  • Funny face of the sir. at 4:41

  • one of the scariest scenes of all time. so fuckin dark!

  • where are parts 2, 3, etc?

  • The scene isnt remotely scary its actually comical with a buildup of tension that is lost in the delivery so to speak. There are much more scaryer scenes that are lost on people probably due to their minds not able to accept what they cant bear to realize. The odd behavior of the two old people in the back of the limo comes to mind. The significance of the phrase "drunken kids" and so on.

  • pause it at 4:42

  • Dont be scared thats ganja man hes the jamican bum that lives behind the dumpster

  • I shat myself when I saw this in the theatre.

  • Comment removed

  • I guess this scene would have been scarier if I watched the movie. The build-up was scarier than the actual reveal of the hobo woman, which I thought was comical even.

  • hahahah jared sent me here.. thats brilliant. me and he had a chat about this movie drunk in the savoy

  • It wasn't scary. But I didn't watch the movie. The only thing I thought was 'get to the point!!' :')

  • He's recounting a dream he had, WHILE HE'S STILL IN A DREAM. inception.

  • @chickawhatnow Yes David Lynch came up with inception long before that film was made

  • @secretmiggles Just because inception is a good artisitc film that is mainstream does not mean it rips or is worse then david lynch works. If anytihng inception is based on waking life

  • @poopamultimatepoopy yeh I like inception, my comment was more of a joke than anything, I agree with you

  • @poopamultimatepoopy Man, I love when people think they're gurus about film...

  • @herpderpmonkey I am.

  • @herpderpmonkey Im the school film director see 3 new movies a day and have 100% in film class.

  • @poopamultimatepoopy lol o rly? 3 new movies a day and 100% in film class?? WOWzers. Don't you feel cool! You don't know shit about film if you're comparing inception and waking life.

Other than the general theme of dreaming, what parallels can you draw between the 2 films, o guru of films?

  • @herpderpmonkey I do feel cool. Just because I thought the film compared a few similar concepts does not mean you needed to insult me, or it meant I thought I was a film guru.

  • @poopamultimatepoopy shuuut da fuuuuck up. (what a pretentious little shit geez.) get over yourself, you're not special so stop flattering yourself, retard.

  • @herpderpmonkey You don't know me. And You said I thought I was a film guru because I compared to movies. And you think that a youtube comment defines who I am. Pretentious? LOL

  • @herpderpmonkey Because you think I made an unjust comparison you are saying I flat out said I was some guru hotshot.

  • @herpderpmonkey What is that even supposed to mean.My comment was like 2 weeks ago. I am a film guru. And I want to be a director, Are you taking a shot at me saying you know more?

  • The man behind Winkie's is the self-exiled divine in all of us.

  • @travisnealtodd70 very surreal, your comment touches something deep,

  • Change the title to Mulholland Drive Dream scene, and you won't make this into a contest. You get less dislikes that way.

  • The young man is the Super-ego, the older man is the Ego, and the man behind the alley is the Id.

  • Watched this movie with my family last night and I almost shat bricks at this scene, just had to watch it again to get it out of my head... What is that thing actually? Is it her after she shot herself in the face? And did the guy working at winkies also see it or did the black haired dude just imagine it?

  • @joshpugfan One of the main points is that everyone experiences the same pattern and ends up in the same place. They are all dead. Rather, you must consider what you define as alive, living. Its really myopic to see it as about dreams. Its not, not in the way that most would understand it. It might be one persons dream or rather nightmare of seeing the consequences of a single decision made in haste.

  • He's not a fan of Bob Marley

  • That was the most anticlimactic thing I have seen in a while.... it wasn't scary AT ALL!

  • @MrKennyKRH that means your brain doesn't react like everyone's elses . congrats you're a retard

  • Comment removed

  • @MrMushroom123 Silly you. I understand why you removed your comment

  • @MrKennyKRH actually i can still read my comment. i've deleted, to rewrite it. its still there, at least for me. maybe you should refresh this page.

  • @MrKennyKRH It was meant to be comical like the bumbling hitman. The scaryest elements are missed by apparently ignorance viewers

  • @ordosincorporated *scariest and *ignorant

  • All he wanted, was not to see that face.

    - But that's exactly what he saw.

I know that feeling, where you just need closure. But for most of us, it's just in our imagination. But we need to make sure, and thankfully, nothing is there.

