  • very nice video! out of all of the painting how to vids this helped me the most, as im just starting warhammer and these are the range of paints that i have

  • You mean Priming Black is Shading not Highlighting, Really shouldnt leave the pip and Lighter out also lol

  • Gonja Green Paint not shown for pipe.

  • i can totaly vouch for those cheap walmart paints they can actually work pretty well on flat surfaces i painted all the vehicles in my blood angels army using that lipstick red they got a little bit of watering down and dabbing it on with a sponge looks awesome

  • nice painting, i must say you sounded high as a damn kite and then well...we all got to see you "implement" haha

  • I got a great set of like 24 pots of acrylics at Wal-Mart, came in a black box and has a great range of skin tones, and most basic colors. I also have a range of Apple Barrel, Folk Art, DecoArt Crafters Acrylic, and Delta Ceramcoat 2oz. paints. They vary in consistency among brands, but all work well. I use a wet pallet and mostly drybrush in layers, then wash and highlight/detail. There are some great metallics from Folk Art, DecoArt, and Ceramcoat... best thing is the size/price and range.

  • Hello, Gotta love the "and uh,..." @ about 4:15 LOL ,

Totally a necessity for painting minis....

I Love Apple Barrel paints, especially the big jugs of paint, I use them for scenery......

I Use GW WASHES on my minis, I have about 20 GW old paints with the black screw on lids around somewhere, with my old fantasy set and Lizardmen Army... I still use a couple colors once in a while and will buy a GW paint time to time...... but I use mostly Wal-Mart, and Craft Store paints..... for pilots LOL

  • Thanks for the tips! The game store (that only sells Warhammer products) is trying to have me buy crappy starter paints and a book for $70 bucks, with free painting classes... glad I found your video! I don't want to ruin my first set. total n00b at this, so I'm being careful. Thanks again!

  • nice, haha noticed the pipe in the backround ;)

  • I'm shocked your painted those with those paints and they turned out so well. Hot damn. I'm a stickler for my GW/Reaper/Vallejo/Tamiya Brands... but.. hmm, still good it know! I usually use Krylon primers and especially their clear coat.

  • the key to using the cheaper paints is getting a good consistency, and doing multiple thin coats

  • I used to only use GW paints for the first 10 yers or so that I was collecting, but eventually I discovered that apple barrel stuff from walmart. I will never waste my money on the overpriced GW stuff again after using that stuff.

  • Apple Barrel acrylics are great for models. A lot of the cheaper paints like that usually have a low pigment count and it takes several coats to get a nice smooth color, but the Apple Barrel ones are just as good as the GW ones and 60 cents for a bottle 3 the size.

  • don't get me wrong, the quality of gw paints is WAY above the walmart stuff, but the point is you can make them work if you use them for what they're best at, which is highlighting

  • That's a nice paint job.

  • thanks a lot bro

  • *cough* 4:14 *cough*

  • um that was uh ... actually an artifact from the dankor system, discovered by the frimulacs of the... let me look this up real quick.... ah yes, here it is, the 7th galactic era.

  • which era did they implement glass as the medium for this type of artifact? Glass ftw ; )

  • Emperors fist man! That's classified information.... you'll have the inquisitors on us!

  • nice tutorial man keep it up .. by the way try to keep the chiilin pipe out of the picture =]

  • an unfortunate oversight on my part... lol

  • Nice vid...doesn't matter how many other tutorials are out there, I just enjoy talented people sharing how they work...Your a great example, that excellent results can come form non-GW costly paints....really looking forward to the rest of your vids..Do you spray paint or brush your primer coat?...I've done both black and white...I agree, white creates more vivid colors, which seems out of place for war minis...get interesting results on white base for gosts & specters....Jim.

  • good question jim, I started out brushing all of them to save paint, but that is really time consuming and gets to be a real drag after a while, so I started spraying, these nobs that I am working on in these vids are sprayed with krylon flat black, which I have switched over to for all of my basecoating, I should have mentioned that, thanks again

  • Actually I personally prefer white, you just have to add shading to tone down the colors. A lot of colors cover over white much more easily, so depending on the army's colorscheme it may or may not be better.

  • glad to have the other perspective covered! bright colors are a lot easier to paint over white, true... it's really just a matter of opinion, neither one is right or wrong, I just do my stuff in black so that's what I show in the vid, thanks a lot for watching!

  • No problem! Your stuff looks amazing for someone who has only been playing since Black Reach was released. Keep up the great work and keep those videos coming!

  • brilliant vid man keep em comin

  • I really appreciate it, thanks!

  • Thats a great cross reference vid to cheap walmart paints. Not everyone can afford to buy GW so I am sure there will be some people that will use this.

    cat/

  • thanks cat, thats the reason I am making these, youtube already has plenty of pro painting vids, but I figured the majority of us who aren't at that level could benefit from some simple tips to get their minis on the table, quicker and cheaper

  • Cool man!

  • thanks a lot man!
