Does anyone know how old Arya is in the show? And Robb, Jon, Theon, Sansa and Joffrey? Because they're definitely older in the show than in the books.
@DarthGarz i believe sansa told cersei she was 13 so Joffery is not so far off, then you can make guesses on the rest arya closer to 10 so the jon rob etc would be 16-18. I assume they choices ages that we would understand as normal.
@saluk i believe the sound effect change is hint as the what the future of Arya has in store, she's my favorite character along with Tyrion, the imp, they are all good actors but those 2 are my favorite, i gotta have at least 2 in a show like this, chances are 1 of them probably wont make it passed next season in a show like this! =( i like the show htough it wouldn't bother me too much to see them kill off my favorite characters as long as they do it with some respect/dignity to the characters.
The sounds Eddard hears are there to intimate that he is thinking back on the horrible din that is warfare and violence. He doesn't want that for his daughter and seeing her learn to fight with a sword doesn't exactly discourage violence. In the book there's no mention of Eddard actually observing and I like that they added this.
I loved this scene as well. I have been training in sword arts for many years and have heard those same critiques (i.e. too strong a grip) hundreds of times. The training never ends. Great show. I hope to get into the books eventually.
@TheInnerStation I've read the book as well as seen the series, and I've got to say, the book doesn't add too much extra info, the series follows the book insanely good, so no real point of reading the book as far as thinking you've missed something goes, but with that said, I love the book as much as I love the series, it's one of those rare effortless reads :)
I want Syrio as my dance master.
I love how long this scene is. Scenes on TV are usually shorter than this, but by staying with the lesson a little longer, it all feels more real.

Nice attention to detail: Arya picks up the sword with her left hand and uses the left hand. Like in the book.

I never expected to see Boromir walking through that door.

When I first saw this episode I though he was Sonny from Grease. I was mistaken.

Syrio isn't dead. He's too awesome to be killed offscreen.

*I realise now that the actors look totally different, but I couldn't help but imagine the following dialog*
"Who are you?"
"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed... wait, nevermind."

Syrio looks like the baby of Bob Ross, and Robert Downey Jr.

So creepy how the sound effects change from wood swords to steel as Ned watches.

Yeah, I had a a smile on my face as I watched it... only I expected him to say "I am Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!"

@jackingoldsby Oh, just wait until Season 3; there's a particular scene which is just begging to get mashed up with that particular line.
