  • @InfinityOE

That's Kofi Burbridge on flute & keyboards on the Derek Trucks tracks.

If you want to better understand why I put these two musicians together, listen to:

    4:24 - 4:57 and then 6:08 - 6:48 great phrasing and similar musical instincts.

  • From @InfinityOE - Bock to Bock cover... Incredible. Somebody mentioned this so I thought I'd give it a look... And wow. He really captures Wes' style within his own. I love Derek Trucks... One of at least 5 guitarists I consider my "favorite" (Wes being another). A great hard rockin' flute sound... Amazing to say the least. Can anyone enlighten me as to who plays the flute in this? Thanks very much for the upload.

  • @TrucksStop Yes, very similar! Thanks for your help with that. Again, thanks for the upload as well. It's rare to find shows this good on Youtube now.

  • He never comes to California dang it...I guess I'll just have to come to him...Which I am seriously contemplating doing.

  • Amazing! I would never have predicted a pairing of these two. LOVE IT.

  • Huge talent ! Cuts jazz very nicely.

Seen him 3 times and will again next week. He just keeps getting better!

  • where can i find the version my favorite thing of this video in concert? Can you mail the exact date and location of this version?

  • its on archives org, Amsterdam 2005

  • great and improvising I taste a very inusual way to play my favorite things

  • nice post!

when DT played this to open for Santana at MSG it blew my mind

  • drewhouse, i saw em play it in charlotte. it elevated my soul literally. i got a musical high

  • wow derek is continually gaining my amazement

  • These really aren't the most representative Derek Trucks solos. I can think of others that capture the dynamics of his playing . Check out his solo from "For My Brother" on the DTB album "Live at Georgia Theater." His solos in "Ain't Wastin Time No More" on the 2003 ABB Beacon Theater Album are quite literally breath taking.

  • Cody I also happen to love the solos U mentioned, but they require permission. (BTW, Desdamona is my favorite ABB solo by Derek)

Also UR right that Bock to Bock isn't the most representative solo, 1st of all it isn't a slide solo - still I find it stunning what he does with Wes M.'s tune.

Favorite Things, however, is respresentative - U can find 100 versions on the archives. This vers. from Amsterdam was a radio show, great quality, I was there, so I'm not objective - but for me it's magical.

  • Awesome - My Favorite Things & Spain kills!

  • i wish somebody uploaded for my brother...

  • Derek's been playing and recording for well over 15 years now, to say one solo defines him is just silly. All of his work is really great and I appreciate everything DT does for the blues and jazz and sorta bringing it forward, I'm turning 25 and am addicted to slide guitar, ABB, EC, and all the old greats
