He is saying that while the bears go for a short swim (as they only swim short distances) in the ocean that the ice they came off at the shore has melted back so much that they can't swim back to shore without getting exhausted. Fact: green-house-gas emissions always rise as temperatures rise. There is no way to prove that the gases came first and then the temperature came. You can however prove that all the temperatures of the planets in the Milky-way are having increases of temperature. What does this mean? The sun is heating up.
The important thing to note is that polar bears are not thermomenters. Whilst their numbers have risen from ~ 5,000 to ~ 20 - 25,000 in recent years - so no danger of extinction, quite the opposite, they are mainly endangered by hunting and by areas of bad weather where parts of the Arctic have been cooling in recent years.
They bring polar bears images and photo ops and probably false data or distorted data just becose it is cute and thus has impacts on the brains we wish to program.

The sea ice at the north pole has bounced back to normal levels. Greenland is in ice mass balance.
The vast mass of Antarctica is cooling. the only bit that is warming is the tiny Antarctic Peninsula (about 2% of the continent). You can sea for yourself on NASA satellite comparison pictures that sea ice now is considerably greater in extent than in say 1980.

The 20 degree swing was 75 million years ago When the the North pole was a Dinosaur infested Swamp and the 8 degrees above currant tempatures was about 100,000 years ago which flooded the lush forest valley known as the "Great Barrier reef with the Mini Ice age being about 970-1100AD bringing us down to todays relatively stable tempatures (+2,-2 swings)

He is saying that while the bears go for a short swim (as they only swim short distances) in the ocean that the ice they came off at the shore has melted back so much that they can't swim back to shore without getting exhausted. Now, back to topic. Polar bears have increased in numbers from 5,000 to 25,000. The Arctic has not shown consistent warming - some places have warmed others have cooled. Arctic sea ice has rebounded to normal levels.
Antarctica has sea ice at its greatest extent since records began. You can see this on NASA satellite pictures.

The important thing to note is that polar bears are not thermomenters. Whilst their numbers have risen from ~ 5,000 to ~ 20 - 25,000 in recent years - so no danger of extinction, quite the opposite, they are mainly endangered by hunting and by areas of bad weather where parts of the Arctic have been cooling in recent years.

The Arctic sea ice has bounced back more or less to normal.

From sept 2006 to 2007 we lost 20% of the northern sea ice cover. Water temp rose aprox 1 F salinity down 14%.
The eskimos in the north see new animals they don't even know how to name them. They swim in Hudson bay. Permafrost is melting and houses move.
In Groenland they say ice melts "very fast", satellites agree.
Groenland means aprox 25 feet of water (Manhattan, Florida etc).
South pole means 200 ft, it IS melting. Glacier speeds already doubled, water under lubricates.

iktus42 - what we mean is that polar bears are not endangered by rising temperatures. During the last 25 - 30 years of warming polar bear numbers have risen from ~5,000 to between 20 - 25,000. They are endangered by hunting, so that is what we should focus our efforts on.
You may (erroneously) believe that 25% of the Arctic is gone. Simply not so. None of the po;ar bear habitats have shrunk, they're doing best where it has been warming and worst where it has been cooling.

2. Even the IPCC models project an effect of warmer milder winters and nights rather than hotter days.

Plankton boom is making making Oceans darker & causing the Oceans to absorb more heat from being darker. The Warmer currents gets to the Poles & not only does it makes the weather more "freaky" with the heat exchange but melts the ice exposing more ocean & extends the reach of Plankton which makes the OCeans darker which makes it asorb more heat..repeat

What a pantload! Since the so-called experts say the polar bears reflect climate change, then here are the facts. 30 years ago the polar bear population was estimated to be between 5,000 and 7,000. Today the population is estimated to be between 27,000 and 29,000.

you are correct man.. ppl dont like to hear it because the media has said differnt. in my college biology class i head to teach about polar bears and global warming. so ive researched the facts too. Also many of the clips shown was filmed in the summer time.

Recycle people don't use hot water alot. Turn the lights of and the computer when you don't need it. Travel more with a bike or your feet. Use public transportation.

Not true. I just looked at the weather station at Alice Springs from 1880 to 2006 and the temperature is no higher now than it was then. Youtube stopped me posting the URL.

Total Meltdown would raise the Seas a total of 20 feet which will cover many sea level & possible below sea level cities,but hardly "Water World". By the Environuts own junk Science "burning 1/2 of world's fosil fuel in 200 years has caused a 2 degree change in tempature,so if we burn the other 1/2 that will be 4 degees below "point of no hope"

TheRealArchAngel - the flaw in your reasoning is that there is not evidence to support 20 degrees or 8 degrees or even more than 1 degree of further warming over the next century. Climate sensitivity to CO2 is logarithmic, so we have soaked up most of the warming that a doubling could cause already. Your alarmism is based on computer models which have failed every predictive test. Observed temperatures have way undershot even the lowest of the IPCC GCMs.

No,no. The 20 degree swing was 75 million years ago When the the North pole was a Dinosaur infested Swamp and the 8 degrees above currant tempatures was about 100,000 years ago which flooded the lush forest valley known as the "Great Barrier reef with the Mini Ice age being about 970-1100AD bringing us down to todays relatively stable tempatures (+2,-2 swings)

Because they were hunted, now they aren't hunted now. The global warming leaves no ice so polar bears drown when they go for long swims and hunting.
