the thing about guitar center is . they can't play guitar worth shit in alabama. and they dont have any tuning devices only a small $20 amp to tune on thats a piece of shit when they have guitars and crap on the wall. seriously
@TaylorA541 plenty of tuning devices at Guitar Center in Holland Oh. both guitar tuners and chromatic. I prefer the Korg tuners that run between 20 and 30 dollars. the one i use has thru plugs so one can retune in middle of gig, but must admit that tthis feature is not the best and on important gigs a pedal tuner cannot be beat, but good one's cost about $100 . cannot imagine a guitar center that does not offer all of this, but then again have never been to the store in Alabama.
@xkleenexk dude i totally am a guitar center employee. i am also a decent person who can watch stuff like this and laugh. I would also say that if anyone ever has a problem with a guitar center employee they should bring it up in a calm manner with their manager. We here at guitar center are only allowed to do what we love to do with the help and support of musicians. Be it a novice guitarist who can only strum out 2 or 3 cords or one who can melt your face off with their blazing fast solos
this is way off the employees are kind of cool. but they are right about the people who go there and act like retards, i was just there trying out some guitar i was gonna buy and this douche was just showing off all loud so i left to the acoustics and that fag followed me and played all loud over there so i just left the store
@valdivia562 your comment all to true, when shopping at local guitar stores people trying out guitars agree on a key, maybe a song or just a 12 bar blues. in this way the guitars get tried and the store has the feeling of a music store. I do not know why people find it necessary to play louder than the next guy instead of initiating a jam which can be fun. I had the same experience as you, but did not leave. instead i screamed "somebody pick a key" - some left but actual music did ensue.
@verbenco yeah last week me and a friend went to get a some stuff and while we were in the acoustics area we strated playing wish you were here, and this iraq veteran came in and started jamming with us it was actually kind of cool
Oh. Why hello. I work at GC and I'm a nice muthafugga. The only time I..what do they call it"UPSELL" is when the customer wants better or doesn't know about a product that would suit them better. I sell gear that I would buy for myself. I like good shit. Customers like me.
K i am going to get hated on i'm sure. Guitar Center is just like any other retail business out there. How many times have you gone to some random place i.e. wal mart and been treated like shit then go back a couple of weeks later and its better. This vid is funny as shit i must say as a gc drum guy. I am not that great of a drummer myself alot of my customers are better than me and i ask them "hey how did you do that." just cause i work here doesn't mean i am a bad ass. i am still learing. thxs
It all depends on which guitar center you go to. There are 2 near where I live and one of them blows ass. ( shitty selection, dickhead employees, ) but the other one is extremely nice, I go there so often that the employees actually greet me by my name and sort of know me, and are always willing to help out. Now if only they had a policy to get rid of the obnoxious fucks that play the electric kits. . .
I recently went there and I'm never going back. The sales reps are douchebags and they gave me and my friend a hard time. And we went to go buy stuff, not to fuck around like everyone else was doing. It's a fairly new one and they put a local drum shop out of business after 22 years. It's the Wal-Mart of music stores.
Okay first of all, this is funny! Second, guitar center is actually the best priced place to get gear. Everyone wants to shit on there buisness, but when it all comes down to it they will match any price. So, thats what it all comes down to. Im a repair tech at guitar center and im very generous to anybody who has a question about anything.
Guitar Center in Albany, NY is nothing like what is being posted here. The Customer Service is second to none. The employees are very helpful and patient. I've always been treated with respect from the time I walk in the door until the time I leave. If you just take the time to talk to them and not get caught up in your own ego you just might find them very helpful. Go jam someplace else so us consumers can do some business.
Just by your comment it seems that you are a failed musician as well and don't really know what real music and art is about. That's probably why you like being sodomized by GC employess - you love it. You're just a cog in the machine. Do business. Suck on that dollar. Suck it. Then pass it around to all your GC buddies.
@TheDrRamsey Wow you are really perceptive to know what kind of musician is just by his / her making a nice comment. Funny thing is I am also perceptive and I can tell that your life is a financial and social train wreck.
of course you will not admit it and may even try to convince me or others that it is not so. You will be unable to do that as you lack the vocabulary and empathy to convince anyone of anything. You criticized someone for making a nice positive comment. no excuse for that.
@Harmonykat100 I had the same experience not long ago when I went to the Guitar Center here in the KCMO area. I can JAM at home, but I'm dense when it comes to QUALITY BASS AMPS -- even after playing for going on 7 years. WADE answered my questions, let me have the run of the bass section of the store - Gallien Krueger for me, BTW -- and was VERY courteous and respectful of my situation. Maybe it's a regional thing?
