  • like a saab 99 900 but without the build quality

  • i bought one of these back in 2002 i think it was .... it was a 1981 2200HLE in a champagne colour with automatic transmission. only had it a week. made its first trip from huddersfield to bury, greater manchester....didnt make it back. major oil and water leak. electrics went mental and overheated that bad i actually thought it was going to burst in flames. had to push it from the traffic lights at a retail park in bury and abandon it outside carpet world. cost me £40 on the train journey back

  • @dolphtrains2 i always miss that car. it was mint bodywork and immaculate showroom condition interior..... just a shame the mechanicals and electrics were a lemon

  • awesome british technology.

  • like the cars but they didn't fully do the job and it isn't suprising that few survive

  • Love the soundtrack.

  • Surprising that BL didn't try to foist...er...sell this in the USA. Considering that the "wedge" look was coming from the TR-7 (The Shape of things that break, as I called ours) you'd thing BL would have tried to market this as a triumph in showrooms in America alongside the 7.

  • 0:25 GDA 700N looks like "Good Toon" hehe

  • that car is not one bit symmetrical xD

  • I'd like to get one and put a perkins prima turbo in it.

  • I have to admit I liked the styling of The Wedge, though I preferred the rhomboid semi-sealed headlights over the four round lights look. We never had them in Australia; Leyland was still recovering from the failure of the P76 at the time. Was the 2200 a four, or the same inline six we used in the local Austin X6?

  • always thought they were called the 18-22 series because if you were lucky they'd last 4 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very good cars

  • Good cars but the seats colapsed and wore out so bad you could feel the frame and would give you a numb bum!

  • i had a smash in one of these a r reg ,the other car escort c reg was a write off and there was only a small scratch on this ,very good cars

  • @RICHARDTOMLEY10WHARF - you do realise that crashworthinss is about how undamaged the car's occupants are, not how undamaged the car is, don't you?

  • My brother had one of these, in fact he had 2, not at the same time of course. He worked for Unipart at the time and got company cars given. At the time, I thought the Austin Princess was the height of luxury.

  • Oddly beautiful car was the princess

  • i have to say i do think the Princess give it its due did its job even without a hatchback but it wasnt exactly the nicest looking cars, rivals with the allegro on ugliness in my opinion, sorry to all you princess and allegro fans out there

  • Well they have some rust and engine problems, but still they look stylish and fresh.

  • had one in the early eighties a 2.0L. It was an ok family car and it pulled our caravan. With only 4 gears economy was abysmal engines were far too small, clutch was incapable, as long as it was driven gently it was ok but when needed to do a bit of work, cars of this time couldnt cope. Have to admit I was a leyland man but fords were stronger. However like many other cars it was a sign of the times and the best that could be achieved with the workforces and management we had in this country.

  • Wow, i did'nt know there was this many versions of it! I like them!

  • That's groovy 70's stuff! Very nice car and music!

  • Funky styling and funky music!

  • "God these cars were awful". Do you really believe that based on owning driving one, or have you been brainwashed by the mass media/Clarkson et al ? Early ones were badly made-but it`s a perfectly good drive and the shape-you either love or hate it.

  • @stylophobia Like another great British product, Marmite!

Lol, It'd be my dream to have a collection of British motors, one of these included.

  • Comment removed

  • Hopefully you owned one for long enough to make that judgement based on your experience and not what you've been told.

  • I was born in 1958 so am thus old enough to remember the trash that rolled off leyland production lines. Ugly as hell they were

  • @alijanlondon Really, sir!? I think it's cool and different like any british car! I pay all my respect and enthusiasm to british motoring!

  • @alijanlondon Some early models had issues, mud sticks.

Well designed, If I had the money and garage space I'd buy a Wolseley saloon, 2200cc engine, smooth, very nice interior too, leather.

At the moment I'm in love with my Hornet.

  • Exelente !! ;gracias ,desde argentina.

(here in buenoas aires ,,im have a morris ital ,and morris marina van 1980)

  • I love the music...
