This was another ganking of 100 pounds Egyptian or $18 US. It's only worth 50 pounds at most. Prices doubled recently on entrances and Egyptian peoples attitudes are hot where they are complaining about economic misfortunes. Not a fun holiday. Egypt is a big hassle that wasted my time and money. Too many con men, bad guys, hustlers, bad negative pessimists, drug dealers, and confrontational idiots. Disgusting.
What an entirely ignorant and confrontational comment. Egypt is a very inspiring place, genuinely rewarding and entirely fascinating. Such a pity you place such a low value on mental and cultural stimulation. I am sure that most other visitors would find your attitude as repellent as you claim to have found Egypt.
Some people love it; some people hate it. I think why I had such a hard time in Egypt is they usually thought I was German since they were so rude to me and tried German speaking and thought I was pretending to be non-German. Several Egyptians voiced their opinion right in my face that they hate Germans as if I were lying to them about who I am knowing this fact. They were the most hostile and the rudest people I ever met. Not just one, but nearly all of them. Egypt is confrontational.
PRETENDING to be German was a real asset to me the first time I went there. It soon got rid of anybody that was hassling me. I don't speak any German, but making up any old rubbish that I could think of from a World War 2 film soon confused them and made them walk off. I've been back three times now, and I'm going this summer. I don't bother with the mock German accent now, I've just learned to appreciate their culture, and learned that sometimes a firm "NO" will suffice. It's a wonderful place.
Yes AJM, its about appreciating things a little and not getting uptight. Just accept that things are different there and all is fine. Like you say, and firm NO does the trick, or just learnt o say NO in Arabic and it works even better ;)
A good point, and very well made, Soul Bob. I think if I were in Egypt and found myself getting a bit stressed about having to experience a different culture, I'd go and have a lie down in a quiet room with a flannel on my forehead. Either that, or just accept that things are a bit different and make the most of my time there!
Thats a good idea AJM, but make sure that if the water on the flannel is from the tap, that it doesnt dribble into your mouth, or else you could end up spending the rest of the trip on the toilet with your balloon knot on fire!
Goodness, I wouldn't want that to happen! I had a dish in Luxor called "Pair of Pigeons". I didn't realise that poultry is served almost raw in some restuarants in Egypt. I had to make a quick dash to the lavatory. For a brief moment, I didn't think my "stinger" was going to recover! Still, all part of the experience, I suppose.
Wow its like i was there again, would not of thought there would be a video of the show on You-Tube. Thxs bringing the memories back nicely x
