  • le zoom H2 peut être la dernière des merdes, on ne s'en appercevrais pas sur cette musique...pardon,.. ce bruit horrible..!!!

  • hey does this have to be connected to a camera to record? cause i just want to bring it to my friends house and record a jam session with no video, will that work? thanks

  • @calebandstef no camera is needed. Simple one button record&stop. Works exellent.

  • @Sabellbu

awesome thanks for the quick reply

btw awesome sweep/taps how long did it take you to learn that?

  • @calebandstef well the "sweeps" are quite awful :).. I never practice any techniques, scales or anything. I'm more of a play with the ear what sounds best, thats how u can be genuinly creative and create ur tone :) imho. I guess I had played guitar for like 4 years by then.

  • @Sabellbu

well for you i guess they sound bad but for me ive only been playing for 2 years so my sweeps arent as good as the ones in your video, but im working on it :)

  • @Sabellbu I have a Zoom H2 recorder myself and I was wondering if you could tell me what settings or any details I should know about that you would recommend for the electric guitar and drums? Please and thankyou =)

PS: And if you know what settings would be good for the piano and concerts, that information would be greatly appreciated also.

  • @modooglio sorry I don't think I can give you that great advice, haven't played around with H2 in a while, nor I a expert :). In general H2 doesn't have too many dramatic settings that u could mess around with. And best way to find the "perfect" spot to place H2 is just by having ur headset on and moving H2 around while having someone to play. From drums u need to have H2 quite low ground, around ur waist prolly. To get enough base in the bass! And not get distortion from the loud cymbals.

  • @modooglio part 2. So now u have H2 low for best bass drum sound and drum balance. Now u can either have the guitar cab right at the H2, like couple inch away, and record surround mode, other side for drums and other for guitar. Or still be on surround but have guitar cab like 1 meter away from H2, straight to it. With the first solution u might have problems with balancing guitar volume, but if u get it working, it will be more tight and "non live", metal style if u wish that. Try both its fast

  • I was wondering if i just can put this thing in the middle of a room and play a song with a whole band at the same time?

  • @flamedudeNL yes, thats what this is made for. Just be careful with the levels from diff instruments, and try to get them from 4 directions (use 4channel surround) for best definition.

  • @ausdrummer11 one on drummers left hand is Paiste 502 (ride and hats are 502 also). Pretty cheap, durable set with universal use sound. Cant remember the other.

  • @Sabellbu

Did you have any problem with your floating system with such a low tuning? Let me guess, that's B standard, isn't it?

  • @Shyuum nope, just experiment with the amount of springs. I use "drop C set" from Skull strings wich is 10-58, cool set :).

  • @Sabellbu

how many springs do you have in the back of your guitar?

  • @Shyuum 4 works for me.

  • @ausdrummer11 true true they sound almost exactly the same. They are both Paiste (hm if i remember correctly) but not same model. Little mistake what we did when buying second crash, sounded good but only at home we realised it sounds same as the old :)...

  • it sounds great dude, but take care of those cymbals! you're gonna break 'em

  • @bubum4n hehe :) those paiste will never break, but yeah couple of sabians have broken, tho they have been lighter. Actually we used broken crash as a china for quite a while^. Drums are ment to be beaten, for better sound.

  • how did you got zoom h2 and where i could found it?

  • @daeva999

Well u can probably find Zoom H2 (or similar pocketrecorder) in most music stores.

I ordered it online. Just go check out any music store and ask for it :).

  • Where's your H2 placed in the room?

  • In drum recording u can see it on the left. 1.5m from bass drum, tom height. Pointing to BD. In guitar recordings its positioned quite close to the cab, just to get the best sound in that situation.

Its a bit wuffy in this clip but thats just how my setup was that day.

  • these ones are definitely paiste 502 hats, arent they?

    sound exactly like mine.

we got that zoom H2 now, next weekend we will see.

  • hehe nice :), yes they are. 1 paiste 502 set actually.

  • is there a reason why the bloody drums is sooo loud compared to guitar and that when having a band jam??? is there a program that i can change the sound levels of drums to make guitars same loudness?? cheers

  • well that is really funny question :)... The bloody drums are so loud compared to guitar in the recording cos the drums really are louder in real life (ofc u can krank the guitar amp louder but :)...) Thats just reality.

H2 ofc cannot seperate the instruments in different tracks, Changing the sound lvl of one sound source in the recorded track would require reeeaaaally complicated program, and i would consider the developer as a genious, So i say its impossible. Solution: Move H2 near G amp.

