  • it was a paradigm of his composition and performance technique--to have one play each note as if that note bore no relationship to the previously played note or the subsequent note--kind of like "bombs bursting in air"...or ack-ack guns

    hope this helps

  • @garylucas Let me just say Mr. Lucas that I'm a real big fan of your work. Makes me think about guitar in ways that confuse and scare my friends. Love it.

  • Really really nice - you can really savor the melodies and nuances.

  • well, don had me "kook it"--here I am playing it more languidly at the original piano demo tempo...by the time we got into recording this he had me apply his "exploding note theory" to it

  • @garylucas Could you share more on the "exploding note theory?" that would be something to note!

  • @garylucas Would you describe the "exploding note theory" a bit? I've never heard any other guitar collaborator of his mention it besides you. Was it a paradigm in his writing or a sartorial response to your technique? If so, did Flavor Bud play a role in it's establishment?

This version of Evening Bell slays.

  • gary lucas is a original player.

  • Yeh thats true, it benefits from been slightly slower too. Reminds me of a piece of straw flowing down a stream.

  • I actually prefer this one to the recorded version. Its a lot warmer.