  • Mulholland Drive has some of the scariest/spine tingling scenes ever seen in cinema. I don't care, I'm stating this as a FACT.

  • BRICKS!

  • nico bellick

  • Who is the actor playing the figure?

  • @seansalvador1 It's actually an actress, Bonnie Aarons.

  • @TakeOneLTD

Thought so (i don't call female actors actresses, it's silly in my opinion).

I think that's significant to the plot.

  • @seansalvador1 GW griffith said it well: "Women dont act, they feel". This is mainly due to the fault of directors and how they cast female roles. Is there really such thing as a female role or just a role played by a woman?

  • @ordosincorporated

I do not think the word actress has any place in the English language, 'actor' has no gender. We're English, not French. It's sexist.

  • @seansalvador1 Definition of ACTRESS : a woman who is an actor - Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Actress: a woman who performs on the stage, on television or in films/movies, especially as a profession - Oxford Dictionary.

As long as the word exist in the English language you have no right to say "we're English, not French".

If what you say were true then we wouldn't need the word "she", wouldn't we?

  • Camera guy is getting taller and shorter

  • David Fincher is a rarity. He scares not with gore and forceful tactics such as the exploitation of physically weak characters , but by taking away the very idea of safety from the audience then showing them something horrible that could touch them if it wanted. His style of scare is so much more potent than any other movie I've ever seen and the only thing that comes close is Ringu.

  • @bakariboss David Fincher?

    This is David Lynch, buddy.

Side Note: I'm surprise Studio Canal, hasn't claimmed legal rightx, to take down this spoiler.

  • @bakariboss this is the essence of psychological thriller/horror movies. its hard to find movies like these, nowadays.

  • It's amazing to how close he got to capturing the sounds and sights of real nightmares, mine are almost exactly like described in this scene, some mundane surrounding, weird light, the low rumble, the only difference is that in mine people popping up and scaring me are faceless.

  • @Tentacleed you are such a pussy.

  • @OdddSelenaGomez youre a dumbass who probably didnt understand a word he said

  • @kapillie "youre a dumbass"

I never tire of the irony of people like you saying this and having no idea how ridiculously stupid they are!

    That's "you're" a dumbass, dumbass!

  • THIS MOVIE IS FUCKIN WEIRD AND TERRIFYING

  • I think the guy he is talking to is his psychiatrist or psychologist or something

  • Most scariest? Shouldn't that read: scariest?

  • I've read a really plausible interpretation of this scene...but I think the power of this dream (and all dreams) is that they're more than the sum of their parts. The fact that we can't truly know what "the man" means to Dan *is* the horror.

  • Not scary, don't know what the big deal is, but that guy with the scary face, is cool looking, the makeup is quite well done but it just looks like some dude who lost a fight with a blowtorch . I have herd of this being one of the scariest scenes ever in horror movies, not even close.

  • @salame909 watch carefully . table in the last seconds is between two tables. i mean empty table is not their table.

  • @SultanNify I don't get it? What do you mean?

  • so the man died?? :O

  • I saw this scene for the first time like last month or so, I remember how awful feeling it was, watching this alone from the sofa when they got closer to the place where the hobo showed himself. I really don't get scared in movies if there's some really obvious point when there's going to be some sort of a screamer or whatnot, but this really made me shit my pants.

I have to watch this movie.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who found this scary. I felt my heart racing after this scene first time I saw it.

  • I don't get this part of the movie at ALL. someone explain?

  • @TaffyRaphie Some people say the "Man Behind The Diner" is the angel of death. There's not really any true fact to what it means because the director doesn't want to explain, he wanted to leave it to the audience's imagination. So you can put whatever meaning you want behind it.

  • @TheWildcat131 I don't get it then. It wasn't scary to me, so it was ineffective. I don't get what the two guys in the diner have to do with anything either, not just the man behind the diner

  • Comment removed

  • @TheWildcat131 Ya I've seen a lot of his other movies. Personally, I think this is his worst movie (discounting Dune), but other people seem to like it. That interpretation you gave is not bad though

  • @TaffyRaphie Oh thanks! I really like Dune though. The problem with this movie, to me, was that it got me excited to find out the mystery behind everything. During the movie I thought that maybe the government was after her (or the mafia) or something even more but then it turned into a love story. I think his worst is Inland Empire but that's my opinion. I think his best are Blue Velvet and Eraserhead.

