This is why this guy is the greatest Rock-Singer EVER! - No Freddie Mercury, no Robert Plant, no Ozzy, no Dio, no nobody could do that. Performances like this divide the real great Rockers from the rest. Bon Jovi can get 90 years old - the will never rock like this.
This from around the time that Jan walked into the Greensides pub in Hartlepool where I was leaning on the bar waiting for the rest of my mates and said dead matter of fact like after he had ordered the drinks while chatting to me ...... "Oh ... sorry .... have you met Ian before?" ... I turned round to see who "Ian" was and ... well you can guess the rest!
BTW John McCoy is actually a really nice guy ........... he turned up later! What a night!
Jeez! The dude on bass is frightening me. I'd love to see anyone try and rush the stage with him there. He also passes a striking resemblance to my mother-in-law.
Ian Gillan is fantastic here (as good as ever). But with McCoy playing behind him, would anyone dare sing a bum note?
Pure dead brillyant!! I've just been asked to come up with 1 song from my childhood for a group 40th birthday party. This song jumped immediately to mind even though I hadn't heard it for years - its still got all the energy it did when I was jumping around the bedroom playing air guitar as a teenager!

gillan was brilliant in his own band, loved janick gers and especially colin towns. gillans embarrasing himself now with purple because his voive has gone
Gillan by Gillan Tour. Leas Cliffe Hall, Folkestone. Mick Underwood had his hands in bandages, rocked with us in the front row. I was about 6! (Doin A levels at the time and we said 'there was no easy way'..) Great post.
you must not be british `cos all the great stuff from the 80`s was completly ignored by british tv and radio, if Gillan, Maiden, Saxon, `dc,`snake - et-al were relying on the uk for a living, they and thier families would have starved!! thank god for the USA (can`t believe I just typed that) and Europe who kept these bands going!! mainstream uk had Adam ant(where are they now???), duran (shite) duran, Kaja-fuckin-googoo!! don`t get me started!!!!!!!!!
The Gillan band was something else - 5 true characters and Ian in great form. What a shame he walked out on it all to do Black Sabbath. WTF was he thinking?!
well, the rest of the band thought IG was ripping them off, whereas IG says he was subsidising the band (and ruining himself financially in the process) as they were losing money...up to you who you believe, but John McCoy, Colin Townes, Mick Underwood and Bernie Torme I don't think have a very good opinion of old IG, pity as the band was really excellent - and New Orleans was by far their best single IMHO
25 years ago ,14 years old ,free tickets and on TV 2min 17.OMG didnt think this would show up Ive still gotJohn McCOY broken bass head when he smashed it up at the end.
Gillan the best forever....