Guitar Center sucks. People who work there suck. Soulless sales-people working for comission - willing to screw you over if it means they are gonna be making more money. They don't give a damn about people. They are all failed musicians who are coming to the realizations that they suck, their music sucks, noone gives a damn about their music, they have no talent, and the only way they can feel good about themselves is by screwing over other musicians.
@TheDrRamsey Guess what? I work for guitar center. And we DONT just work for commission. Here's why: If we sell you something you don't need or like, and it gets returned on us, we lose more commission than we would have made had you actually enjoyed the product. So yes, we work for commission, but it is in our best interest to actually care about what the customer wants. So don't be ignorant. You don't even know how hard we work to make sure you get what you want.
OHHHH, and BTW, quite a few of the people at my store are signed musicians. Lee, from BORN OF OSIRIS, works for our store. The merch guy from periphery and BOO work at our store. So, DrRamsey, you have NO idea what you are talking about.
Maybe its me, but when I walk into any of the area Guitar Center stores, I feel like I am prostituting myself, regardless of the location. I prefer a local family run store - better quality instruments, gear, and attitudes.
Guitar Center has always been on my shit list, but they have really gotten horrible. Putting worng pedals in wrong boxes, selling used pedals and saying they are new and they just can't find the box, the list goes on forever. I hope every fucking douchebag in that store burns in hell. Some day (after some planning) i'm going to rob their entire store in the middle of the night. FUCK YOU ALL.
I especially love it when some 15 yr old little wannabe grabs a $3000 Taylor and starts "playing" it with his heavily studded jacket on and then gets mad at me when I politely ask him to remove his jacket so he doesn't scratch the instrument. Go to Sam Ash and see if they'll put up with that kind of shit. At least we let our customers try out guitars on their own. You see, we assume that most people who come in are "respectful" and "considerate" and treat our equipment as if it were their own.
Yeah, us horrible Guitar Center guys...all we do is stand around all day for minimum wages and get to listen to a bunch of no talent little scumbags like you- playing"Smoke On The Water" and "Sweet Child O Mine" for hours on end - all in different keys! Not to mention all the Asians we deal with who seem to know one word: discount! Get a life asshole and a job while you're at it scumbag!
@junkpot17 Oh so you work at guitar center. Well let me tell you something that is all you do, fucking stand around with your heads up your asses when i got shit to do. Don't have all fucking day pricks. And you shouldknow that people who aren't that good are gonna come in and play over and over, you know why? CUZ THEIR NOT THAT GOOD! You put pedals in different boxes, sell used pedals and say their new and you just can't find the box, etc.Do your fucking job and maintain the store.
The comments I have read here are absolutely ridiculous. Guitar Center is a music store. They provide jobs for people who love music and musical instruments. I treat the employees with respect, and am treated as royalty. Everytime I walk in the door, I am greeted with a smile and a handshake, because they are happy to see me! I see some of the low-lifes that shop there, and most of you commenters are probably the #1 cause of retail employee suicides. Learn how to act in a public place. Losers
i try not to ask for things at guitar center instead i look up what i want then go buy it but once i got pretty mad because the cashier wouldnt give me the right packs of picks as the picks was sitting just behind her so i just said forgrt this im leaving.
@KingofPho75 It's not that hard to say "I want those." and point. You never know if that person was just filling in for the actual accessories employee. Show a hint of compassion and say "Hey, sorry for assuming you know all of the 8,000 products you carry here, but could you hand me that pack of picks from behind you?" and then write a letter to the corporate office. Problem solved, picks in hand :)
@DntBeSoStupid no i told they were yellow, dunlop, ultex picks and i pointed at them but i don't think she knew what i meant usually they put the picks in a desinated area but those picks happened to be by the cashier that day.
@fantomlord12 i can't speak for the employees you speak of, but as an ambidextrous guitar player, I have not once been talked down on for playing left handed. they just don't carry more than 7 or 8 LH guitars at a time. Nothing against you, they just don't have them
This is completely untrue. The guys and girls at my local GC are all very helpful, honest, and good people (except for one guy who I think was only temporary). But the majority of the staff that I know are nice. So stop stereotyping them please.
