love this song on so many levels im doing a play in college about the dissapeared in chile and apparently sting wrote this song about the people who still look for the people that went missing over the years and how they dance for them. or something like that.
The cueca is the Chilean national dance, it's a dance between a man and woman and it signifies courtship, also dancing with a loved one. In the 70's there was a military take over and thousands of people dissapeared. The wives, mothers, sisters and daughters of missing people got together to look for them and they created "la cueca sola" or 'the lonely cueca" to represent the fact that their loved ones were not there anymore.
This is one of the most beautiful videos I have ever seen. The dancing of everyone at the end signifies the unity and love of the people for life. Truly the supreme human achievement.

Sting is an amazing artist, and has been a favorite artist of my family's for many year. I love how his music is so capturing and has depth. Don't get me wrong, because I love the current R and B music and pop albums too, but music with a purpose is refreshing.

The cueca is the Chilean national dance, it's a dance between a man and woman and it signifies courtship, also dancing with a loved one. In the 70's there was a military take over and thousands of people dissapeared. The wives, mothers, sisters and daughters of missing people got together to look for them and they created "la cueca sola" or 'the lonely cueca" to represent the fact that their loved ones were not there anymore.

The four men that appeared there where part of the hundreds of people who dissappeared during the dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet in Chile
when Sting came to Chile some years ago he met a group of women who danced the "cueca" (national dance of Chile) alone, to represent the absence of their husbands, sons, etc... he based on that to do this song...

Sting is an amazing artist, and has been a favorite artist of my family's for many year. I love how his music is so capturing and has depth. Don't get me wrong, because I love the current R and B music and pop albums too, but music with a purpose is refreshing.
