@christoir246 the thing that makes the hair on ya arms stang up when you hear some one mentiona song, place, surname you know, when you say "slaint mo charra" without knowing it. the ability to drink guiness like a dememted fish. and the way your foot starts tapping all on its own when you hear any folk song.
but most of all you know the words to the rocky road to dublin!
you know, i listen too many different kinds of music but i honestly can say that nothing touches me more than irish music. the stories ... the melodies (even the instruments) are touching me more than anything else. I don't want no thumbs up, nor am I looking for anyone's appreciation. It's just what I truly feel about this...
@deejaystrider Whats all that got to do with this song? And if you don't like it here in this country please feel free to go home, you are a typical keyboard warrior. I am born and bred in County Durham and I love The Dubliners and I love Irish music.

@Labeo88 aye. didn't know it was 20 years, but i knew he was kepin himself dry for a while near the end, bless his soul. But that doesn't mean he won't get drunk and sing mountain dew in heaven!
Did anyone know that this song was about the Auld Triangle Mattress company that supplied mattresses to kilmainham Gaol!!!! now listen to the song again :)
People who hate this song and this version should hand in their Irish passport and renounce their Irish citzenship! Our fair country does not need people who dont appreciate its heritage and beauty. Luke Kelly is a national hero, echoing the voices of many generations and if you don't like him then get off this page and get out of Ireland! Frankly the DKM version is rubbish, only liked by people who have no taste and want to start a meaningless fight since their own lives have nothing worthwhile
This gave me chills. Such a voice such, it was a sad day when he passed, as it was when Ronnie went a few years ago. But you know that Luke was there to greet his friend with open arms when Ronnie arrived to the other side. And you can also bet that they are still singing right now! R.I.P Luke Kelly and Ronnie Drew.
I sang this at an open mic session at the Macquarie Arms hotel in Windsor (Australia), to a lot of people who obviously had never heard of the song before, or of Brendan and Dominic Behan. It brought the house down.
Oh my sweet Jesus this is who and what we Irish people really are Poets and musicians and to hell with the celtic tiger and all the misery it brought and in the immortal words of my Grandfather "and fuck the begrudgers. Eire Go Brath
i was born in the wrong generation, 14 years of age while everyone talks about beiber, 50 cent, rhianna and all the other CUNTS! they dont care about the country that just ten years ago was swarming with evil british soldiers, and the streets they walk on every day which once saw combat (Belfast in case ur wondrin) the world could benefit from music like this, but no. its the time of pop and rap. as such the music industry as of the 90s, is dead to me. *spits*
The triangle in the title refers to the large metal triangle which was beaten daily in Mountjoy Prison to waken the inmates. Its no longer in use but is still there. Dominic Behan who wrote the song for his brother Brendan Behan.

this place is a bit of a time warp, static displays, the way it once was. The dummies used to be motor driven but after the 1970s they were deactivated. Seems someone has been 'painting England green' the way the Irish claim, every engine, every welder, every figurehead is daubed green no matter what color it was at first. But the interesting thing here is the big budget given this place, a bit like Red Bay in Canada! :)
@SuckMyVEVO Dropkick is an Aussie slang term for a moron, and I must say they are well named (for this song anyway). what a man, what a voice......no miming here. how many singers could do this today? and the sickening thing is people look up to contestants on X-Factor!!! this is real talent. if luke kelly was french, american or english he would be a national icon and constantly played on radio.....for most of us myself included we didnt appreciate him enough till he was gone. i hate the likes of bono 'trying' to sing or be like him......NOT a hope rip luke
@MrRamblinfever I sang this yesterday in a talent show. There were a couple of shocked faces when I finished singing. No one had heard of the song before, or even heard of the Dubliners. I sang with with a voice almost similar to Lukes voice. I think I was tied with the two dancing girls who had performed just before me. Anyways, I have never heard a voice sound so powerful since I first heard Luke sing. I'm just saying that there is someone who might be able to compare to Luke's voice someday.

Find it so funny because they look like a country band with the long hair and beards but still really amazing stuff....great harmonies.

what a man, what a voice......no miming here. how many singers could do this today? and the sickening thing is people look up to contestants on X-Factor!!! this is real talent. if luke kelly was french, american or english he would be a national icon and constantly played on radio.....for most of us myself included we didnt appreciate him enough till he was gone. i hate the likes of bono 'trying' to sing or be like him......NOT a hope rip luke
