@leonardo1011 Real mats are stupid expensive. $600-1200. The mat they are on is about $150 on Ebay, but you would not want to really spar on those. Only for drilling in my opinion.

This is more a Rubber Guard tutorial, it is a good video though. Bocek was just a far superior grappler, he got the take down, pased to side multiple times and got a mounted triangle, Hazelete was outclassed by a mile, I don't think it was his rubberguard

Always interesting. After 32 years of studying stand-up fighting -- shotokan, boxing, muay thai, and Krav Maga -- I'll have to learn this grappling thing someday. It's a fascinating art. We nullify a lot of jiu jitsu in Krav Maga as far as realistic situations, because there are no rules, but it's a hell of a sport fighting art. And yes, if I am allowed to bash your groin, you can't control me in your guard. We have tried this extensively in Krav. Sorry, it does not work.

@pitbull103 a lot of ppl have jiujitsu wrong. don't look at the sport stuff and confuse it with self defense jiujitsu. In pure bjj ( self defense) ppl don't pull guard. It's not the first go to position. If i end up with my back on the ground , i have no option i have to fight from there. But jiujtisu philosphy is takedwon, pass the guard , mount and finish. Not pull guard.

@GHRepresent I hear you and I respect that. I think where jiu jitsu fails as a pure self defense is that it is not prepared for multiple attackers. You can't be trying to pass the guard while a guy's buddy is kicking you in the head. However, in a "fair" one-on-one fight you are certainly right. Krav Maga is constantly worried about weapons, multiple attackers, and "unfair" situations that threaten your life. Be well.

@pitbull103 Well no shit. This is a sport - not a street fight. By that same logic if someone on the street would arm bar me or try to choke me, I would bite them. Or I would jam my thumb into their eye or fish hook their cheek with my fingers and rip it. This is a SPORT. However knowledge of this martial art would give you a great advantage against an untrained fighter. And I would say 95% of street fighters do not practice martial arts

Also, Eddie Bravo does not claim that jiu jitsu is the ultimate self defense. However, some guys do, and it's just wrong. Small joint manipulations, groin strikes, and head butts make things much more difficult.
