  • Man, you are great

  • God Damn ...!!! You're Amazing ... \m/

  • that wz insane

  • my hat's off to you sir.

  • You think you're so good with your neat little dream theater solo and yer pretty little custom bass... WELL YOU'RE NOT.

but seriously, that's a sick bass and a sicker solo, I'm just bitter

  • that was great! Very brave

  • yo I was planning on getting a stambaugh for college jazz. How much did this bass end up costing?

  • It was under 3-grand, but a lot of that was for the piezo/midi electronics. Chris' basses are a great deal!

  • holy shiiiiiiiiiiit

you are a monster ... keep it up

    cheers from baghdad

  • That's really impressive man, Nice job.

  • that's completely QUALITY! subscribed :)

  • is that last note a pinch harmonic? i love pinches on bass...

  • Absolutely!

  • got any tips on doing pinches?

  • I tend to do them the way Steve Bailey does (check him out if you haven't already!), where you use your right hand index finger to cover the harmonic point and then pick with your middle finger.

  • It's quite a common practice to play the harmonics that way. If you watch "Edgar Cruz - Bohemian Rhapsody (classical guitar)" video, he also does it.

I also use my index finger to cover the harmonic, but I pick with my thumb. Seems easier not to miss the string.

  • nailed it..

  • Thats a bit good that is. Myung would be proud son!

  • fuckin sick

    DO MORE DT PLOX

  • Wow, nice man. =) I've never seen this before.

  • Fantastic job man!

  • You're superb! How long do you practice everyday? I see many of your vids and they are accurate and tone's great!

  • Thanks. Lately I haven't been practicing nearly enough...

  • Wow.

  • 5 star. You are an incredible bass player

  • This just forced me to go learn the solo for forsaken on the bass as well . . . see you next week after constant practice XD.

  • its been a week, how'd that go?

  • After "Constant Motion", and not constant practice :D

  • that is simply amazing

  • Excellent Man! That is 6 Strings Standar tunning? It`s insane the sound of that bass, beautiful. 5 stars for you congratulations!

  • Thanks. Standard tuning (BEADGC)

  • Dude you are insane! That is SO good!

  • mad sweeps!!

  • 5 stars, nough said

  • This is obnoxiously amazing.

    5/5

  • WOW!!!!

  • Nice..... :D

  • Dude that was unbelievable, your finger work is so smooth and comfortable to you, i wish i could play that fluently. Can you give me an exercises to practice?

Also, I just uploaded a cover of this song and would appreciate it if you would look at it for me and give me some feedback, its my first song I tried to learn by ear.

    5/5

    ROCK ON!

  • dude, awesome job.

  • *-*

  • hahahaha thats fucking awesome :D love it

  • That was fucking awesome =-| good job.

  • you're a god!

  • Your sound is so clean and full, and it showcases your musicianship with much satisfaction.

    Well done, sir.

  • Where did you get the tablature of yourself?

  • I don't use tabs. I play bu ear.

  • :))))))))) this is GREAT! so smooth!

  • I love this you're a fantastic player. I have to ask this though: What kidnof strings do you use (or were you using at this time)?

  • Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Rounds. My favorite strings!

  • very good men!!!!!!!!!

  • do you still have this bass?

  • No, I do not.

  • are you sure your nick isn't SBailey?

    hahaha

  • Ha! Yes. It just didn't sound quite right playing that very last note down an octave, so I threw in that little SBailey 'trick' there ;)

  • props

  • omg...Lokire you rock!

  • Beautiful. You have an amazing talent to be proud of. 6 stars, If I could.

  • dude... wow...

  • freaking awesome man, 5 stars =D

  • DAAAAAAAAAMN

    nice!!!

  • oh my god, crazy bass skills

    very nice

  • are you trying to play guitar on bass or is that the real bass segment in the song?

  • Did you miss the part in the video title that says "Guitar Solo On Bass"? ;)

  • Wow, Propilot1012! So you can't actually read dumbass? How in the hell could you miss the title? IT'S THE 1ST THING YOU SEE BEFORE CLICKING ON A VIDEO! DAMN, SOME PEOPLE ARE REALLY STUPID!

