truly stunning performance. I listen to this recording a lot. Thank you for your interest in this music, you really benefit a lot of people by sharing it.
It was my joy to bring our beautiful Maharishi Gandharva Ved Concert to everyone who like the Sounds of Mother Nature with Gandharva Veda truely is! It all came through & continues to be through Maharishis Divine Blessings...
Charukeshi is one of my favorite ragas...and this Charukeshi is one of the best I have heard. Truly sensitive alaap.
I wonder why all the video editing? Crossfades at weird time like elements were deleted? Didn't want to show Sugato-ji retuning the instrument or what?
This mandolin has eight strings in sets of four unisons like a typical mandolin, except it is tuned lower in pitch. Also the body is bigger and deeper. Perhaps it is a Mandola, which is bigger and lower in pitch than a mandolin. The members of the mandolin family corresponds to the violin family. The mandolin, mandola, and mandocello correspond to the violin, viola, and cello respectively.
Some mandolins have arched tops, but this one would be considered a flat top mandolin.
Although a Carnatic raga, it is a common belief that raga Charukeshi is a new entrant to Hindustani Classical Music. It exists in the Hindustani style as Raga Chandramauli, but was probably popularised by the Carnatic style & therefore has become popular as Charukeshi
