  • Panditji caresses the tabla while playing it. Others (including Zakir Hussain) pound it.

Each Maatra is heard crystal clear. There is no rubbing of the fingers on the instruments, there is only a gentle tapping.

This has been Panditji's style all along - perhaps that is what prodded me to learn this instrument in my childhood - alas, never really learnt it for very long - my eternal regret!

  • The 'real' Legendary TABLA player of India !! Pandit Samta Prasad- the name is enough ! People like him are born once in a millenium !

  • The clarity, well-roundedness, and consistency of his strokes was a marvel to hear. It didn’t seem to matter how quickly he played, one could always hear every single stroke as a distinct entity.Pandit Samta Prasad Ji also known as Gudai Maharaj.

    Dha Tira kita Taka

Simple fragment, yet sounding like a super polished diamond.

  • Wow. For several years I studied with Pandit Shashi Nayak, a disciple of Pandit Samta Prasad, whom he called, "the Great Master". This was the most intense period of my life and to be able to see a high quality video of his playing is remarkable. I can hear my teacher's playing again through this, and the flood of his presence leaves me speechless.

  • whilst listening I found out I have the same style as Pandit Samta Prasad and i'm self taught - what does that mean..?
