  • Hasbro whore

  • @AtomicJimmyMack Hasbro rocks, 4E rocks you idiot.

  • The Realms endeared for so long because they had a familiarity to it. A complexity. It was not an original setting, but it was a living one. What 4E did was reduce these qualities and present a dumbed down fantasy setting for the video game generation. I cannot express my displeasure enough, and will make my voice with the only thing marketers will hear: My wallet. Not a penny will go to the Realms 4E I saw TSR make this kind of mistake with Dragonlance and correct it. I hope history repeats.

  • A poor man's Bane and a pissweak version of Lolth, heroes? I dont think so.

  • @BlackAcebt2 Actually, Bane is the most powerfull evil deity in 4E. Bane enslaved Loviatar, Tiamat, Hruggek, Mablinugyet, Hoar, Abbathor and Szass Tam.

  • Mystra is dead. Savras, Azuth, Khelben , six of seven whores are dead. Hooray! Krehlan BlackstaffArunsun, son of repulsive Khelben was killed. hooray! Tsarra Blackstaff Chaadren, Khelben's heir is dead too.Hooray! Accursed Harpers disbanded at last.Hooray! Thank you so much Wizards of the Coast! Thank you so much Hasbro! Cyric an dshar are my favorite evil deities since the Spellplague, the greatest event in history of Forgotten Realms.

  • The Devs of 4E have killed the gods Mystra, Azuth, Tyr, Helm, Eilistraee, Vhaeraun and Selvetarm (Thanks for destroying all the Drow gods but Lolth, WotC! The Drows really needed to be more generic!). You destroyed the nations of immensely unique nations of Calimshan, Thay, Condath, Halruaa, Dambrath and Luiren. You have erased these pieces of lore with Dragonborn and Genasi out-of-place generic bland shit.

This wasn't an expansion to setting, it was a destruction!

    Afaik 4E never happened!

  • Forgotten Realms has always been the most comical mashup of every single 'high' fantasy trope imaginable, and I guess that's why idiots defend it to their death. If you can name a single original concept that came out of the setting please share it.

I really am tired of people sucking Greenwood off like he came up with the idea of Gandalf or the terribly generic fantasy that is Forgotten Realms.

  • Once you go Old Grey Box you never go back. : )

  • Ah right, so their ploy to open FR up to a wider audence was to kill off all the interesting characters apart from the lavender eyed cash cow?

Jesus, no wonder most fans have dumped FR in favor of Pathfinder.

  • @BlackAcebt2 Yes. In their great wisdom WotC and Hasbro killed all fascist degenerates: Mystra, Azuth, Savras, Khelben, Helm, six of seven whores, Tsarra Blackstaff Chaadren, Krehlan BlackstaffArunsun etc. Finally accursed city of neverwinter was destroyed, repulsive Harpers disbanded, Cyric and Shar are heroes of Forgotten Realms, they caused the spellplague and removed mystrean filth.Hooray! Even Dweomerheart was obliterated, thus souls of Mystra worshipers were destroyed.Hooray!

  • Most of the people commenting on this need to get a fuckin' life.

  • His comments about the setting being too complex for neophytes reminds me of the same logic used for resetting Star Trek. It's nothing more than a lazy man's cop out. It also shows that they don't have much love or respect for the setting if they have to be so drastic.

  • Must be awesome to get paid for being a nerd. Lucky bastards

  • Now that I've actually had time to go over this revised FR, I think was pretty much for the worst and sadly exactly what I expected. Certainly was not the direction I foresaw or hoped the Realms story line progressing. Thanks Chris for helping ruin one of the best campaign setting in D&D history. Also, thanks Wizards for dicking us 3.5 players out of the rest of the source books we we'd all been hoping for in 3.5. At least we did finally get Grand History of the Realms.

  • You've done a good job. The Forgotten Realms was a terrible melting pot of nearly every fantasy trope and myth authors could throw at it - it even had egyptians, native americans, celts, arabians, and so on.

Now it feels a bit more coherent and has a style of its own.

  • oh and how could i forget the oriental mishmash people decided was a good idea!

  • Anyone know of any groups that are devoted to the preservation of the Forgotten Realms? We have a mass group of more than 20 players with 5 DMs every other week. We plan on continuing the Forgotten Realms world evolution old school style. In the talks of opening an online group for it.

  • Personally I just play forgotten realms 3.5 and have the campaign take a turn around the point wizards ruined FR. In other words no huge war in Thay, no spellplague killing gods and Luskan, no 25% of all drow turning good, and so forth. Basically I start the campaign right after Lolth's silence ends. Probably not the exact point FR got ruined but it's a good landmark for when they dug its grave I can tell ya that. But hey to each their own. If you like 4th edition, good for you. Enjoy the game

  • @bombardier07

I agree. That is really what I meant by evolving the world old school. I also favor 3.5. I think it is the most evolved version of what Gygax and Greenwood were reaching for. I was hoping that maybe there was a Forgotten Realms community that worked towards continuing the saga like before... world changes because of PCs which creates new NPCs of importance in the world, etc... It is good to see that someone other than me that preserves what Greenwood was doing.

  • Good work Wizards, you have completely fucked up FR. Everything is now a living breathing sack of shit. How could you destroy the Red Wizards of Thay? How could you destroy Haulrua?

  • damn man! great dressing skills! lol

  • You've really ruined the Realms. I just want to know Chris, Did you do this, To leave your mark on the Realms? Is that all it was?

  • WoTC is wanted for the murder of Forgotten Realms

  • 4E is a multi-planar cataclysm. No D&D campaign world will remain unscathed.

