Good stuff, but this is very different from how we uprocked in Queens. You guys kinda remind me of how they used to uprock in the old Oasis Roller Rink in Ridgewood back in the day. Ours uprocking was a little more Ken Swift oriented. Good stuff though....
Yeah, I know who Tiny is, he lives in my neighborhood. He's good friends with someone I hang out with a lot. We were introduced to each other several years ago and chilled for a while.
Love this stuff considering it all started in Brooklyn...my old love. I miss this stuff...wish we could turn back the hands of time ans go back!
Can anyone provide me some music titles to which this form of dance was born unto? I have some...but the more I see these videos, the more I realize that I dont have half of it. Please help anyone...I welcome all!
Thanks for stating that fact! Being from Brooklyn and knowing about the history of Uprocking and growing up around rockers it actually annoys me when people put Bboying in the same category or even worst, call it Bboying. People need to understand that Uprocking and Bboying are two separate dances. As far as I'm concerned, Bboying didn't even exist until Uprockers from Brooklyn started rockin in clubs, especially in Manhattan where they used to bump into Bronx heads. Crooklyn's the borough!
@catch3000 I gotta admit, even tho I don't live in brooklyn. I researched a bit of the dance, and I'm a Bboy. I have respect in rockin man. I believe it helped bboying grow but they are very separate. Respects man!
how long youve been bboying kid, rocking is part of bboying, it came from the roots of top rock kid, indian step and pendeumlum step are what basicaly used in top rock, and in uprock. get yo shit str8 cosuin
@PERROSKI323 - I'm sorry bro, but I don't subscribe to that philosophy. I'll meet you half way by saying that Bboying incorporated Rock style steps into the dance, but if you are implying that Rock came from "TopRock" therefore in turn implying that Top Rock came before Rock, I'm going to have to disagree. My shit is str8 son, came straight from the BK not BX.
@QuoiRoc I'm not even fully certain what you mean. But I'll try by saying.. if we are dancing, no one should be standing around..? maybe? is this right?
@alamocityhunter My point is simple, breakin combines elements of many dances, lindy hop, tap, Africa and Latin. to say that yeah they are different but can vibe with one another. So why say that rocking a dance that came from the same part of New York as bboying can not be combined?
hey tiny, dunno if you remember me from about a month ago bothering you haha. i've been meaning to go to mccarren park but my internship's kept me busy all summer. do you guys still go there throughout the school year? or do you hit up the other public spots that are due to open up soon?
Monday tuesd, wed ,.....from 7 on up on the runing track ....there are a few b-boys and BreakEazy teaching Rock basicks and toprock ,footwork forb-boys ...and if you see me there well asck anything about rocking or poppin, booghie
oh nice. i heard about it from one of my friends this weekend. kind of far for me though. i live by coney island and i think mckarien is like, on the border of queens/brooklyn. i can probably drive out though. what days do you guys meet up? and is it all uprocking or do bboys come through also?
these guy just helped me improve my up rock/ Brooklyn rock. And the guy in the white shirt, Asian guy in the white hat and then the guy in the black hat... ARE SICK
Reminded me of Dave Debuscher (sp)? for a second....
Cool. I'm gonna try to get a few people that I used to throw down with to swing by one Thursday night. I haven't seen Buz in YEARS, I mean YEARS. Need to show him some moves that he just might have forgotten about.... :yup: <smile> ;)
Sorry for late responce SelektaStjarna if you came buy theres lots of people to help.Lots of people became rockers at this place and its all freeeeee for the love of it.
If I were to go there will someone help me learn how to Uprock properly? I realy want to learn this dance and it would be so cool to be taught in this authentic atmoshere! I can see the true original spirit of Uprocking in these guys and it's exactly the type of spirit I want to learn.
This is going on at IS93 66-56 forest ave Ridgewood NYC.Every thursday from 6 to 9 . Free classes Uprock ,B-boying ,popping ,locking .The clip you see is at B-Boy Contender serries ,Mothly Jam in the same place were the OG Rockers came and ghet down .For any one intrested in Rockin (Uprock) history or the dance this is the place

Rock is Rock and Bboying is Bboying.. Rock is not a 'part' of Bboying. TopRock yes, but Rock Dance no.

i would like to see them all 15-20 years ago when they were full of energy and they didn't depend much on $
but btw they make rock dance still live on video, on jams, cyphers and so on, that's why we must respect 'em all