  • @TaffyRaphie these sequence talks about dreams, the indiscernibility of this with real live. Actually is a kind of clue to the spectator. Is the global idea of the film, What is a dream and what is not. ¿Is it a dream, which part is a dream, is this still a dream?.

  • Excellent scene. Is that Spanish subtitles?

  • Thanks for that Jared Followill

  • Anybody else find this funny? or is it just me?...........ok

  • I didn't flinch. Not even one bit. Jared sent me here for nothing...

  • Scaring people: so easy, a caveman can do it.

  • So, could someone explain what the thing is that jumps out? I've obviously not seen the film or anything, just can't get my head around what it is/what the significance is

  • Jared Followill sent me here :)

  • @xxdonnamarie lmao though i was the only one. long live the kings :D

  • @xxdonnamarie who cares. No one knows who jared followill is

  • david lynch, he is a master a building dread...

  • i loved this scene.

recurring dreams are actually the best way to learn lucid dreaming. picking up details to the point, that you are aware, you're in "that place" again.

  • it's barry pepper and he needs a shower

  • Who had the guts to pause the clip at 4:40? I did and I'm paying for it...

  • When I saw this in the movie, I almost had a heart attack.

  • i get so afraid sometimes I think the fear is going to kill me.

  • 4:38

  • Comment removed

  • i expected tht

  • The soundtrack of Mulholland Drive is AWESOME. It makes the movie.

  • The talk gives me chills but the face was mah.

  • sooo... a hobo sticks his heqad out and he faints of fright??

  • Yeah, the clip here on Youtube gives this scene no justice. You're just totally not expecting that in this movie when you watch it for the first time. Definitely one of the most scary movie-watching experiences I've ever had.

  • This is the most terrifying scene I've ever experienced. It may not be much on youtube, but play this movie on a big screen with surround sound and the lights out and you'll see what I mean.

  • fuck that noise.

  • at 3:22 we see that the man who had the dream has a plate of untouched food and a full glass, while the other man's food and drink are gone. is there any significance to that?

  • @demravager It means that the man who had the dream is so disturbed by it he can't it when relating it.

  • i watched this movie while trippin on shrooms.. By far one of the best expieriences of my life!

  • @hotchocolate420 Sound like a guaranteed way for a bad trip, no thx

  • The thing that needles me is wondering if the other guy saw the bum or not. Since the scared guy seizes up at the exact same time, I can't tell if he saw him or not. Granted, it probably wouldn't matter, since this is a Lynch film, but I always still wonder.

  • winkies needs to put out some traps for the dumpster trolls, they getting big man!

  • I wouldn't totally say "Great buildup, terrible pay-off.", but with a buildup this good, I can't imagine a payoff that would do it justice.

  • i LOVE that scene.. it's really scary!

  • can someone please explain this film to me, i cant make head or tails out of it

  • @959chris It's about a nightmare within a dream, if you get what I mean.

  • It's relaxing and terrifying at the same time.

  • man lynch sure knows how to create a disturbing atmosphere

  • great buildup, terrible pay-off.

  • that was really creepy a little bit, not gonna lie, i was a bit tense watching this. Which helps from the awesome music

  • 4:41 the guy who catches him... literally the funniest face in any film. ever.

  • David lynch, Please make more films! Nothing out there comes close to your surreal world.

  • @salame909 the food doesn't disappear,if thats what your assuming, the shot at 2:26 is the table thats behind them.

  • *statement

  • first of all, mulholland drive, brilliant film, in its own unique, eccentric way. Second of all, "most scariest"? redundant statment

  • @salame909 Can you explain what happens to the food? I didn't catch it.

  • WTF

  • my girl friend used to work there

  • it's just a homeless man get over it

  • @gatewaysolo104 That was the point it was just some guy that lives back there.

  • & i'm scared like i can't tell ya

  • This isnt scary at all. Whats this movie?

  • by far one of the most suspensful movie scenes ever shot

  • Comment removed

  • Watching this here, it's meh, watching this in the movie? OH MY GOD, I nearly died.

  • @RyanKaufman same with me!

  • The build up to it is the scary part... when you see it it's like "meh."

  • No embedding? Come on!

  • i thought this scene was scary. I think the build-up to it was the best part.

  • Worst movie I ever saw.

  • Does he die??

