Today I have heard of a story where a man has a meter but can't read it because it is installed underground. I thought the whole point of a meter was that you COULD keep a regular eye on how much water you are using?
Go to Electronic Water Supply Shutoff here on Youtube and see how the shutoff process of a water supply or plumbing system should have been to begin with. This remote activation surpasses the manual shutoff process, and will soon be a common fixture in all homes. Go to my add,call me and purchase one now.
dont most houses have a suutoff valve inside the basement wall area? why go outside to shut off the water? Guess it depends where in this country you live, and whether you have a basement, right?
Thanks. Before seeing this video, I had looked at the meter, but I didn't see any shutoff valve. After the video I was encouraged to dig away dirt around the meter and lo and behold there was the valve. Only thing was, to turn off the water I had to turn the valve clockwise about 180 degrees, not 90 like I expected.
Thank you for this. Had to shut off my water today so I could replace a faucet. Does anyone know if they sell the tool to easily turn it on and off? Or can only water companies use those? Had a hell of a time with how rusted the thing was.
Had my water shut off because of an outstanding balance. Paid in full and couldnt wait for the company to come back the next day to turn it on again (no shower in the morning :( ). Did it myself by following this video. I just have to turn it back off before I call them again to 'restore' service otherwise I'll get a $250 fine for doing it on my own. Thanks for the video.
lol um i wish i could turn off my water HEATER lol it is flooding my room and all valves are off but there are holes in it i cant get to the shut off because floor flooded in inch of water or so and i cant move my washer i dont know how to shut it off :(

Thanks for this video. I could have done without the lengthy introduction, though. =) I had a huge emergency.

@MrAntidepressant
You can purchase a Valve key for turning your water off at most big hardware stores. Check in your local area.

Thanks for the demo, FYI for others, not all valves are quarter turn, you might have to turn yours several rotations until it shuts off.

How do you remove the glass top to see the reading.
The glass is all foggy and it's not possible to read the meter.
The city must be over estimating the reading as they can't see it either, they don't clear it out and don't do anythng.

This was more clear than some how-tos I've seen. I would like to see it done on other types of water mains also.
