You can do the phone brightness from chr + the light button, top left.

I reconfigured the controls so it plays ok. The pad still lets it down though,, strange how good one can get after a few hours of play

He doesn't run it in GL mode, only software rendered.

you can clearly see that is running in OpenGL mode, but he changed the brightness to heavy that it looks like Software rendering.
