  • what a man

  • THE BEST BALLAD IN THE WORLD

  • @brianmorrissey86 the best of the best, always remember this one, because, no doubt this is luke kelly and dubliners at their peak.

  • I wonder along the Royal canal nearly everyday and sometimes I imagine I can hear this tune and d'owl jingle jangle!

  • Just cos u became an irish citizen does not make u Irish, being Irish is a feeling in your soul that cant be described,

  • @christoir246 the thing that makes the hair on ya arms stang up when you hear some one mentiona song, place, surname you know, when you say "slaint mo charra" without knowing it. the ability to drink guiness like a dememted fish. and the way your foot starts tapping all on its own when you hear any folk song.

but most of all you know the words to the rocky road to dublin!

    slainte

  • It's a fair sign of a song when they don't even need music to perform a classic

  • @paxcon78 well said

  • Can't be that for harmony..there is no better song for inspiration.

  • you know, i listen too many different kinds of music but i honestly can say that nothing touches me more than irish music. the stories ... the melodies (even the instruments) are touching me more than anything else. I don't want no thumbs up, nor am I looking for anyone's appreciation. It's just what I truly feel about this...

  • Wow..... I thought Ragland road was his best!

  • @gucciie1 then you have not heard the shoals of herring! (ok ile admit raglan road was one if his best!)

  • You can't help crying at that chorus

  • After all these years it still gets me

  • Gives me chills. Luke makes this feel so human.

  • Great singers, great beards, great men.

  • Fuck Damien Dempsy....this is the ultimate version. Merry Christmas Eire.

  • @SuperKingabs I want it at me wedding.

  • @deejaystrider Whats all that got to do with this song? And if you don't like it here in this country please feel free to go home, you are a typical keyboard warrior. I am born and bred in County Durham and I love The Dubliners and I love Irish music.

  • Luke doesn´t need a mike...he blew your head off with his voice. Awesome!

  • I hope one day they make a film of Luke Kelly life. A great person to play him is Ewan Mcgregor. Both have good voice and great depth to their souls. Long live freedom.

  • My Parents and my whole family are Irish, unfortunately i was born in England,i have an Irish passport and live in Scotland near ma wee girl and have one FUCKED UP accent and when some Scot ever calls me an English Cunt, they get a fuckin wesht of Ireland do in,call me allsorts but no a "BRIT!" lol

  • I love the bit of a smirk Luke gives at .35. He looks so happy. = )

  • This better be what heaven sounds like when I get up there, or I'm going to be sorely disappointed!

  • @irkofan Well if Luke's up there it should sound a little better than before he got there.

  • @irkofan Hopefully it'll be Luke leading the choir and Castlecomer singing along with him! Listen to Castlecomer's cover, it's unbelievable.

  • he was surely the greatest . we lost a lot when we lost luke , but he will live on forever on our internet , miss him ,A but we will always have his songs and spirit ... paul.

  • All I hope is that God lets whiskey n gin in heaven, because Luke, Ronnie, and I are getting together.

  • @RhinoKlox ronnie wasn't drinking for the last 20 years :)

  • @Labeo88 aye. didn't know it was 20 years, but i knew he was kepin himself dry for a while near the end, bless his soul. But that doesn't mean he won't get drunk and sing mountain dew in heaven!

  • Amazing!!! Awe inspiring!!! Fantastic performance!!! Speechless!!! (almost)

  • Magnificent !

  • Luke Kelly was a fuckin incredible singer.

  • @santana26491 he was a fuckin incredible human, all around :-D

  • Seems that a requirement for joining the band is having an awesome beard!

  • Aww what a tune... <3

  • Did anyone know that this song was about the Auld Triangle Mattress company that supplied mattresses to kilmainham Gaol!!!! now listen to the song again :)

  • @fryersy1 Bullshit?? :L :L

  • People who hate this song and this version should hand in their Irish passport and renounce their Irish citzenship! Our fair country does not need people who dont appreciate its heritage and beauty. Luke Kelly is a national hero, echoing the voices of many generations and if you don't like him then get off this page and get out of Ireland! Frankly the DKM version is rubbish, only liked by people who have no taste and want to start a meaningless fight since their own lives have nothing worthwhile

  • @MonkeyFunky89 Could not have said this better meself!

  • @MonkeyFunky89 dat man has some voice

  • @MonkeyFunky89 Maybey the could give there citizenship to me, because I would like te be Irish :P

  • this is beautiful!!

