The reason for the low hp number is that the 4.6 in the GT has a RWHP rating of around 250hp. Either the drivetrain loses 50 hp or the engine really isnt rated at 300hp at the crankshaft.
The loss of the drivetrain was at aprox. 35hp. There is in fact no real gain with the X-Pipe from bassani. I did another run with stock h-pipe and had the same amount of power.
Well either way Ford has some explaining. My turboed Nissan 240SX makes around 340 hp at the crank and around 325 rwhp. 35hp of drivetrain loss is a little excessive. The Mustang needs either more power or needs to weigh less. My hp motivates only about 2600lbs of car. Its probably less than that since I took out the rear seats and stereo.
Well, you can't compare a charged engine and a natural aspirated engine. I don't know the 240SX- is it a rear drive? If not, a front drive has always less loss than a rear drive.
It's rear drive. I am just saying, either the drivetrain is that inefficient or the 4.6L isnt really putting out its rated hp. Darn made in mexico cars....lol
NP. Its rare to see someone actually engage in a conversation as opposed to the almost standard, "Imports suck" or "No replacement for deplacemant" that most say.
Still, 300 hp out of a V-8? Not that good imo. Most V-8's arent that efficient anyway. A 13B rotary with only 1.3 liters and makes 260hp has more hp per liters than a 505 hp LS7. 200hp per liter and 72 hp per liter respectively. A GT has only 65 hp per liter and a GT500 only has 100 hp per liter.
First of all, most of these V8s still have much potential... it's like they run on "economy" mode. That's why an American Engine will still run great after 200,000 miles, while those small, high rpm engines die after about 130,000.
Also, the V8 will likely have more torque at that given hp, so it's still quicker. There's a reason why dragsters use em.
There are also compact class dragsters that still use 4 cylinders. There are many stock Honda's that have engines with mileage well past the 200,000 range. It's all in the maintenance. The problem with most large displacement V-8's is rotating mass. All those large pistons can only move so fast. A v-8 may spin slower, but it's got much heavier parts that will get worn out just from moving all the weight. V-8's have their uses, but are still inefficient. Dont even mention pushrods to me.
If I had to pic a Mustang, it'd be the Roush Mustang with the upgraded rear. If you search for the GT500 test in Top Gear, the Roush stang, with 75 fewer hp, was faster around their course.
You know what? Invest ~3k and you can have the same suspension in the GT500. Roush Mustangs aren't THAT impressive. Granted, the handling is good, but you can buy those parts from them. Also, the Roush still has the live axle.
Thats one of my big issues with Ford. Their whole "live axle" excuse. You're gonna have a Hyundai with a V-6 that has the same power as a Stang V-8 WITH an independant rear and an LSD option. All for the, still not confirmed, price as a Mustang. That and the Mustangs weight. Why not concentrate on weight savings and an upgraded rear and only 400 or 425 hp? A GT500 that weighs 3500 lbs with an independant rear would be a good car. Ford's just to lazy!
really though V8 have a amazing fuel economy and they always a longer time then european cars and having 300 hp and still able to hit 149 miles an hour is pretty badass AMERICA!
Your ricer could never stand a chance against my GT500. There's simply no comparison, and THANK GOD you don't own AMERICAN Muscle. With that mentality, your ricer fits you.
Whats the specs? If its a stock new GT500 then my car is faster. A GT500 can only do 12.4 in the quarter while my 240SX got 12.1 on bad tires.
My car can make do because it weighs over 1000 pounds less than your 4000 lb car. Plus mine will outhandle you car in the twisties because it doesnt have an outdated live axle.
American muscle? Ford is so outsourced it should be MEXICAN muscle.
btw, those of us TUNERS hate ricer civics, do you even know what a 240SX is?
In addition, do you even own a GT500? They really arent that special. A stock Z06 is definantly better. The GT500? Its....mediocre and decent at best.
Whats done to your 240? Most likely its a Stock SR just like every other 240 in this world. I don't have respect for a 240 unless its a fully built SR or an Rb. Since your 240sx seems to be the God car since it's soo great int the corners and at the strip I'd like to see it take on one of these Mustangs. Also I'd like to see your 240 sell for more than $4000. If it's not a S14 SR or Rb Swapped S13 you'll never get more than $4500. I used to have a 240 and like my Mustang Much more.
250rwhp is a little under average for a 3valve. is it an auto? dyno jet or mustang dyno? what are tha outside temps during time of tha pull?

The drivetrain is that inefficient! You can see it on the dyno sheet in the "animals" video.
Thy. for your comments!

Actually, ~250rwhp is normal, it's a loss of about 15%. If you read it up, that's not bad but "standard".

Of course "there are". But there are also people who mount spoilers on their VW Golfs, know what I mean?
I still think V8s are more reliable, and the feeling when you press down the pedal on a 7l compared to a 2l IS quite different.
In the end, I think this is just another "whatever floats your boat" thing. What works for you might not work for someone else.
Btw since you were hitting on the live axle: The FR500C, sporting the live axle in the Koni GrandAm cups seems to be doing well with it.

No, it's just a different style ;)
People love to use Mustangs for drag racing. The Live Axle is better suited for that purpose anyway...
Also, I'd rather have a Mustang which is a bit heavier than one of those little (and I mean the car itself) Jap cars.

Nollco,
The problem with the 05 Mustang was, when it first came out Ford made a mistake with the engine tune.
It was revised mid year and the problem has been rectified.
If you dont believe me all you have to do is call a shop that sells SCT tune & intake.
If you tell them it's an 05 Gt, they will ask you to look on your on board computer for a label; CPH1 or CPH2 so the aftermarket is compatable.
CPH1 computer/tune 243 to 250 RWHP
CPH2 computer/tune 268 to 173 RWHP
CPH2 correct tune
