I have to agree with Tenten32321. Tate is not evil. the house possessed him and that's why he doesn't remember anything or even knows that he's dead. It's easy to see how much he loves Violet, he saved her life. ( really loved that scene! he did an amazing job with the raw emotion!)

I don't think Tate was possessed... I beleave Constance has more to do with all of this than we can imagine. Why is the maids ghost trapped there but not the husbands? Tate called his mother a 'cocksucker' when in therapy... I think she is the ringleader somehow...can't wait to see how it all turns out! PS why don't men dress as well as Tate in real life?!

I actually agree with constance. I think the house made tate do the massacre, I don't think tate was conscious while it happened, yet he dreams parts of it. I think that's why he didn't recognize the teenagers and I guess he was still possessed by the house when he got shot by the SWAT-team, wich is why he doesn't know he's dead. Because look at him with Violet! He's so sweet. He couldn't kill a fly!

I completely agree! The librarian thought that Tate was just a quiet good kid before the shooting went down. As far as I can see, he had no real signs of being a murderer or anything. Just trying to get out of high school and away from there.

I think Tate is a ghost because the cheerleader he killed is suppost to be 35 at this moment he killed he when she was 17 or so that means he would have been 17 to he is either a ghost or he is just older than he says he is but I have other reasons too.

Tate is kind of a bad guy in the show. Kind of. If you watch episode 5, you'll see what I mean. But in the video that wasn't really what I was trying to convey. Basically, Tate's possessive. And he wants Violet all to himself even killing to get what he wants. :P

But Violet wants him too because he's Tate freaking Langdon. And that's reason enough. :P

If Tate is a ghost, he's from the 90's. In episode 1 when he's listening to music in Violet's room, he asks her if she has any Kurt Cobain. Also pay attention to his clothing and hair. Eerily similar to Kurt Cobain....

SO THIS IS MY THEROY! Tate is the neighbors dead son that she loved. ( maybe not dead but something)The monster in the basement was Tate's imaginary friend when he was alive in the 70s. He got older after a while and became obsessed with a girl, the monster didn't like this. The girl cheated on him, so he killed her with help from his monster. Love it!!!!! After reading some of the comments, I thought I would share my theory that Tate is a ghost from the 1970s. I'm basing this on behind-the-scenes clips and "you're going to die in there" website. On the website there is a 1970s scene with a kid's picture storyboard about a boy and his dark monster. Does that sound like anyone?

@ilovemichealcera The school scene is just a fantasy he's having about going on a school killing. All in his head hence the skull face. Constance (the old lady?) has been living in the neighborhood for quite sometime as seen in the flashback from episode 3, so he could have known her from b/f (maybe she's his mom and the dad that abandoned them is the cheating husband that got killed). My new theory is that tate was a kid in '70s but died in late '80s early '90s b/c of he likes Cobain.