I bought an ibanez for about 200 when it was supposed to be 300 but the guy pricing the stuff screwed up, and i only had 200 bux, so they said "just take it"
Heres why GC is ''not'' bad. I saw a rare Gibson that I wasnt close to be able to buy. It went for $3,000 plus tax maybe $3,300. But I ask & deal with the employee back & forth, back & forth and got it down to $2500 flat, out the door, no tax! A savings of around $800. $3000 was already cheaper than anywhere online for this rare axe so ''Guitar Center sucks?'' I dont think so. Business is business, they got to make profits somehow so give them a break. Just complaint to the manager if ur unhappy
@sjdrumlab I know they use to do this, but now all the employees say they no longer are able to do that. I did nearly the same thing with my ampeg stack.
@Fetcha200 Anywhere but there. $60?! I never paid more than $40-50 for a set up. Anyways's i guess just go to another less well known store or just a local regular guitar joint. They almost always have someone to repair instruments. And if they don't have one in the store, they usually give you the number of one that they know (friend or personal guitar tech.) and can meet you their. Oh and since when have they repaired guitfidles at GC? Every time i go for a set up, they say they dont do em.
I remember getting into a fight with a mongoloid Guitar Center employee who looked like the guy from 300 because he said th President's Day Discount didn't apply to used gear. He finally convinced me to pay full price. then tried to buy some picks from another guy who informed me that the discount infact did apply to used gear. Fuck Guitar Center.
@V3xify Yeah Fuck Guitar Center.. for the fact that one guy didn't know his promotions for one out of 52 weekends. have you ever fucked up your job before?? what?? not even once?? wow man, you must be perfect. wish i had your skills.
Guitar Center is fine if you know what you're looking for, but the employees are annoying douche bags that do anything to get you to buy another expensive piece of equipment. And it's pretty much impossible to walk in there without some 14 year year old emo douchebag playing a crappy B.C Rich plugged into a line 6 at full volume with their unmusical shreds.
@FrancisTheGook Those 14 year old emo douches will at one time in their life BUY that BC Rich and Line 6. Or something a hell of a lot better. get over it and buy some earplugs.
1. Guitar Center is awesome and so are the employees. They're extremely helpful. The manager at our local store helped me with electric guitar shopping before he was manager and he was REAL helpful. He set me up with the right guitar and taught me how to guitar shop. The employees are also real friendly. Me and the drum section got had a nice discussion one trip. 2. This video gives both GC and disabled children bad names, you should be ashamed of yourself for posting it.
@RJiminez51 guitar center guys dont make you buy shit. if you got ripped off its because you're a fucking moron who didnt do research and didnt take advantageof the 30 DAYS YOU HAVE TO TRY OUT A FUCKING GUITAR! IF YOU DONT LIKE IT WITHIN THE 30 DAYS TAKE IT BACK YOU DUMB FUCK!
Agreed, One time I was wandering around the bass section (As usual) and I accidently tripped over a loose cord that some jerk left out after he played on the amp and knocked over a Ibanez and a Lagona. The guy came over to hear the noise I apologized and he said "Oh it's alright!" In the most care free tone you have ever heard.
@redhook4 Laguna, not "Lagona." Wow, not sure how our employees would act about that. But, I dunno, they let me play 4,000 dollar PRS Customs, so, maybe.
1st Guitar Center doesn't sell Violins in store. 2nd they get more complaints from paying customers who want to demo expensive gear they want to buy but cant due to all the kids running around. Bad workers come in any field. I love helping people live there musical dreams! GC well price match ANYTHING. They have a Price Portal for customers in each store that can be used for price matching. If you need gear and want it cheap go to GC. If you're treated poorly please tell a manager.
@PhatLarkin i am not a shill for guitar center nor fan of the store, but if you use a retailer to pick out equipment and then buy somewhere else, soon- no retail stores. it costs money to display inventory, pay rent etc. This has value. If you take advantage of one institution and cheat them out of their just due -eventually there will be no storefronts, only web sites where one can never try out the equipment. congrats on saving a few bucks. sounds like you are more scam artist than musician
Yeah, and if you just buy from retail stores, all the internet stores will magically disappear! Sound logic. And saving several hundred dollars by buying from a high end bass dealer absolutely makes me a scam artist.
@PhatLarkin OK scam artist was a little harsh, but it is still important to respect the business model of the stores you frequent. just saying it is important to look at things from many points of view.probably should not have commented since in my limited experience musicians have respect for their vendors and for each other -- most of my music store experiences have been very pleasant, consideration seems key to maintaining this type of atmosphere hope you can find a store that pleases
Yeah, I've really gotta vouch for the guys at Halsted in Chicago. Those bro's got me a $100 discount on a pedal after some dipshit repair store they sent me to refused to honor warranty.
Since I paid it myself already, they had no obligation to do anything FOR me, but they did it anyway out of being awesome.
