do you need a green card to get your U.S. citizenship???

  • Can a person from Europe live in america as a citizen too?

i really love america and i would like to stay and live there.

  • very good video, thank u , but ..I have heard that it s possible, but just want to make sure, Can i get citizenship if i go to Us army and work there for few years?!

  • Carl, I recently took oath as a U.S citizen, my son is 15 y.o and is a LPR. Does he automatically become a U.S citizen or is there paperwork I need to file?

  • @alfathomas30 : This question is 8 months old and no answer from Carl. You should thank me thomas for stumbling upon this page. Go to a US postal service with your son, bring your certificate of citizenship and your son's birth certificate and green card. Fill out the application paperwork for a passport for your son. Yes, a passport. This is because he has acquired automatic citizenship from you when you naturalized.....You're very welcome :)

  • Um Um!

  • can someone pls tell me the total cost of becoming a citizenship?

  • $780

  • $ 675

  • Hey folks, I am so excited for the amount and quality of information in here, impressive, i am a Canadian/ Syrian born citizen and over 7 years ago' my brother who is US citizen file for he I130 as US citizen for brother' April 2002. recently INS updated the case status that case transferred to Vermont for processing, Vermont is working on Feb 2001 application @ current and Priority dates are Oct 98 so far, u guys think its another 5-6 years to go??? Any thoughts Plz from experts?

  • @abercrombieToronto : So what is the priority date for his petition for you? If it's 2001, and they're working on Oct 98, that would be another 3 to 5 years...

  • Question: If an LPR leave the US 1 year after having his green card for 2months, can he still qualify to apply for USC?

    Thank you.

  • Question please: Im a LPR since 06 i want to be come a US citizen when i turn 21 on 2010. I want to marry an illegal immigrant. Can i apply for her when im still a LPR?

    Thank you.

  • Yes, but it's a five-year wait. Better to wait until you become a U.S. citizen.

  • My Spanish Filipino grandfather studied in Stanford and UC Berkeley for the Philippine Gov't in 20s to 30s. In 1931, my grandmother went back to the Philippines to give birth to my father and did not want to go back to the US. My grandfather after several years came back to the Philippines to join his family. I was born in Dec 1959, is there a possibility that I can be a US citizen?

  • You can apply for naturalization five years after you received permanent residence, in 2011.

  • Question. Unmarried Mexican male living in USA (currently being petitioned by US Citizen sister by 245-i) wants to marry an unpetitioned-for, totally illegal Mexican girl (having entered USA illegally but with no criminal record). Can SHE be grandfathered into her husband's process to adjust status along with him once USCIS works his case based on his priority date on I-130?

  • Yes, if they marry before he adjusts his status.

  • so its possible for a canadian to become american citzen ??? some one plz anserw

  • If they meet all the requirements that I talk about in the two videos, the answer is "yes".

  • I have a question.

A friend of mine has been a US resident since November 2005 and her daughter got hers in December of 2005. The daughter now wants to go study abroad in India (currently holding Indian citizenship) and she is currently in 8th grade.

How will this effect the daughter's citizenship application when the time comes?

  • As long as she preserves her permanent residence in the U.S., probably not at all.

  • Thanks. This puts my mind at ease because it's the reason I did not apply since 2 yrs ago and did sign yes to everyhing on he form, but my conscience hurts now. My mom was murdered wih 5 bullets in my homeland. I don't plan to ever bear arms. Jesus taught non violence. I really liked your marriage advice. It would have saved me a lot of stress 10 yrs ago. Three attorneys misinformed me, but then I found a good one and it was clockwork after.

  • What about religious reasons for not swearing or bearing arms? Would I be rejected for this?

  • Not at all. You will be eligible to take a special oath.

  • mr shusterman,i have some traffic tickets that i haven't yet payed their not serious violations there speeding and no proof of insurance do i have to go and settle all this before i go and apply for citizenship ?

  • Good idea

  • Yes

  • what if a person get the green card and buisness close after 4 month and never hired him for the job after getting green card

  • The person's green card is definitely at risk.

  • Thanks, Mr. Shusterman! Over the years, I have found your web site to be quite useful and informative. Now, as a permanent resident, I really appreciate your guidance to take the next step. You compassion and care represent the true essence of this country. God bless America!

  • Thank you!