  • This gave me chills. Such a voice such, it was a sad day when he passed, as it was when Ronnie went a few years ago. But you know that Luke was there to greet his friend with open arms when Ronnie arrived to the other side. And you can also bet that they are still singing right now! R.I.P Luke Kelly and Ronnie Drew.

  • New Irish band CASTLECOMER do an AMAZING a capella version of this song.

Check them out by typing in "The Auld Triangle - Castlecomer"

  • R.I.P irelands greatest singer.

  • 9 people that are goin to hell

  • powerful

  • I sang this at an open mic session at the Macquarie Arms hotel in Windsor (Australia), to a lot of people who obviously had never heard of the song before, or of Brendan and Dominic Behan. It brought the house down.

  • It is music like this that stops me completely hating my homeland. This is the spirit of the irish people.

  • @fatchick41 hate away and stay away we don't give a shit.

  • @dnyz123 Ah unfortunate Ireland still has so many dickheads.

  • right...if any of yous ...jaysus..i forget what I was giong to say. Yes are all...right..eh ?? what ye talking about

  • Oh my sweet Jesus this is who and what we Irish people really are Poets and musicians and to hell with the celtic tiger and all the misery it brought and in the immortal words of my Grandfather "and fuck the begrudgers. Eire Go Brath

  • It was said that if Brendan Behan ever opened his mouth in a pub, one could expect a bar of "The Auld Triangle" ...or that morning's breakfast !

  • Greatest rendition of this song EVER

  • The ultimate performer. just came across a cover by CASTLECOMER, worth a look if your in the mood for some harmonies, but when are we not?

  • Nine complete cunts need death.

  • @Shagrat65 wtf fool,explain your post.

  • @saoirse2011 : The nine people who thumbed this down mate

  • @Shagrat65 apologies mate, too much booze, you are quite correct.

  • @saoirse2011 : Its alright mate. If you thought I was bashing Luke it couldn't be further from the truth. I love the man

  • pure class

  • i was born in the wrong generation, 14 years of age while everyone talks about beiber, 50 cent, rhianna and all the other CUNTS! they dont care about the country that just ten years ago was swarming with evil british soldiers, and the streets they walk on every day which once saw combat (Belfast in case ur wondrin) the world could benefit from music like this, but no. its the time of pop and rap. as such the music industry as of the 90s, is dead to me. *spits*

  • @2doctoma Good on Ya kid, You keep it real.

  • @quinner2512 dropkick isnt screaming, like at all

  • @quinner2512 they are not screaming, like at all

  • @quinner2512 tehee, Dropkick isnt a scream, i 100% understand what they say.

  • The triangle in the title refers to the large metal triangle which was beaten daily in Mountjoy Prison to waken the inmates. Its no longer in use but is still there. Dominic Behan who wrote the song for his brother Brendan Behan.

  • The best singer this world will ever see.

    RIP Luke. Thanks for everything!

  • This is serious harmonising.

  • Sounds amazing for the fact that its done acapella

  • whoever the 9 are that voted dislike need help

  • R.I.P songs, voices and sessions like this.. Ireland will never see the same again.. a shame really :(

  • R.I.P songs, voices and sessions like this..

  • Dropkick's Version is WAYY WAYY BETTER!!

  • @SuckMyVEVO eh no. not in any universe.

I dont care if youre a death metal screamo fan....Lukes version is IT. Period.

DKM version gave me a headache.

  • @joeygsmom i respect your opinion but, this version is so horrible to me. I can not stand it, it is too slow. DKM all the way!

  • @SuckMyVEVO OK thats your feelings... but dont expect many people to agree with that in this channel lol.

  • @SuckMyVEVO Never in a million years....Luke Kelly was the finest singer of all time and nobody, repeat nobody will ever better this version.

  • @SuckMyVEVO Are you insane? DKM's version is like a Pogues clone, but without Shane. Fucking dreadful.

  • @timhately09 DKM is 100x better this is shit.

  • @SuckMyVEVO Dropkick is an Aussie slang term for a moron, and I must say they are well named (for this song anyway). If you think this is 100x better than Luke's (or any other version) you obviously belong in this company. Some songs are improved by a different interpretation, but this is not one of them.

  • @timhately09 this version makes me want to stab myself, if there was a hate button instead of a dislike, i would make 1000s of accounts just to show how much i think this song sucks...

    DKM

  • @SuckMyVEVO Maybe you could do us all a favor and stab yourself, it would then save us from further imbecilic comments such as this spray of infantile shite. Perhaps you should have a hearing test, or better still, a brain scan. You seem to be a minority. Luke was not the finest singer of all time, but his version ot this song shits all over DKM's, and I am certain that they would agree.