Fuck, yes I did. There are couple other generalizations i could make about GC employees but i can't believe i forgot about sales-vet, pothead, employee discount guy. Hell, I wanted to be that guy.
@elysium735 you must have forgotten about the ones who have worked there for years.. as a side job to playing music professionally, who actually enjoy helping people make music! :)
@DntBeSoStupid I was one of those guys when I worked there. Except it was only for 5 months til I moved and I never played professionally on the side :(
This vid is great, I forgot to favorite it way back when. I did now tho :)
It is not just guitar center that is not knowledgeable of their products. I heard a customer ask a clerk at a local guitar store where a certain guitar was made. His answer was "uuuuuuuhhhhhhh, I think maybe Asia?"
They're pretty cool at the one by me. The guy at my Guitar Center carried out each piece of my drum set out to my car by himself in the snow - I think I tipped him for that actually.
Alternatively, I went to one of my local music stores and I saw some 10 year old kid ask if they had any violin books to which the clerk just answered, "No"and went back to his computer. Not "No but here are some places you can find them" or even "No, sorry." Just "No." What an asshole...
@coveredus YOU ARE A FUCKING NITWIT IF YOU GET RIPPED OFF THERE! THEY PRACTICALLY MAKE TO WHERE YOU CANT POSSIBLY GET RIPPED OFF UNLESS YOU'RE A LAZY DUMBFUCK WHO CANT GO BACK TO THE STORE YOU BOUGHT YOUR SHIT FROM WITHIN 30 DAYS.
Anyone in the Chicago area who doesn't feel like their local GC is the best there is has NOT shopped at Arlington Heights. I guarantee good service and a knowledgeable sales staff.
I've been to a GC before, and the salespeople were very helpful and polite. One guy even went for a ladder, climbed to the top of a wall, and let me spend like a half hour playing an ES-335.
And I walked away buying nothing but some lousy picks. I feel like such a bastard.
@Mun0z387 buying online has a downside. if you dont like your purchase you pay for return shipping. give a salesguy some commision and go through him. its not like it costs you anything more.
Here's another case against Guitar Center: without fail, there will always be some fucker who thinks that they are a "metal guitarist with uber shredage abilities", when in fact they are just some obnoxious fuck playing the same pentatonic scale over and over again (or a cover of some shitty "metal" song) as fast as they can on a Jackson, Ibanez, Shecter, or whatever that they don't intend to buy. But I guess that's not really GC's fault.
I didn't have any problems when I bought my guitar...I imagine crappy salespeople work at Guitar Center, but they also work pretty much everywhere else. You are always going to run in to a crappy salesperson somewhere.
Just fyi, every guitar center over here in Texas are SHIT..."Don't touch that we just made a rule that you cannot touch the instruments unless your going to buy them..." >:O ?WTF?
i was at guitar center yesterday and a white dude with a big fro kept playing guitar and looking at me to see if i was looking oh also he was a bad salesman
went to GC once, asked for the price of the fender frontman 25r, the guy wasnt doing anything and he was like go ask someone else' so i ask someone else and hes like hold on. 10 minutes i go back and ask and hes like sorry im a bit busy...THEN i go back to the first guy
the best intentions of helping themselves and their customers to get started playing the music they love and dream of making. It's not the Gc guys' fault that some customers like to ruin it for everyone. Try that shit on for size!
The reason why the rest of you got or get shitty service. Because a good portion of the people that come in there are trying to get something for free, and insist that we have to get it for them, which would be fine, if they would just ask nicely and quit acting like they're Eric Fucking Clapton. We are just some cool dudes who just tried to make it work the customers. Most are appreciativce of that. Some are not, however. Just a reminder, most of the gc guys actually start there with (cont
yes, some customers, a lot actually, are really great people that, when I worked there, anyway, we had a genuine desire to help them find what it is they are looking for. We really want them to get what they need to do what they want to do with their music. What we don't want is to be treated like we own this giant corporation that is out to fuck the american consumer. We get paid minimum wage, you fuckers! You're mad at guitar center? The people who treat the GC guys like shit are (Cont)
and even though they have a "real" job at wal-mart, and they are a super great guitarist who can barely get a gig at open mic night, they simply don't know how to put on a set of fucking strings. I cannot believe it. I can tell you this:
THE GUYS WHO WORK AT guitar center, most of them, get paid less than mcdonalds employees to put up with a tremendous amount of pressure from the corporate guys as well as the insensitive and completely impatient customers. There are, by the way, a lot(cont)
I used to work at guitar center. I got paid practically nothing to work really hard for a bunch of usually unappreciative customers who act as though you actually built or designed or manufactured the items you're selling. They also ask you to discount items that are worth every penny the manufacturer and GC is asking for...by as much as %70 off the regular price. Then, you constantly run into "great" guitarists who act as though they are better than you because they don't work at Gc (cont)
I work at the GC here, and MAN... You have no IDEA how true that is. Old drunk guys and 12 year olds that can't even string thier own guitars come in acting like they're the fucking 'gods of the frets'. Thankfully I'm just the door girl, or it'd drive me INSANE. D-:;
I have question for you. Does the guitar center only hire girls for the "door job." I have never been to a guitar center that does not have a girl at the little booth......at the door.
