It's funny reading the comments of people who dislike the airline. So much so they search the airline and decided to leave tasteless comments on this video. But, to my understanding, the airline is rebooting itself with new management, new aircrafts and a new marketing scheme to help boost the more modern professional appeal of this classic carrier. Take care of your employees and your employees will take care of the passengers. Change your customer service model and the airline will be golden
I would have joined in just because that seemed like fun...running around with my arms out like an airplane. I haven't done that since I was a child!!!!
I'm adding a "thumbs up" to one of the top comments, because I have been a loyal AAdvantage member since 2002, but in that time I've seen a massive decline in service and a spike in prices.
Personally, I loved the video. It was uplifting and fresh, which is what advertising should be... but it didn't tell us much about your routes from LAX.
My advice: ditch the cashless cabins (my money is not good here???) and check bags for free.
Too bad your customer service STINKS!!!! Your airline tried to screw me and make me pay more for a flight I had already booked so I switched to Jet Blue. I will never fly your airline ever again and have warned my friends and family not to fly you either. You have absolutely no respect for your customers which is why I am no longer one of yours.
So does this mean they gave their personnel on the flights a personality? Does this mean they will be on time more often than not? Just what should that mean to me as a consumer?
what a bunch of crumpy comments, Geez. I thought the piece was great. A nice takeoff from other mundane airline media et al. wAAy to go! AA. Keep up the nice ads : )
Camera work sucks. Over produced. doesn't look spontaneous the way true flash mobs should. obvious father and daughter are actors. just not thrilling. obvious commercial for airline.
I almost got mugged on those very steps on a Saturday because it was so deserted. What planet do these people come from? Good to see there was at least one vagrant to make it somewhat representational.
I liked it, I thought it was fun. But I really think American Airlines needs to recapture their ad campaing from the late 70's and 80's "Were American Airlines doing what we do best." And really highlight your employee's and your dedicaton to the traveler. You also need to get your house in order financially and begin growing again. You have Hubs in all the key markets, yet your loosing to Delta and United. But once you change that, you could also highlight that.
Did you get the proper permits for this? I suppose AA, as a major company, can't do any sort of advertising campaign as a spontaneous public expression, despite appearances. It was all going so well until they took over the crosswalk for a perfectly-frame overhead view of the AA logo. That gave it away as a carefully choreographed, massively funded contrivance. Still, it was pretty cool, just contrived.
I don't know why, but this commercial jogged my memory a bit, and reminded me of the old AA jingle/slogan "We're American Airlines, doing what we do best."
Wonderful performance, but it's not a flash mob, it's a choreographed performance.
Notice how it was filmed from multiple angles? And yet none of the camera people can be seen in each others' shots. That means multiple takes... which means no flash mob, but a standard commercial.
We appreciate everyone viewing the video and adding your comments. We’re hoping that you enjoy the video as a bit of fun to help us celebrate our new service from LAX. Thanks for your contributions, we’re listening. On that note, what type of video content would you like to see us produce?
@americanairlines I've been a loyal AAdvantage member since 1996 and have flown AA since birth (1994) and wish to continue to fly my favorite airline but factors like comfort on planes like the fact first class seats on AA are economy on planes of other airlines outside the US. Also the horrid meals need to change. I wish to feel like a guest if I'm paying for that so a good meal and good friendly service in a nice comfortable seat. I simply wish to be proud of my favorite airline. -Andrew Iorio
Sorry AA, it's way too late to addopt this type of viral marketing for your brand. It's obviously that surprise element with dancers and bunch of happy people will do the job-we see nice performed clone campain - it's already been done with T-Mobile "Lifes For Sharing" or London city "Unexpected performance" ...brilliant idea with "surprise effect" in Spanair viral ad "Unexpected luggage".
I just don't believe that a such a giantbrand as AA is so poor of fresh ideas :(
Great idea, American! People stop, watch, record, upload, and your exposure continues on social media. Expect to see more! Read my take on the travel impact dot com.
@americanairlines People will always complain ... What AA needs to do is be more connected with its customers via youtube/facebook and twitter. Have videos about places you fly, the main attractions and such. Have special promotions and contests for people that ''follow'' you on these social networks it will raise the interest for the airline. It is a good marketing push, much better than the usual cold adds we see from most companies. Keep up the good work
While the song is catchy and cute, and I appreciate the effort, I agree that a more practical way to spend the money for this project would be to lower costs to the travelers. People who travel a lot are NOT going to be impressed by this and decide, "Hey, they sing and dance well! Let's fly with THEM next time!" DUH!
Other than the fact that the Flash Mob did not represent the population of the city it serves, I don't have any problems with the ad. Its a "feel good" ad, and clever. The close ups of the people taking the pictures were erroneous not enough context. Should have panned out the camera to show that instead of doing it in small 2 second clips. And yes, I don't like American and refuse to fly them as well because of the baggage fees.
Totally f*ing LAME. Even the bystanders are rehearsed. It's not even in sync. People are moved around between candid shots. This is the lamest ad video on YouTube. Fire the idiot who decided that "we can create a flash mob ad that will appeal to a large audience". When you hear something like that in a meeting, shoot it down fast. The idea sucks so the video sucks.
Cool video! But I'd prefer that you just stop charging me for luggage, stop losing my luggage, start serving food again and try to make flying less of a terrible experience.
utter utter shit. A flash mob is only worthwhile if it's contextually relevant to the brand, you have lots and lots of unsuspecting passers by and / or its so good it goes viral. This failed on all counts. Flash mobs - even the good ones - have had their day in the sun.
It made me smile to see the other people smile...I like to see people smile and have happy moments. I'm easy like that. Some of these comments appear to reflect a bunch of anger and discontent. I wonder what makes you smile...if anything at all. Perhaps being mean, cynical, pessimistic and critical is what makes you smile. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I agree with Jaskerisk: Because of this clever ad that made me (and the bystanders) smile, I WILL fly AA next time! All you no-life-having whining tree huggers and sissy-boy complainers need to get away from your pathetic agendas and just enjoy life before you realize that you wasted it whimpering about crap that doesn't matter.