  • @timhately09 DKM is simply better. END

  • @SuckMyVEVO I think everyone now knows who won this debate, your latest comment is just like a slammed door on an argument - satisfying, but proving fuck-all.

  • @timhately09 DKM is fun to listen to. DKM makes me happy, this guy makes me want to punch some one, he is just so boring.

  • @SuckMyVEVO If you only want happy Irish songs, listen to the lyrics of Percy French. 40 love my way - your serve.

  • @timhately09 Personally I think Luke was the finest singer of all time. Best singer I've ever heard anyway

  • @tony10396861 The finest singer of all time is possibly a subjective argument, but (I think) the best interpreter of traditional Irish and Celtic songs. Ní bheidh muid buíochas a fheiceáil arís.

  • @timhately09 true. a lot of the irish singer of the time said luke and the boys ruined their jobs and trade they were soo good! i wish i could have met the man. ive had a drink with john barney (mad as a march hare!) patsey and sean but i would have given my left nut to meet the great man

    biocass as alba

  • @nipplebrady1988 'Tis good to hear from someone of such obvious taste and discrimination. These songs will live forever. Thank God for YouTube. As an aside, check out on YouTube "Moreton Bay" sung by Cloudstreet, an Aussie duo. The tune is the Irish song Boolavogue. Great song. Lots of Aussie traditional songs are based on Irish airs. Let me know what you think.

  • Jesus cant figure out how this has 9 dislikes. How can you not like Luke KellyThe man sings with passion and feels each word he sings..An chuid eile i síochána Lúcás, tá tú ceann de na sarú agus beidh riamh a bheidh forgotten.Your ceol beo ar aghaidh go deo..R.I.P

  • kinda off topic here folks but do any of ye agree that the ballad of ronnie drew was the biggest insult ever to the man? i wont insult anyone but its a shame that its a song associated with his passing....am i alone in thinking this?

  • @MrRamblinfever

i dont think it was an insult, but it was a terrible song.

  • Holy fuck this is awesome.

  • for all the lads dat i know ho are doing time keep the head up u know ho u are and u know me

  • 9 people arent in the womens prison

  • Best singer of all time. spent many a year in my nans house, my uncle john sang with Luke Kelly in his room quality.

  • @wilsongary12

    Lucky man!!

  • Just epic!

  • LEGEND= Luke kelly

  • goose bumps everytime i listen

  • Goosebumps. God bless Ireland.

  • @Irishberry96 His name is Barney McKenna.

  • GREAT, ЧЕТНИЦИ ! :D

  • AMAZZZZZZZZZZING.

  • just amazing!! .... as an Italian I am only sorry that I can't understand very well the lyrics without translation

  • luke kelly nd ronnie drew voices of ireland

  • ich bein ein luke

  • Find it so funny because they look like a country band with the long hair and beards but still really amazing stuff....great harmonies.

  • what a man, what a voice......no miming here. how many singers could do this today? and the sickening thing is people look up to contestants on X-Factor!!! this is real talent. if luke kelly was french, american or english he would be a national icon and constantly played on radio.....for most of us myself included we didnt appreciate him enough till he was gone. i hate the likes of bono 'trying' to sing or be like him......NOT a hope rip luke

  • @MrRamblinfever

I AGREE MY FRIEND TOO MANY WANNABIES HAVE CHANGED THE VOICE OF

REAL IRISH MUSIC BROUGHT FROM HISTORY OF IRELAND

  • @MrRamblinfever I appreciated him when he was alive he was and still is an icon to me the finest folk voice ever bless you Luke

  • @MrRamblinfever well said :)

  • @MrRamblinfever I sang this yesterday in a talent show. There were a couple of shocked faces when I finished singing. No one had heard of the song before, or even heard of the Dubliners. I sang with with a voice almost similar to Lukes voice. I think I was tied with the two dancing girls who had performed just before me. Anyways, I have never heard a voice sound so powerful since I first heard Luke sing. I'm just saying that there is someone who might be able to compare to Luke's voice someday.

  • Fuckin Hell!! Unreal!

  • luke kelly one day i wish to be as big as your self R.I.P.

  • @mcdrcon 15inches apparently.....

  • After 1000 listens, it still sends shivers up me spine.

  • @guinnesstrail

Same over here, I guess it has to feel like this just because such music never leaves you and your body :-D

  • @guinnesstrail ... and I bet you never spent one one night on the wings

  • @guinnesstrail thats cause your listening o it on a 10,000 watt hi fi ! lol