  • that wasnt even scary the freakin uneaten breakfast plate was scarier than that

  • I just came on here to read the comments, not watch the video. Because I don't ever want to see that thing again.

  • @gryphon50c

Pussy. This is the least scary thing I've ever seen. Big ass fucking disappointment of a movie.

  • i was scratching my balls during this part and when the face popped up i almost ripped my dick off

  • @mikewazouski1000 HOLYSHIT!!!! that was sooooooooooo funny!!! LOL your comment was fuckin awesome!!! LOL

  • the thing i like about this scene is that the guy doesnt scream like a whiny bitch when that man comes out from behind the wall. this way makes it more realistic

  • @Minyadagniriel

Well, as a matter of fact, I was scratching my balls, too, and my dick remains intact.

  • i totally forgot about this moment in the film. i did see it but i guess my brain put it away...somewhere deep...very insidious-like patrick wilson's character.

  • not scary. faces like that are everywhere in films like lord of the rings

  • @Tommythegato youd have to watch the film as a whole, the scene alone isn't as effective.

  • @AedarkZZ haha alright, it's true i havent seen the film in its entirety so i guess it was premature to say. i'll watch it soon

  • I must have missed something...

  • As creepy as garbage man is, whever i recreate this scene in my mind, I see a monkey. A large gorilla just comes from behind the corner.

  • Ow yeah, when I saw that film first time, I shitted some bricks on this scene

  • Oh, and I forgot: The thing-with-eyes-in-its-hands scene from Pan's Labyrinth is scary. Not this. The US is generally pretty far behind when it comes to creativity, and ahead when it comes to visual effects. But the visual effects (which they miserably failed on in this scene) aren't what counts, right?

  • (Second comment)

Yes, I was told: "We all remember that woark of art of a maasterpees where some guy sees a creepy face he had been dreaming about." I was told so. I was told this was the best scene of the movie. It was. And this scene was fucking -- boring. Tedious and just so cheap. Cheap make up. I don't know how other people view films. Godfather: crap. Mulholland Drive: crap. The Departed: crap. I don't buy into it just because everybody says it's good when it's just tedious and bad.

  • I do not want any replies on how 'awful' and 'terrible' my taste in films is. I watched this film yesterday. It might very well be the most tedious one I've ever watched. It's so boring... I just wanted to turn it off and watch Memento or Lord of the Rings or something, but everyone was blind (in my opinion) enough to say: "This is a troo woark of art. A hipster I will forever be." So I soldiered through. Worst decision of my life! Tedious! This is just a pile of cheap make up. Rip-off.

  • @MagnusRulerHardt

Nobody can say that your taste in films is horrible, people find different things appealing.

  • his (or should i say "her" hehe) friend's replication of his own scared dream face at 2:56 is one of my favorite moments in the movie

  • Most of Lynch's stuff, including Mulholland Drive, is inherently disturbing, and often downright scary. It's dealing with symbolism on a subconscious level. It's showing you images you normally only dream about, and often sound and movement are bizarre and dreamlike. If you're not scared of it at least sometimes, I submit that you're not quite tuning into it. If it were reaching you properly, I think it would scare without question. But to each his own.

  • the shit hobo

  • meh, nothin's going on, scary bg atmospheric music, meh meh meh OMFGWTF AGHJAOFIJWIEF

  • This movie is so complex... I had to watch it like twenty times, and now i have a slight idea of what's going on...

But, i would gladly watch it twenty times more... In fact... Brb!

  • FUCK!!! That scared the SHIT OUT OF ME!!! I have never seen this movie and the way he talked about his dream. . .

  • oh lord xD i swore that was a witch

  • I'd fuck that.

  • I love the other guy's reaction when he sees the thing.

  • hehehe lmfao very funny

  • I find this to be one of the most unsettling scenes I've ever seen.

  • I think I just shit in my pants, so fucking scary, but damn good.

  • this scene scared the shit out of me. very disturbing.

  • i hope that i never see that face....ever.... outside a dream....

  • I don't normally get scared in horror films... in fact I actually laugh in all of them. Saw, The ring, Firday the 13th, Nightmare on elm street, and most of the crap know-a-days just send me bursting in laughter. Yet somehow, I almost had a hard-attack in this scene. First time I've been scared since I was a little kid. Perhaps it was because this film isn't a horror film, and I never expected something like that. After this I tried to give Paranormal Activity 2 another go... laughed again.
