@bobzzz23 They would have been better off planting some really hardy trunking Yuccas. Even the hardiest palm R.hystrix would need winter protection in Iowa.
@bobzzz23 Trachycarpus fortunei should thrive there if you are in zone 8. They are all over the place here. Growing zone here is 8b and many areas of zone 9a as well.
Banana Joe: These look good because it was when they were first planted and have not faced their first winter. I am sure they are compost or mulch after being run through the chipper after facing a sub-zero Zone 4b winter in 2009.
those suckers are totally dead I would bet..yeah they are supposedly hardy to Zero..but not for weeks on end..and Iowa is just that ..Zero for weeks ..or even months on end..
Still have any of those palms alive-love to see that and I would of loved the contract to put them in

They look awesome and I bet that owner must have spent a small fortune on those Trachycarpus. I sure hope he had someone protect them for him.

Yes, but Vancouver is Zone 8a-8b which only gets to about 15F, not -20F as in Iowa. These are probably all toast by now.

I think they are Windmill Palm trees. They are a cold hardy palm tree which can withstand tempertures around zero degrees.