I'm the old man in the video that brained one of them. Well in my case no blood was spilled but lots of profanity unleashed. At least i got thier attention. I walked out and the they called later to kiss my ass and offer a 30 dollar gift card. Fuck them. I have spent thousands of dollars in that place. Never again. I wont buy off the rack anymore,at one of these corporate music Toystores. If we all learned to excercise a little more patience this stuff wouldnt be so outrageously expensive.
It is funny because its true. GC is full of snotty kids who think its more important to make time for thier buddies to come in and wack on the 5000.00 gibson at full volume than to provide anything that resembles customer service.
dude not to bug you but ive been wanting to know this forever. Are the guitars that these kids are playing the same guitars that end up in my house plugged into amps? lol
i love going to guitar center just to play their guitars

So yes, we work for commission, but it is in our best interest to actually care about what the customer wants. So don't be ignorant. You don't even know how hard we work to make sure you get what you want.
MattPie9090 9 months ago
@TheDrRamsey

I prefer a local family run store - better quality instruments, gear, and attitudes.
evilunixuser1 11 months ago

You see, we assume that most people who come in are "respectful" and "considerate" and treat our equipment as if it were their own.
junkpot17 11 months ago
Yeah, us horrible Guitar Center guys...all we do is stand around all day for minimum wages and get to listen to a bunch of no talent little scumbags like you- playing"Smoke On The Water" and "Sweet Child O Mine" for hours on end - all in different keys! Not to mention all the Asians we deal with who seem to know one word: discount! Get a life asshole and a job while you're at it scumbag!
junkpot17 11 months ago

Losers
DntBeSoStupid 1 year ago
i try not to ask for things at guitar center instead i look up what i want then go buy it but once i got pretty mad because the cashier wouldnt give me the right packs of picks as the picks was sitting just behind her so i just said forgrt this im leaving.
KingofPho75 1 year ago
@KingofPho75 It's not that hard to say "I want those." and point. You never know if that person was just filling in for the actual accessories employee. Show a hint of compassion and say "Hey, sorry for assuming you know all of the 8,000 products you carry here, but could you hand me that pack of picks from behind you?" and then write a letter to the corporate office. Problem solved, picks in hand :)
DntBeSoStupid 1 year ago
@DntBeSoStupid no i told they were yellow, dunlop, ultex picks and i pointed at them but i don't think she knew what i meant usually they put the picks in a desinated area but those picks happened to be by the cashier that day.

2. 1st Guitar Center doesn't sell Violins in store.

Tomcat54 2 years ago
@PhatLarkiN That may be good for some gear, but I would never buy a guitar I haven't played personally.
elysium735 7 months ago
@PhatLarkin i am not a shill for guitar center nor fan of the store, but if you use a retailer to pick out equipment and then buy somewhere else, soon- no retail stores. it costs money to display inventory, pay rent etc. This has value. If you take advantage of one institution and cheat them out of their just due -eventually there will be no storefronts, only web sites where one can never try out the equipment. congrats on saving a few bucks. sounds like you are more scam artist than musician
verbenco 6 months ago
@verbenco -_____-
Yeah, and if you just buy from retail stores, all the internet stores will magically disappear! Sound logic. And saving several hundred dollars by buying from a high end bass dealer absolutely makes me a scam artist.
PhatLarkin 6 months ago
@PhatLarkin OK scam artist was a little harsh, but it is still important to respect the business model of the stores you frequent. just saying it is important to look at things from many points of view.probably should not have commented since in my limited experience musicians have respect for their vendors and for each other -- most of my music store experiences have been very pleasant, consideration seems key to maintaining this type of atmosphere hope you can find a store that pleases
verbenco 6 months ago

Yeah, I've really gotta vouch for the guys at Halsted in Chicago. Those bro's got me a $100 discount on a pedal after some dipshit repair store they sent me to refused to honor warranty.

There are two types of guitar center employees;
