pickup I've ever seen. I can follow my wheelin buddy's Rubicon TJ around on all but the gnarliest, tightest, highest-flexing trails (stupid IFS), and he's lifted a bit with 33's. I love these trucks.

  • i bet a jeep had to pull it out haha

  • ever get them to lock?

  • I know the rear used to lock but now I think the G80 has failed. The front doesn't lock so I'm told

  • bro i have the same exact truck!!!

its a BEAST and i live in mexico !!!lol

    :P

  • That thing is a BOSS!

  • in his defense, i have never seen anyone trying to go mudding through ice!

  • If I were that guy in the white truck, I wouldnt have been such a pussy on the throttle. JUST FLOOR THE DAMN THING

  • I was trying not to rip the plastic lower valance off on the ice blocks. But yeah, I probably could have easily romped through :D

  • tepends how you drive dude. if you know you can get almost any vehicle through resonable terrain.

  • Um, chevy is the best for offroad.

  • Gotta love the Eaton G80 =P

  • badass s10 > ice water

  • haha screw mudding lets go icing

  • you should throw a heavy jacket or put a cable sleeve on that winch cable so if it snaps it falls to the ground. that way it wont whip out and hit someone

  • Next time modulate the brake pedal while you give it gas.. This will grab the free spinning wheel and start to transfer power back and forth to the tires.

  • its times like this you wish for auto locking instead of manual

  • These are auto locking hubs.. Manuals are when you get out and lock them. These don't have them stock.

  • differential idiot. not hubs.

  • On my 2000 Chevy s10 the stock rear differential locks up when it senses a little slipping. It came that way stock. I almost never have to put it in 4 wheel drive, i amazes people what it can do in just 2 wheel drive.

  • is that ice?

  • yup

  • Ive only got a 2wd s10. seeing this makes me soo jealous. what you like about that zr2 that stands out

  • The stock front diff in all s10, blazer, jimmy, sonoma is just open. Rear is usually G80 locking. Sometimes my driver front doesn't spin in 4hi or 4lo unless i lay into it

  • What aftermarket locker did you install in the front diff? The Powertraxx Locker is about the only one I know that is designed to work in that front differential.

The front diff from the factory is an open differential, there is no LSD or locker installed. Rear received a Eaton G80 Gov-Lock.

  • the front diff on fully locks in low range in 4 high is is still a limited slip

  • yeah it was in 4lo the whole time.

  • Wrong. The front diff does not have a locker. Only the rear. Your front will not lock up unless you have an aftermarket one.

  • well that explains everything lol

  • Hah, I lol'd

  • y isnt your driver side front tire spinning. like its not engaged

  • the differential wasn't locking like it should

  • damn that sucks
