  • u do right man i would totaly do the same damn thing

  • You didn't show us how to do anything!

  • I agree with you, 100 %

  • I suppose the best thing to do would be to embed some spyware in the video. Could catch them red handed. But then again, what good would that do when they're half way around the world?

  • Same thing happened to me.

I had a guy in Conn. asking me to build him a custom water bed. When I got back to florida, I designed it assembly form in 3D.

I was suspicious of him right from the start.

He confirmed my suspicion when asking me key design / assembly questions which I did not answer!

  • same thing happen to me but i reported right away to youtube and now i dont see that video ever again

  • by the way what program do you use to make your own watermarks

  • You probably won't be able to do this the way I do because I use Cinelerra in Linux.

    But....

All you need is a video editing program that can do chroma key (like the weather guy on TV)

I made a simple image with my logo and and painted the rest of the background green.

This is layered on top of my video and every thing "green" in the top layer is converted transparent.

Try searching YouTube for "how-to watermark" or "how-to watermark video" for some other ideas how to do it.

  • all you have to do is use an alpha channel with your image

  • I've been jacked as well, and I'm putting watermarks my vids now, and my D-SLR photos too. Not just simple ones, but transparent 3D ones hard to remove.

  • Great idea. Semi transparent across the entire screen.

  • Yep, watermarks seem to be a necessary thing now. Because of the water4bombs glass grenade guys, it has given our hard works a negative connotation. I am going to recommend to my board at EBN that any vids we do be watermarked, but always available to anyone else that wishes to use them for the right reasons. We are Open Source, and will continue to be so, even if we have to fight a little to keep information flowing. Theives and scammers will be eliminated, as long as we all work together.

  • This is also happening to me, so far I have found two videos that have been ripped off my page, and I have also found some of my video names on other people's videos.

  • dude-i have been marking this stuff as SPAM all week. all the accounts are from india-and i think its some sort of automated spam bot. its pissing me off-and your right to be annoyed. its diluting the info-and filling our subscription box with shit. ive been using the watermark for a while now-but i noticed that this spammer is even ripping vids that are marked. flag them as SPAM. at the moment its only the end users problem. if enough people do this, then it becomes YT's problem.5*'s

  • some foke just dont care what they are doing to others, they are in it for the money. I agree, any video I upload anymore will be water marked or atleast have some kinda info retaining to the project inbedded in it. it's this kinda shit that really gets under my skin.

  • Actually, Cinelerra is quite simple once you figure out what it is expecting you to do.

I will grant you the learning curve is quite steep (almost like a wall).

I would suggest running it from a terminal window for 2 reasons.

    - when it chokes, whatever it choked on will get listed in the terminal window.

    - enter Control-C in the terminal window will kill it.

One other suggestion. Don't go too long without saving your changes. That way if you have to kill it, you won't loose too much work.

  • yeah, up to this point, I have avoided cluttering up my video presentations with water marks and such ... but this is getting rediculous ...

In general I am not in favor of restricting the use of my work ... the reason I publish on YouTube is to make it available to anyone who needs it ...

but I do take exception to someone stealing my videos to promote something I do not support or endorse ... my biggest concern is that I will be associated with the scam !!! watermarks from now on ...

  • Yes, I liked the convenience of just plugging the camera into the PC and uploading the video directly without edits. Oh well.

As long as my video is not misrepresented, I mostly do not have an issue of most anyone using them.

I mean if I didn't want anyone to see them, I wouldn't have posted them in the first place.

  • report that A**HOLE of user to YouTube right away and get him banned and thats that! And yes i saw a bunch of those stupid clip's from that user too.. And you can re-post your videos with text also.. if you bother..

  • there are so many of them and they change names so often you would spend the rest of your life filing reports ... seems half of the population of India doing this ... can China be too far behind ???

  • Glad I could be a help to you, keep up the good job with ya hho stuff

  • Thanks again for pointing that video out. I would have never known about it otherwise.

  • I have been flagging them as Spam, but that gets old. does this help?

  • what is bad is that when ever you type in hho or dry cell all you can find is his advertising so it is a lot off junk so if i post a vid now it will disappear in its junk cose he is posting hundred of stolen vids around the clock

  • This is a real shame!! ... YouTube should have built in watermarks when a user uploads video data to protect their customers.. I have to agree with InstallGuys.. "If we band together, a larger response will get a quicker response from YouTube".

    Doug

  • Good Video,

I'll be using watermarks from now on.

The exact same thing happened to me by Briannapott. this is a work at home scam run by "manofinfluence" where he signs people up to ripp peoples videos and create traffic to his websites that sell crap.

It takes about 4 days for Youtube to delete you video (at least it was that long for me.

  • Type in that user's YouTube channel, and I will also report the infringement. Perhaps if we band together, a larger response will get a quicker response from YouTube.

    Steve

  • Reporting copyright infringement is tricky at best if you are not the actual copyright holder of the video you want to report.

I do not recommend that anyone do this for anyone's videos except their own!!!

Other than the original author reporting copyright infringement, I am not sure what a regular user can do without getting into trouble themselves.

Except make the original author aware if the problem.

Be careful what you do here. If you are too aggressive, it could backfire on you.

  • Understood

  • Of course I am open to suggestion. I just don't want anyone to get in trouble on my account.

  • Well, they say that "Imitation is the best form of flatery"...but that is just going too far. They are using your hard work in an effort to ligitimize their crap to rip people off. And if they'll do that to you, theyll do it to anyone. We'll keep an eye out, too, buddy. Thanks for this info, L, we will also start adding watermarks to our future vids.

    Keep up the good work!

    Steve w/InstallGuys

  • Its sad to see people are stooping this low to make money and rip people off what program did you use to put a water mark on your videos? I have some videos comming up soon that I will do as you do and put in the water mark thanks for the heads up! Keep up the good work :-)

  • I used an application called "Cinelerra" (free as beer). Unfortunately this only runs in Linux.

I am not familiar enough with any Windows based Video Editing applications to make an educated guess which one you should use.

But look for a one that can do layers or do Chroma Key.

The watermark image itself was a PNG file. You can probably do BMP, GIF or JPG just as easily.

The scrolling text is application specific. You may not be able to do that in a Windows base NLE. (Non-Linear Editor)
