Fucking rediculous what goes on in some peoples minds. "Oh everyone likes this song, even I do because it's a great song, but... Fuck it, I wanna act tough... Dislike"
Since you're a christian, i just thought i'd point out some other songs that knock religion. (there are a LOT of SM songs that do this). These include 40 days, which pokes fun at Noah's Ark, or Mephisto's Cafe, which is anti-religious in general.
i still can't believe how this band is sooo good! its unbelievable. saw them live in orlando @ the house of blues, they are ridiculous, too good!. theyre not even ska anymore, lot of influences in their music mixed there not only ska and punk
I love this song, the beat alone is amazing, and the lyrics are just deep and mystifying. I don't know if it's about religion, but what matters is that this is quality music! Ska is seriously underrated, this stuff is awesome! SM for the win. :)
My religion, is god. I believe in god as a figure who can speak to us and help us, though i believe the bible is bull shit.My religion is my god(and streetlight).
I can't believe you guys are all arguing about religion and atheism right now. I know the song can be interpreted to be dealing with it, but you are in the presence of a fantastic musical composition ... so talk about how awesome this song, album, and band are.
I don't think the lyrics are necessarily about religion. To me it sounds like he's talking to a friend who's been made a victim of prejudice. Friend successfully commits suicide after repeated attempts to stop him, and everybody's reconciling in the wake of death.
@RdSoxFan618 You're right, the sound's too awesome to make a successful interpretation. I guess the only way we'll really know is if we ask the band itself.
Maybe that's what the song means to you. Everyone interprets the music they hear according to their own perspective. That being the case, this song has many meanings depending on who you ask. But unless you are one of the band members then I don't buy it.
You seem to make a comment on religion in all your song video posts. This isn't a religious band, you have to realize, in fact, none of their songs look at religion in a positive way. If you do want a religious band, you could always listen to five iron frenzy.
Okay so, you people say this song is about God and getting rid of sins or some bullshit. Like many people have said a friend of the bands commited suicide. That is what all the songs are about, like the sadest song for example. So what if they say back is bleeding, doesn't mean whips hitting Jesus. Anyway the band is Athiest. And in the song he says " I don't care who you are or what you've done, everybody is equal". That shows "Hey everyone one makes mistakes, but don't take your own life.
It's not actually about Jesus. It metaphorically references him, but the song surrounds a friend's suicide (like most of the album).
This time, though, it's a man committing suicide in vain, and the friend's bitter response to it. Examples: "You brag of your indecency like a monkey beats its chest" , "and if you think taking your life will set you free, you've got something to learn, it's called humility", "I can hear you laughing from your grave", etc, etc.
I never understood why Jesus would get himself tortured just to forgive others. Seems illogical to me. Can't he just forgive everyone instead of pointlessly putting himself through pain?
Read the lyrics and imagine the crucifixion of Jesus, as well as His teachings. "That'll be the day when the sun goes down. The angels may weep, but I'll hear no sounds." The Bible claims that everything went dark at his death. Also "Your back is bleeding." He was whipped 39 times and tradition says it was mostly on His back. Also "Everyone's forgiven now we're saved. Everybody's sins absolved." Clearly this is the redemption of sins. If you're still confused, send me a message.
Seems more of like a song about someone who has messed up his life by hanging around stupid people, and is figuring out how to live, rather than christianity.
@Robocrat Let people have their own religious opinions, man. But in general we shouldn't even be talking about religion, but enjoying this great music.

Streetlight are obviously athiests - almost every song is denouncing theology. I don't know how anyone who claims to be a fan could not know.
