You make some good points here Greg. I do think it is key to get an architect involved if a novice plans to remove a load bearing wall...or a wall they aren't sure is load bearing. Our latest blog post series gives more information about how to determine a load bearing wall and then how to go about removing. Take care.
hey Greg it's me again. So you know, that particular wall is FIRST floor, spans 100", runs parallel to the above floor joists. It has a triple top plate. One above joist set runs directly on top of this wall. The upstairs of my house was originally a stand-up attic. The same wall touches a definite bearing wall, that 2nd one making the top of a "T" if looked at from above. House has a gambrel roof. The whole upstairs is 40' front to back, x 24' side to side. Wall is foyer, 6' in the front door.
Hey Greg, I just wanted to say thank you for the tips so far! FINALLY someone is speaking my language, with THIS vid and the tip on your site about caulking around the exterior plates of a house. I was planning on doing this since I am on a slab and I found (mostly past) termite damage on interior walls of my house. One particular wall got me looking at your Tube videos and website. It's one next to my stairs; Do you have a contact email so that I can ask you some things about it? Thanks a lot!
Loving your videos, I teach Contractors how to Buy & Sell houses, I am looking to promote my video's. Please review my Video's, any help would be greatly appreciated.
