I just saw this really good documentary, "Beyond Ipanema: Brazilian Waves in Global Music" (2009), really interesting. You can tell they put some money into the movie so it may actually get around.
They are from portugal , my country by the way!! And they are a band that play electronic, house and kuduro!! This is band WITH portuguese, angolan, cuban and brazilian SINGERS!!
This is not Brazilian balle funk Mr. lonelycubicle! THIS IS KUDURO!!!
ORIGINAL FROM ANGOLA. It doesn't have anything from Brazil... This is an Angolan-Portuguese Band and the style is called KUDURO or KUDURU *(for some that might have issue with pronunciation).
Exactamente compay plenty2say! Honestidad intelectual...
following is how yahoo's babelfish translates from Spanish to English:
Exactly compay plenty2say! Hard ass or Kuduro is 100% Angoleño (African). The Brazilian is already enough to dicer that capoeira and samba are 100% Brazilian. Still, Partner imagines a Castilian says that Rumba, Sauce, Meringue, Bachata is all danced or European musics and that its origin was in San Sebastián, Spain! What madness jejejej! Intellectual honesty
The roots so Samba are Semba(Angolan) Capoeira was created in Brazil by slaves brought from Africa, especially Angola some time after the 16th century.Kudora was created by borrowing from calypso, soca, and electronica. Electronica was in turn started by some African Americans in detroit. So the moral of the story, all this good stuff has it's rootz in Africa or from Africans. Even salsa, rumba, merengue are highly african influenced music. they would no exist without the Africans.
in all fairness they do have Brazilian funk mixed into this set

Thanks for the update. I was just posting the description of their music from the magazine, Time Out New York.

Exactly. There is NOTHING PORTUGESE OR BRAZILIAN about Kuduro. It's 100% African. I'm Hispanic and even I figured that out.