  • no i saw Forsaken and the bass guitar in the picture. After that i didnt bother reading the title. and then i guesst he was playing bass for the Eguitar. and i just ask, yeah it was stupid to ask before looking, but i highly dought i am stupid if i am a pilot. andthis is propilot1012 just on my bands account. SO FUCK OFF

  • Whatever I'm just saying can you pay a little more attention next time! Sheesh!

  • Wow, very beautiful.

  • Cover some Death songs from the albums that Steve DiGirgio played in!

  • very nice!

  • The final note... I'm guessing that's an artificial harmonic.

I've been thinking about getting the John Myung signature bass and was just wondering how hard are 6-strings to play from the perspective of someone like me who's been playing only a 4-string for a year.

    Great job on the solo.

    Ryan

  • Yeah, the last note is an artificial harmonic. It's the D right above my highest fretted C :)

It's not really a question that anyone can answer for you. I think the best thing to do would be to go into a music store and play around with a bunch of different 6-string basses. See how you feel about them. Try out ones with different string spacings too. That makes one of the biggest differences in the feel of a 6-string bass. The Myung sigs have very narrow spacing. I prefer it wider myself.

  • Okay, thanks for the advice.

I'll be going to Music Live 2008 at the NEC in November so I'll have a look there :)

  • Very nice, but so far i've only seen solos, not full songs, try that.

  • Well, I have 44 other videos up, most of which are full songs. Try that ;)

  • Ah thanks, stupid of me ;) I'll Check uhm! ;)

  • now Im convinced, you are the best bass player on youtube.

  • Muy buena interpretacion!!!very good!!!

  • Unbelievable man. I couldn't imagine someone would even try petrucci's sweep picking solo on bass, let aside doing it so perfectly.

  • dude....teach me

  • Petrucci and Myung would be proud

  • good playing man! you have a really low action don't you?

i still have to take my bass to the shop to get it fixed, maybe you could take a look at my band. and comment on my bass work or something. Trip Trigger is like my more interesting bass playing.

  • I keep my action fairly low. I like low-tension strings as well. A good setup can make a world of difference!

  • AHA! this is awesome! and guitarists say bass is easy...pshh...i'd like to see them play solos like you on a bass

  • Awesome man! I saw you doing some Wes and figured you were a (very talented) jazz nerd, but now you are just officially cool (y) haha

  • Thanks for the advice, that seems like a far better way of doing it than what I was trying, but it will take me a while to co-ordinate my fingers.

    Keep up the good work!

  • Great work man, that is a beautiful bass as well.

What kind of picking technique for the arpeggios do you use?

I've been trying to learn this solo and Far beyond the sun and I can't get the sweeping motion down accurately enough , but it seems like you've got it nailed.

  • Thanks! I usually pick the lowest string with my thumb, then hammer on the minor 3rd (same string), then pick the 5th with my index finger on the next string, then the octave with my middle finger on the next string, then the minor 3rd with my ring finger on the next string, and then hammer on the 5th on the same string, and then tap the octave on the same string. Then you can pull-off and rake back down the arpeggio with the same finger you tapped with (index or middle for me). Hope that helps

  • Bass is such a good instrument, in sounds a millions times more sexy than guitar. Just so smooth and atmoshperic.

  • AWESOME KEEP IT UP!!!

  • Sweeet man

  • hey dude u r amazing my man! damn that was awesome ...

what type of 6 string r u playing?

any if its possible do u could giv me a tab of that plz? i luv to try n play it myself

    cheers

  • Thanks. The bass was custom made by Chris Stambaugh - check out his website. He does great work! Don't have any tabs for you though, sorry. Just listen closely and you can figure it out :)

  • so fucking awesome

  • u are really good ,

  • mann im struggling so hard on using 3 fingers on bass

  • Don't do 3 2 1 2 3 2 1 2. Instead use the 3 2 1 3 2 1 3 2. You get the same result only you aren't reversing natural motion.

  • yeahh but it sounds more like a gallop

  • Apparently it didn't register my first response to this, so I'll just ask the question without the example. What about a 4 note pattern on one string? How do you plan on handling that?

Personally, I endorse knowing how to do both.

  • I don't...I either do 321321 or 3212132121, or a combination of 2/3 fingers. I don't really think about it anymore, just happens naturally. Different patterns work better for different people. You can do 4-note patterns with 321321, just by placing emphasis on the downbeat with a different finger each time. Takes practice to get it down smoothly, but it works for some people. Steve Bailey does it that way. 3213 2132 1321 3213 and so on. I often do 3212 1321 3212 1321 etc.