  • good job stud.you think i could use this gear to record a kareoke session?you make it sound nice and easy, thanks for the advice, keep on rocking

  • Cheers. If you are singing to mic and to speakers u can record it from close range to get deeper and in close sound. Or recording from farther will give you more sound from the room, giving flatter sound. It should work on both cases.

But to actually make it sound real good on the singing wise, u need to have your sound source close enough of the H2 :). There are compressors in H2 wich can help alot in recording singing.

  • i'm gonna try just that.you're a rock star man,be cool.thanx again.

  • That's a great solo man. I'm going to use my H2 as an overhead on my drummer and try to get a descent sound with some other mics.

  • Thx dude :). Hm good idea! H2 picking up the overall sound and then good bassdrum mic on BD. Can actually get decent sounds.

  • thanks alot for the help!

  • nice vid

do you know how the h2 sound would fair for recording at a metal band's rehearsal?

  • Cheers :).

Yeah thats what its really useful for. U can get fairly good recording with full band, but you have to know what to do :). Balance the instruments good and position H2 correctly to them. You have to set the input gain to "low" so h2 wont clip from your drummer (who should be very hard hitting :)!). Mayby play around with the different compressors inside H2. Decreasing your overall volume will help H2 record clear sound.

  • That might be the biggest problem on metal recordings but if you sound good live u can get decent recording with H2 :).

  • You must worship the devil!!

I would stay away if i ever saw you at a gig, or met you on the street, heh. Cool stuff

  • Heh i hear alot that i look fun when i play but didnt know im disciple of the devil :) altho im useing the weeping demon.

I advice you to come closer but with caution :).

    Thx for commenting!

  • hey how can you connect it to a camera?

  • and what the fuck is WWM? : D

  • hm :) that must be the Windows Wmovie Maker^.

  • Please tell me all your setting on zoom h2. i have one but i dont know how i can record drum correctly mp3 or wma, where should i put the h2, what microfones should i use, front rear? and what gain level shoud i put?

  • In the video I explained where i had my H2. And u can see it in the low left corner^^. If 1 drum is not recorded well, you can bring H2 closer to it.

But i think its allways good to have your H2 near floor so it pick ups BD well.

Use front or rear, doesnt matter much. Try both and use best (if you can hear difference).

I had gain set at low, cos drums are loud!

Set gain where it doesnt clip, go overdrive.

  • its kinda like the sound you get in the studio but in the studio everything is tight and perfect

but with the h2 you play the songs through like 4 times? and get the best bits out thats the easy part lol

  • For some styles you can do really good quality with only H2 - styles where the drums don't need to be so punchy.

Can ofc be used to rec all instruments individually.

  • i would recomend placing the file in the mixpad audio editing software it has an eq to change sounds of tracks makes it sound less flat sounds more professional

  • full band drums, bass, vocals, guitarx2 is just amazing!!!!!!!

  • Yeh. H2 can manage full band recording pretty nicely when balanced and positioned right.

  • Great Video! I must get one of these next year.

  • Thx! Yes you must.

  • NO YOU MUST GET ONE NOW!!!! LOL

  • this was a really helpful video. im gettin an H2 within a few days and im glad i saw this video. by the way great musicianship.

  • Im glad i can help somebody! H2 is definetly worth it. More H2 clips will be coming.

    Thanks!

  • Yep, nice clip. Im going to het H2 for christmas present, im so happy, now i can record my drumming with good quality!

  • Thx. Just remember to put mic gain to low and put H2 in right place (point it to BD at relatively low height, is pretty good). Optionally u can use the compressor.

  • man i just got one of these today when u record the drums do u put the recorder 1.5 m away from the drum set or 1.5 m going toward the person

    thnx =)

  • I used Front 90' if i remember correctly but it's not wrong to use Rear 120'. Might even be better.

1,5m away from bass drum, side wich u are recording with (front/rear) pointing to the drums (bass drum) ofc. If you play very softly then you can put it closer.

If for example snare sounds too loud, then move the mic sideways so it takes more toms, less snare.

  • this was a really helpful video. im gettin an H2 within a few days and im glad i saw this video. by the way great musicianship.

  • I did no editing for the audio. I used the compressor 3 built in zoom h2. (actually might have been a lil bit better without).

When recording drums i used Front 90', H2 1,5m away from bass drum, at about weist height (ghost height, 1m?) pointing a lil bit to bass drum.

Hope it helps :). U can also use 120'.
