and maby to longevity but for skatability plastic and metal aren't great. metal is to slippy and hard to land on when you slam and the noise is like annoying as hell and plastic just doesn't feel right to skate on :P
Save money and time, use pallets for the flat bottom. Pallets can hold thousands of weight, and easily a couple skaters.
Spread the word, use pallets for your flat bottom. More ramps would be built if people understood this.
Check out my mini ramp vids on my youtube channel. All my 3 ramps where built with pallets, they are all solid. I've never had a hole in the flat bottom, no problem EVER!!!
Spread the word about pallets. Build more ramps, build them faster, build them cheaper!!!!!!!
Hey, im thinking of making a halfpipe, but i dont wonna spend loads of money and screw up, so would i t be better to just find somone to make it or buy one ready made? also, what do you use to stop the wood being weather'd, thanks :)
realy? i dont like it, looks realy whippy, theres no flat so it would be like your skating constant transition kinda like full pipe with no over vert :S good build tho
that should be easy enough. i mean its prefectly good, i just prefer wide middle sections. ahah when you skated it the first time i thought that ply extension was guna snap. you should skin it up with some maisonite when you have extended it. make it nice and smooth ^^ your very lucky to have this in your garden btw :P
forget about making one guys unless your handy at carpentry. I did this and I ended up with a piece of S##T. Go to RAILSLIDEdotCOM and they sell prebuilt steel frame ramps and ship for free and dont cost an arm and a leg
hey mate i envy your halfpipe, and where i live we gotta get a bus for like a hour to get somewere with a halfpipe. we are thinking of gettin a 2ft halfpipe like 6ft long for 400£ n splitting it tho i think making a 4ft one would be better =[ how much did it cost to get all the wood? and how hard was it got any tips? thanks for your time : D
i built a 6 foot halfpipe at my place but i gotta take it apart next summer na dput in some more support beams... i just built it out of shit i found in my backyard cause my adads a carpenter and i got him to bring extra or old shit home. but yeah how did u find the slope .... like did u juts wing it or did u actually measure it for the incline and shit?
Thanks, I measured the tranny using a string on a stick with a 10 foot radius. made one and then used it as a template for the rest. The flat bottom was way too small, I agree. We wanted to cut it in the middle and extend it another 6-8 feet.
duh, that is why I said NO. It was painted later. this means there is no skatelite on it. because the owner knows that the sheets are expensive, and did not want to spend the dollahs on it. $150.00 x 20 sheets = $3000.00. Would have doubled the price of the ramp. duh
hi there!!! i am from Sweden if you wounder why may English is bad hahaha i am going to bullid a half pipe like yours.. and i wounder how big it is? how high it is? i would be very thankfull to you if you can tell me! thanks from Fredrik Boman
The coping is 6 (2 meters) feet. the transition is a 10 foot(2.75 meter) Radius. The deck is 3 feet(1 meter) wide. The flat bottom was too narrow on this, 8 feet (3 meters). It should be another 4-8 feet (1.25-2.5 meters) wide for comfortable riding. The whole thing is 24 by 24 feet (8 meters by 8 meters). Hope this helps
wouldnt be plastic or metal better? i mean how the wood suppose to resist rain
Depalla 3 years ago
Maintenance is the only way to keep anything up outside. Just with ply, it takes more time to paint and seal

buy treated lumber or treat it yourself. painting it helps too...

what kind of wood should i use so theres no damage from the rain
jwandcmproductions 3 years ago
Ideal would be skatelite. That is engineered to withstand the elements more, but anything outdoors will need maintenance, regardless of the material.

marine ply wont warp =]
NewRomantic4 3 years ago
nice one question though! Wat was the budget?
1crazykid21 3 years ago
the transition and flat looks to small and tight.. Nice build but looks horrible to skate. (No offence)

sweet but pallets a terrible idea if u think about it frame it up with 2x4's
sk8tr5599 3 years ago
pallets are for if you want to save some $ for the flat. the topsheets will tie them all together. Agree that new construction is best, though

holy crap, that radius is super shallow. and where's the flat? good halfer though.
EricfromWV 3 years ago
10 foot radius, 5 1/2 foot to the coping....
pawb1o 3 years ago
haha, that's crazy. can you catch air pretty good with it, or is it more of a giant miniramp?
EricfromWV 3 years ago
Like a giant miniramp, too little flat bottom for set up

two layers of 1/2 inch exterior ply. Then the owner painted it a couple of weeks later with marine paint.

duh, that is why I said NO. It was painted later. this means there is no skatelite on it. because the owner knows that the sheets are expensive, and did not want to spend the dollahs on it. $150.00 x 20 sheets = $3000.00. Would have doubled the price of the ramp. duh