  • how long you've played ?

  • About 9 years.

  • lol dude petrucci would be PISSED if myung did that in concert lol!

  • lmao

  • xDxDxDxDxDxDxDHaHaHaHaHaHaHaLMAO

  • This is alsom man! :)

  • Good stuff!

  • that sounds so sweet on the base

    great job

  • :O

    awesome!

  • wow, awesome!

  • Excelent.. Keep playing man!

    Excelente.. Sigue tocando pana!

  • Nice!

  • i love all these guitar solos on bass. what equiptment do u use it sounds good

  • This one is my custom Stambaugh bass. Plugged in direct, so there's no amp involved.

  • i've commented before dude, but again, every time I see it just gets better

  • WOW.

  • dude i cant master that solo on guitar yet, you did it on bass, wtf lol, very nice job, i see some talent there

  • MODAFUCK !!

    great!!

    wonderfull!

  • get yourself a compressor and you'll be sounding real good.

  • I have a compressor. Might have been using it here, I don't remember...

  • man that's pretty fuckin rocking. Where did you learn that from?? was it tab or ear?? Either way it's a challenge and you accomplished it

  • Thanks, I learned it by ear. I try to stay away from tabs :P

  • I don't use tabs myself.

Was just wondering seeing as it's a pretty technical solo

  • omg craaaazy

  • simply epic man...awesome job!

  • you are simply awesome dude...

how long have you been playin'...

i need at least 100 more years for playing that...!!!

    very clean!!

  • Thanks. Been playing about 8-9 years.

  • I have only since 2005... do you have a band, for listen your music, a myspace or something??

  • Not really in a band right now, just doing some freelance work. But you can hear some older stuff at myspace/gregbagleymusic

  • You're pretty good for the amount of time playing. I hope to shoot for a similar result when I'm at that point chronologically. I've been playing for about 6.

  • PERFECT!!!! men, good job!! you're awesome!!!!

    IDOL!!!

  • So So So So sOooo good... damn i need one more string xD

congratulations, i really enjoy your playing, you are excellent

  • Are there frets on that bass? or are they just lines?

  • It's a fretted bass.

  • thx

  • thank you, also how much does this cost

  • It was built by Chris Stambaugh, check out his website. He has some of the best prices on custom basses!

  • that was just amazing man! congrats =)

  • Good job! I liked the arpeggio and the harmonic! Perfect... maybe you need some work on your alternate plucking (if im saying it right...) It's good though! Congratulations!

  • so good but

how much does that bass worths and which brand is it?

Cause im thinking in buying a new one in some time after i buy my sax :)

  • It's a custom made Stambaugh bass. Check out his website for pricing info.

  • hahaha nice job dude

  • Wow. Nice playing!

  • Whoa, great playing!

  • God dude how the hell do you do that, fricken envy you lol.

  • Magic! Actually, I've been working on sweeping at lot lately with my acoustic 6-string bass. It's a lot of fun! :)

  • Yeah. I've seen you a lot since the Metallica forums..and on TalkBass too, and now on here. I've tried to transcribe a few guitar solos on my 5-string but just it always seems that I need the C-String in order to play any solo in the right octave. As far as sweeping goes, I can never do them clean. I'm not exactly sure how to 'mute' the strings I just 'swept', because when I ascend a sweep, like some of the lower strings will ring.

  • Haha, I have been working on this for a while and I play guitar. That was real clean man, good job.

  • DAMN Man xD, awesomee!! :O goood job, i like it very much :P.

  • hey man that was very clean! sweet!

  • I am a six string bass player as well. Not at your level but I wanted to know wheres a good place to look to learn how to sweep, I want to dedicate myself to learning it.

  • There's some good discussion about bass sweeping on the talkbass forums. I'd recommend starting out with 3-string sweeps first. I usually pick the root note with my thumb and then pick the next two strings with Index then Middle. Then hammer on to a higher note on the same string and rake back down with the Index. Or you can use your thumb or fingernail like a pick and sweep like a guitarist would. Try out different ways and see what works best for you.

  • Thanks man.

  • hey man, i have a rogue six string, any advice on how to get the clicking noise to go away when plucking the strings?