  • This guy is such a dumb idiot, it's a shame for WotC and the whole FR campaign setting will take a lot of damage. There is just no need for these updates, they only want to make money by publishing needles crap! I will certainly ignore these retarded new version!!

  • I don't know, but this new FR has some confusing aspects... hopefully the launch of the campaign setting will clear things up. Anyway, the interview /did/ enlighten me a bit, and it was better to hear stuff from a reliable source instead of the rumours being passed around the fan forums, so thanks.

  • Dragonborn is fucking retarded, please don't put it in forgotten realms :(

  • Too Late... I think they have a whole continent devoted to them. They hurt Forgotten realms Really bad with this new version. REALLY REALLY BAD.

  • Im interested to see how they encourperate the dragonborn race into forgotten relms as well as the eradin I play 4th edition and I admit it some parts are a little too slimed down like the wizards spells but other parts they made it easier to play, like I made a npc something I couldnt ever understand how to do right in 3.5 just because there was a ton of differnt rules you had to do.

  • This is simple marketing. Expand your market through simplification (dumbing it down). It's so the lazy and the kiddies can play. If you ask me, it not only ruins the magic, it forces a mid- to low-magic setting on you. Of course the DM could change whatever s/he likes, but any good DM would like 2nd, 3rd, or 3.5 infinitesimally more than this callous bastardization. Not only will it kill the magic, both literally and figuratively, it kills Faerun.

  • By "more assessable" he means 'dumb it down'.

  • What the hell was that little asshat smirk that he made when he said "our crazy Canadian" about Mr. Greenwood?

This guy reeks of (united states of american)marketing school.

  • I wonder how this affects Mystra's Chosen (Qilue Veladorn, Elminster, etc.)

  • I'm a bit miffed actually. it just seems they've destroyed everything Ed Greenwood has created up until now.The now diminished Elminster no longer seems to give a damn anymore. All but one of the seven sisters (Simbul) is dead as far as I can tell, and even she seems to be in a sort of exile. Even the harpers, perhaps Elminster's biggest legacy, have been disbanded. I can't believe Ed agreed to this...

  • this guy is retard, just watch him speak, he destroys everything!

  • Sorry had a male pms day didnt mean to flame someone.

  • This dude killed Mystra lol He sucks!!! I think they are going crazy with all the deity deaths!!!! The drow pantheon, the dwarves, For God sake Tyr kills Helm????? Yeah right... To get him get a Lawful Good Deity to kill someone like Helm is a freakin' joke!!! Tyr killing him without a trial???? Tyr killing another law abiding deity in a 'Duel'?? Why does he stop Talos from 'Dueling' other greater deities???? lol WHAT A FREAKIN' IDIOT Tool!

  • For me the realms died the day i saw the new "Black Box" in 1993 and all the products that followed.

The old grey FR box i bought in the late eighties was the best RPG product i ever purchased.

  • Thanks to Ed Greenwood and those contributors who "got" the Realms for all of their hard work. I played the Realms as a teen, and have read many of the novels over the years. It's sad to see it all go down the drain with the planned 4e trashing of the Realms. But I guess that's what happens when the wrong people are given power and responsibility.

  • Right cause someone like you could have done so much better!!!!

  • "Right cause someone like you could have done so much better!!!!"

Thanks for the vote of confidence! :) In fact I think I could have. A conference call with Ed Greenwood and other Realms contributors would have been where I started. That step alone would have led to a hell of a lot less stupidity. (see also: killing mystra AGAIN, assorted other dumb deity deaths, exploding kingdoms, etc.)

  • Bend over and grab your ankles kiddies. I feel so sorry for Ed Greenwood. I know he's trying to be positive about all this and help out and not abandon the realms and trying to back wizards but I'm not liking where any of this 4th ed. fiasco is going. "Making it accessible to new player" while it seems sweeping the old under a rug. I'm not afraid of progression. These changes aren't for progress sake though, they're for market sake. That's what throws up a red flag for me.

  • I really don't understand this argument that they are just "cashing in". If it wasn't a big change then yeah, maybe they are, but this is a complete overhaul of the system so it kind of makes your argument stupid.

  • Of course it

s a complete overhaul of the system. Your own argument seems to nullify itself. You I assume believe the old system to be faulty and this new one to be better. I see as them changing not for the better, which could be done, but just for marketing. Making more money good. Making more money just by releasing a bad product but making ppeople believe they can't live without it, bad. That simple enough for you? Change it a little or alot but change it for the better. This isn't it.

  • Well if you assume they aren't trying to make a better product I guess that would be cashing in, but I don't see any reason to assume that. From what I can tell it does do some things I like, and fixes some things in 3.5 that don't feel right to me. I guess we wont know until we play it, and for me it says a lot that you've decided to judge their actions before the product is even available.

  • What a moron. Of course they are cashing in with a big change. If it were a small change then people would shrug their shoulders and keep going, but because it's the apocalyptic "darker" BS that all the emo's and fags like, the old time realms fans are pissed. And rightfully so as they are raping the shit out of the realms.

  • The Time Jump is the provocative part to me.

  • The only quarrel I really have with the peeps behind the desk is the dismissal of Greyhawk. The reason being is because of the importance of the deities in the setting. It seems lately, that the deities in the setting of Forgotten realms has been a joke. I hope they make their role more essential for the cleric and believer players, beyond making prestige classes for them.

  • i laughed pretty hard, rhunadan

  • i dont get it... is that good?

  • I know this has nothing to do with the interview but man is Chris Perkins is HOT...

nothing to it I just wanted to get it off my chest

  • @rhunadan87 If he has a wife or G/F, she is one lucky woman!!

  • only 147 views becasue their marketing sucks. The Forgotten Realms is the greatest fictional world ever created.

  • have a look at warhammer

  • Where's the music from?
