I heard this on Ray-man's rarities show (cool 101.7, Duluth, MN) while driving a taxi 8-9 years ago--never forgot this tune--thanks for posting, it's a great song!
I saw a Rock band that played at my grammar school in 1967. The singer, slightly older than me, made me promise to stop the bad people who were coming to destroy Rock 'n Roll. I kept my promise. He thought everyone his age was going to die in Vietnam, so I guess it was up to US, the Middle Boomers. Lucky for him (well, somewhat lucky), I did love rock 'n roll. Very much.
The poor kid thought he was going to die in Vietnam, he thought everyone his age was going to die in Vietnam. That's why he said that. We were young enough that we might escape. When my Cohort, or whatever, got a little older, we went out and stopped the Vietnam War! Because Nixon didn't like Rock 'n Roll. A few days after I was drafted, the War ended, it was over. I burned my draft card, I was screaming at the top of my lungs. God rewarded me, I'm not on that Big Black Wall. Rock 'n Roll!
And in the Future Rock n Roll Will Stand HIGHER AND HIGHER, soaring dizzily above the clouds, above Everest, above Everything, the Whole Wide World! And a RED EYE will be on Top of It! And this will be, and it will be Forever, and it will be for Always! IT WILL, IT WILL!
In memoriam and tribute to General Norman Johnson [May 23, 1941 - Oct 13, 2010]. Lead singer of the Showmen, R&B vocal group from Norfolk, Virginia, from 1961-1967. Also lead singer of The Chairmen Of The Board, R&B vocal group from Detroit, Michigan. Wrote the hit "Patches" for Clarence Carter, which reached #4 in 1970. RIP - "ROCK AND ROLL FOREVER WILL STAND"

In Chairmen of the Board he sounded a LOT like Levi Stubbs of the Four Tops, I thought.

Greatest lead voice in r&b ever. A modern day Howlin' Wolf. Rest in peace.
